Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
Apparently, you cannot hold other alphabet titles along with the WBO.... Oh, and he didn't pay his $200K sanctioning fee.
Like it was about the title in the first place. Having a win over Manny Pacquiao means much more than any alphabet strap ever will.

He needs the alphabet belts like Boxrec needs another BNOVELIST post.
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
You can hold other titles but not at different weights, he still has the WBA and WBC light middleweight belts, would have had to vacate those to keep the WBO title.Impractical Poster wrote:Apparently, you cannot hold other alphabet titles along with the WBO.... Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
apparently since bradley just won the wbo interim title vs vargas, they immediately
updraded him to WBO world champ, giving him the title back that he *cough* won
from pac. wondering if a unification bout with brook is now in the picture.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
On one hand, kind of stupid since he never got the belt. On the other hand, probably justified since he didn't pay the sanctioning fee. I doubt if Floyd will lose any sleep over it, and will save $200,000.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
With all the news stories I've seen about this, I'm disappointed to have not seen the most obvious question asked: Why did the WBO require a $200k sanctioning fee? Should they really be able to make up whatever # they want just because the fight is particularly profitable? These bastions of integrity are taking their title from the clear #1 in the division and giving it to Bradley because they are greedy and Floyd refused to pay their exorbitant fee. I'm sure the rule about having titles in multiple weight classes would have been conveniently overlooked had they received their $.
Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. stripped of WBO welterweight title
It takes money to run a sanctioning body, pay for belts, inspectors, judges, referees, etc. Normally they take 3% of the purse, up to a maximum of $200k, which is peanuts compared to how much the fight generated.chucktaylor wrote:With all the news stories I've seen about this, I'm disappointed to have not seen the most obvious question asked: Why did the WBO require a $200k sanctioning fee? the promoter pays for the belts, inspectors, judges, commissioners, referees, doctors, everything else, expe wrote:It takes money to run a sanctioning body, pay for belts, inspectors, judges, referees, etc. Normally they take 3% of the purse, up to a maximum of $200k, which is peanuts compared to how much the fight generated.
not the abc's. it takes no money to run a sanctioning body. a minimum wage high school kid could
do it out of his treehouse charging almost no sanctioning fees. the wbo website even looks like
a teenager in a treehouse posted it.
