Help...recording from homechoice

Post by jamesmcdonnell »

Wondered if anyone might give me any help. Wanted to find a way to record the Morales v Pacman fight from sunday morning.

I just signed up to sky by wire, so I get the sky channels via homechoice.

The homechoice box connects to the TV, and there is a second scart socket on the homechoice box. Is there any way to connect up my old video player to record the fight? I tried just running the video and recording as I watched, but it didn't seem to record it?

Any ideas anyone, just wanna be able to watch the fight a second time to analyse it better.

You should be able to connect the video recorder to that second scart socket. If that doesn't work connect the video recorder straight into the one the TV uses and run the TV from a Scart at the back of the Video (or failing that unhook the TV from the box while you're recording).

James - if it's on Sky I can record it onto a DVD using a DVD recorder at home and post it to you Monday if you want. Email on [email protected] with or PM me your address if you want me to do this.

Might have to take you up on that, my video only has one scart socket, so don't think I can record it to video, tried running it straight off the homechoice box, and it didn't seem to pick up a signal.

Going to get a new PC and record onto Hard disk soon, then can record onto DVD from hard disk presumably.

No problem - let me know. I must admit I've been pre-occupied with work recently so I've not looked at Sky's schedules - is the fight live and gratis or PPV or delayed coverage?

A 2nd scart from homechoice box to your VCR will do it ( or scart from VCR to TV possibly )

Use the input select button on your VCR remote - check your VCR monitor - it'll give you various options as you click the input button, such as L1, L2, SAT etc - try recording using each one, and one of them should pick up the homechoice channel you want to record.

Not sure that my VCR has one.

There isn't a button for it anyway, but it might be in the menu somewhere I'll have a look this evening.

The second scart socket definitely gives off the signal, I used to run a wireless box off it onto my second television when I had homechoice.

Presumably then I could just run the coaxial cable from the back of the TV to the VCR, as the TV is receiving the signal from the homechoice box?

I had a second TV in another room. Didn't realise that was such a luxury these days!

Oh right, I thought you meant in the same room.

Had visions of you wearing a spangly jumpsuit, sitting on your exercise bike eating pizza whilst watching a bank of TV's.

Incidentally, when Tom Jones went to visit Elvis at Graceland, this is precisely the sight he saw (not you Elvis) with the addition that when Elvis got bored of a particular channel, he would just shoot the TV rather than turn it over.

When you live with a bird (I dont anymore!) its best to have a second TV so you can banish her to the bedroom to watch Eastenders etc. while you watch sport!

What is it about women that compells them to watch shit soap operas and reality TV? There must be some preprogrammed disposition toward gossip and trivia. Every girl I've been out with has been obsessive to the point of mental illness about 'her tv shows' and woe betide me if i dared suggest that it 'wasn't really that important to watch them,'

I mean, I like Ray Mears Survival program but I don't throw a fornicating huge wobbler if I don't get to see it. The only thing I get my strop on about is boxing, and that's because it's not on often.

Eastender is on 58 times a day, and you can catch it on the omnibus, so what's the fornicating urgency. It's fornicating shite anyway, the writers want shooting.

That should do it, but you would have to tune your video to your homechoice box. Might sound thick but assuming the homechoice box is just like a sky box, you should be able able to connect the vcr just the same.

That is exactly what I do! Eastenders, Corination Street, Holby city, etc. The only shows I go out of my way to watch (that are not sport) are Lost and Rome, both of which have finished now anyway.

James, a DVD recorded on a DVD recorder does not play in all DVD players, so if Dan records it for you, the faffing about may not be over.

No man knows! :o

Seems they like to stand around being pretty and crap even if there really smart and kick arse so I can't figure it out.

Must be some hormone in their head that likes this crap.

Parrrrtay!

Most people here miss that Brookside and they even made a setting from brookside in museum about Liverpool here! :o
Lost
I can't seem to get into these shows like Lost and The Sopranos, I prefer watching cartoons to be honest. :TU:

I've got a PC DVD player as well, so should be ok.

All this cunting around is annoying me, need to see if my Video lets me record from a set top box or not, it's only a 35 quid Daewoo job so not sure.

James, messing about with computers, tvs etc. does my swede in as well. I've got no patience with anything like that!! Anyway, I use DVD+RW dvd to record onto if this helps. No idea what this means mind - there's more types of DVDs than boing governing bodies!

I'm fairly computer literate, I'm just not familiar with recording from sky.

Eventually I'll get something to record straight to DVD.

Just confuse matters even more and change the subject yet again, what exactly is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R? :o
