Mayfield claims to have beat down Khan,Pac

Post by Badhusker »

In an attempt to secure the big money fight, Karim Mayfield is saying he battered both Khan and Pac in sparring. He claims he put it on Khan so bad every time sparring Khan Hunter had to stop it. He didn't go into details with Pac, other than saying he "whooped him" in sparring.

Hype it up! I look forward to Khan's and Pac's response to his claim...

Got a feeling he's trying to get under Virgil Hunters skin.
Not a big fan of when fighters talk about sparring publicly.

Looked good but one round of sparring from several years ago doesn't really tell us much. Sparring is sparring, fighting is fighting, if he's so good then why did he lose to Dulorme and Taylor?

I think his latest 2 losses show he is fading. His win vs Herrera was impressive, considering many thought Herrera beat Danny G.

34 or 35 is the age most smaller guys seem to start sliding. SRL was shot at 34, for example.

Mayfield also claims Porter refused to fight him even though Mayfield only had one day notice. Not sure when that was.

It was when Porter fought Bone on the PBC show.

Not arguing with that one bit.
I just said he looked impressive. I will also say he looked better there than he does in his actual fights.
It is just sparring and even the worst boxers have looked good doing so on occasion.

How many times have we heard about these guys whipping this guy and that guy in sparring?

I don't care if you out-sparred Khan, Pac, Floyd and Rigo in an afternoon, it means nothing unless you do it in the ring, and Mayfield doesn't seem to be able to, surprisingly.

Boxers like your Khan's and Pac's are at varying levels of fitness at different points in camp too, I don't put too much stock in sparring stories. Spadafora-Mayweather anyone?

Spaddy whupped Floyd's anus in their sparring session. Stop saying simple stuff like "Sparring doesn't matter" or "don't put too much stock into sparring stories" because sparring means a lot especially when the sessions get heated.

If sparring truly meant nothing then why is it that Larry Holmes was able to figure out Ali and beat him rather easily?? And please don't come with that mess about Ali being past his better days when we have guys who are still boxing long after he retired.

I have to say simple stuff so science teachers like you can easily understand my words.

I'm surprised I have to point this out to a boxing aficionado such as yourself but no-one is recording sparring sessions. It matters who wins when the lights are turned on.

I'd rather be the guy who wins when it matters than the bloke who is 19-2-1 who retires without a title and a million sparring stories. :TU:

Perhaps you're new to the sport, but I've heard these tales hundreds of times.

Agree with SNG.

If sparring mattered then Ola Alofabi would be a P4P king.

Also some boxers go harder than others in spars.

Headgears and heavy gloves make a huge difference.
Also in sparring the fighters are at different weight and aren't always in peak condition.

Yet Spadafora spent several years in prison, never beat a big name opponent and probably made 1/100 of what Mayweather has in his career. If they actually fought for real it wouldn't even be worth discussing the outcome.

Because Ali hadn't boxed for 2 years, was nearly 40, was only fighting for the money and was in the early stages of Parkinsons FFS. He was a shell of the fighter that he once was, any decent heavyweight in history would have beaten him that night, nothing to do with sparring.

This is it.

Taking the Mayweather-Spadafora example, Spadafora said in interviews he was a week out from fighting and Mayweather wasn't in camp, stuff like that matters.

Excuses, excuses. Hopkins is 50 and still fighting, where is your proof that Ali had the early stages of Parkinson's?? How can you prove that Spaddy vs Floyd would've been a whitewash in Mayweather's favor if they had an official bout??

You have nothing more than speculation, nothing!!
