Wladimir Klitschko's best undefeated opponent win?

Post by Freedom2013 »

Klitschko has taken a lot of "0"s over the years, the most in heavyweight history.

What was his best?

Povetkin I would say. Especially the way he's looking now.

You can really see the sad state of heavyweight division when you look at that pathetic list of undefeated heavyweight fighters at one time

Povetkin seems to be getting better and better. The second best heavy on the planet in my opinion, so that win is improving with time.

Would like to see Pulev more active so we can judge how good that win really was.

Wladimir cheated to a ridiculous level against Povetkin.

He doesn't deserve full credit for that win. He disgraced himself that night.

It was a disgraceful performance. But he did what the ref allowed him to get away with.
I blame the ref for that performance more than Wlad.
I would love to see a rematch with a very strict ref.

Best win would be Povetkin as he was rated the highest and had beaten the best

Toughest fight would be Ibragimov, who actually had better tools than Povetkin, but quit the game after the loss.

I agree. Ibragimov is the most underrated win in Wlad's resume in my opinion. He had all the tools besides size - excellent speed, good power in both hands, good skills, very high IQ, exscellent stamina and decent chin and was southpaw in addition. He also was very good amateur. He was Olympic silver medalist, losing only to the arguably best amateur boxer of all time Felix Savon 21:13 in the finals. The only blemish in his record was the draw with Ray Austin. And though I scored that fight 114:112 for Ibragimov, I thought he looked bad, and the reason of that was his awful physical shape in that fight. But you can find comparably bad performances in others fighters' careers too - Povetkin looked bad too against cruiser Marco Huck and against awful D-level fighter Nicolay Firtha for example.

Of course, Povetkin now has much deeper resume than Ibragimov, but I think Sultan was more talented of the two. More versatile, faster and smater fighter. Just compare their fights against Klitschko and Javier Mora.

Povetkin was the strongest opponent listed there but as you said the manner of the win tarnishes it.

Pulev was the best win for me. Not quite as strong as Povetkin but a bloody good foghter defeated in a fight without the cuddling

Povetkin...though the wins over Chagaev*, Ibragimov and Pulev are very solid wins IMO.

*The way Wlad was robbed of the WBA title in regards to that fight still pisses me off!

Povetkin was the best win on paper, but Pulev was the most exciting.

According to BoxRec, Sultan Ibragimov was Wladimir Klitschko's best victory over an undefeated opponent.

For the record, Dr Steelhammer belmished the professional records of the following twelve undefeated fighters:
• Bryant Jennings
• Kubrat Pulev
• Alexander Povetkin
• Francesco Pianeta
• Mariusz Wach
• Ruslan Chagaev
• Sultan Ibragimov
• Calvin Brock
• Samuel Peter
• Eliseo Castillo
• Zoran Vujecic

What would the strict ref do when Povetkin lunges in constantly ending up with his head in leads armpit? Watch the fight again and count how many times povetkin comes in and causes the clinch. Most boxers need room to throw punches. Its not a wrestling match.
Sorry, I don't like all the clinching either, but the way I look at it a lot of the clinches were initiated by Povetkin. I hate watching guys like him and Porter.

Sam Peter

At the time Wlad's recent performances were not impressive by any standard and he had been proven to have a glass-chin. He had been dropped in 3 of his last 6 fights and stopped in two of them.
Peter was unbeaten, a big puncher and supposed to be the next big thing.
At the time of this fight NOBODY would have been surprised if Wlad suffered another stoppage loss.

In the ring Wlad turned in the best performance of his career at that point. He didn't tire himself out and didn't get recklessly aggressive after landing big punches which left him with the energy to pick himself up off the canvas three times.
His boxing performance was enough to comfortably overcome a 10-7 and a 10-8 round to win a clear unanimous decision and position himself to start collecting belts.

From the list of 12 unbeaten records he erased there are certainly better boxers than Peter as well as few "carefully chosen" unbeaten opponents but after a string of mediocre performances and two bad losses this was the performance that got Wlad's career back on track which makes it his best derailment of an unbeaten opponent.

Alexander Povetkin was by far the best undefeated Heavyweight he beat...

But Kubrat Pulev was his best win....

He reestablished his KO power and total dominance of the division... Wladimir was noted for the big right hand not the crushing left hook... That was the best hooking job he'd done since the Ray Austin fight... But he knocked Austin cold with 4 or 5 flush and very short left hooks in succession... For Pulev he took big spectacular cuts and demolished his man.

So from a spectator standpoint.... Pulev was his best win over an undefeated foe.

He also beat every Olympian he fought, I think it was around 8, UNTIL he fought Joshua.
