Middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has flatly denied quotes attributed to him by a U.K. based website, which were picked up by numerous other media outlets. “These are not my words in this interview,” said Golovkin.

“It’s unfortunate that this interview was posted online and considered by many to be Gennady’s quotes, none of which are his statements,” added Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. “We are currently conducting negotiations for Gennady’s next fight and will not be commentating on any speculation about opponents. We understand the extraordinary interest worldwide in Gennady and look forward to making an official announcement at the appropriate time,” concluded Loeffler.

The fabricated quotes had claimed Golovkin as saying Andre Ward turned down an HBO fight with him and also that Ward changed weights in the Olympics to avoid him.
That's wrong. He denied some quotes on UK website claiming Ward ducked him THREE times. Nobody denied Ward said no to HBO once, per

When I first read GGG's response to Ward's unprovoked attack, I remember thinking that GGG's response was way out of character. Now GGG is coming out saying that he didn't make those comments and I believe him.

A GGG/Ward fight will happen but it's not the right time. Ward just came back after being out of the game for almost 2 years. His first fight back got poor ratings. Ward needs to step it up in the next fight and take on someone with a little more luster than Paul Smith. Then they can start thinking about the possibility of a megafight with GGG.

GGG has nothing to be ashamed of and these other boxers slighting him for the level of opposition he's disposed of in short order need to shut up. The kid is fighting 3 to 4 times a year and will fight anyone out there in the division. No one wants to sign the dotted line. That's not GGG's fault, it's Boxings.

Exactly. The lack of cojones in the middleweight division is appalling.

Why doesn't GGG take Lara on at 160? Better options?

I doubt that 3G is avoiding Lara, although he may not like the entertainment value of the matchup.

I hope it happens. It would be the best opponent by a good distance that has gotten in the ring with 3G.

Because Haymon is likely against it. He definitely didn't contact Loefler.

Also, HBO may be against televising Lara after how he fought Canelo.

The notion that Ward would duck a middleweight is preposterous. You would seriously need to have sh*t for brains to believe that.

GGG aint a shit talker...its his team trying to hype him. I dont blame em, Id do the same thing. I get annoyed when his fanboys take it as if it came out if the Bible.

At the very least both camps are doing what I'd expect them to be doing.

I like GGG - he's a classy guy.

Why people listen to all the bullshit from fighters PR people is beyond me - the vast majority is just utter shite.

I agree that Golovkin-Ward will eventually take place. Among other reasons, I believe that GGG wants to cement a historic legacy and the best way to do that is to eventually abandon the talent-poor MW division and pursue the big fights at 168 and (if successful there) eventually 175 as well. Most all of the recent major boxing stars have won titles at multiple weights and that is becoming a prerequisite for greatness these days: Floyd, Pac, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hopkins, Holyfield, Oscar, Trinidad, Marquez, Barrera, Morales, etc, etc, etc.
The sad part is that no matter where GGG goes, he's going to be avoided until he shows some sign of slowing down or vulnerability. That isn't going to happen in the middleweight division. I'm fairly certain that GGG's power will carry up or down with him. It's one of the worst parts about boxing aside from the Boxing Cold War keeping us from seeing the fights that we want to see. The Lineal Middleweight Champion refuses to fight middleweights or even at the MW weight allowance. It's a joke. I'd give Cotto one more defense versus Canelo before stripping the titles from him. He obviously doesn't care about the mystique that this title brings with it or the importance it holds in knowledgeable boxing fans hearts. Give it up and let GGG grab them all. At least if he had ALL of the belts, he could start working on defending it with greater pride and break some records for most successful defenses. GGG is the true lineal champion of the division. It's a joke that these sanctioning bodies don't make the proper demands to clean up these catch weight sagas going on. Start ripping these titles away and you'll find that the belts will be a little more sought after then they currently are.

... and he needs to rely on your word to move up ? So far, two SMWs he was targeting, Junior and Froch, have avoided him.

Junior is a joke.....Froch is semi retired. He moves up and gets q11 win at 168 against anybody and everyone will be demanding GGG vs Ward.

No Ward....Degale....Groves and Dirrells are there.

HE isnt gonna get Cotto or Canelo IMO
