Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Cracking match-up.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Great news. Credit to Hearn for making the fight. Will it be PPV though? I honestly wouldn't be surprised!
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Not seen much of Whyte, obviously a lot has been made of his amatuer win over Joshua and thats why they are fighting, but they were both complete novices at the time. He does appear to have talent but i'm not sure if this fight has come to soon for him, perhaps he could have done with a bit more experience first?Stuarty30 wrote:Great news. What do others make of Whyte, and how do you rate his chances.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Am I the only one that thinks this match up is rubbish?
Whyte has done bugger all as a pro. Why does this no mark get so much hype?

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
This just shows the level that they think Whyte is and I'd have to agree. He's not beating Joshua probably another early night before 6 rounds if not 2 again, showing Whyte that whatever happens in amateur fights don't mean shi.t in the pro game!

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
The one I've wanted to see for some while....far better to judge Joshua when he faces a big guy closer to his own age, nationality and who is also undefeated. A good domestic tear-up, with some pressure there from a game, fired-up opponent and with the Lonsdale on the line is exactly what is in order for AJ. Glad the fight seems in the bank.

Undefeated against chumps. It means nothing.Bodyshot3 wrote:The one I've wanted to see for some while....far better to judge Joshua when he faces a big guy closer to his own age, nationality and who is also undefeated.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Whyte looks a good prospect but hasn't really been tested himself yet. As you already said the AJ fight might be a bit too soon for him but he's powerful, game and confident. I fancy AJ to get the win but this is a very dangerous fight for him. Whyte is young, hungry and on the way up. A lot will be made of Whytes amateur win but I wouldn't take much notice of that tbh.ALI wrote:Not seen much of Whyte, obviously a lot has been made of his amatuer win over Joshua and thats why they are fighting, but they were both complete novices at the time. Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Whyte is on the card for the "Rumble on the Humber" on the 2nd Aug, so we will get a chance to see him box on Sky, and they can build up the hype as well. Should be good to watch.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
No mark is harsh but I tend to agree with the initial part of your post. It's got a good backstory to it but Whyte hasn't beat anyone yet. I suspect those in the US who aren't aware of the am stuff will be saying 'crap fight' etcHorse wrote:Am I the only one that thinks this match up is rubbish?

Shows how some people think when only a few days ago you had people saying Molina/Thompson/Browne would be pointless fights for Joshua yet more than a few are saying Whyte is a great match up.
I'd have preferred this one a bit further down the line, assuming Whyte climbs the ladder. I suspect Whyte's bank manager would have advised he waited too! Still, he'll be getting decent money I suppose but it's worth noting Eddie won't be putting Joshua in with someone who can genuinely beat him just yet. I'm not too sure there are many who could genuinely beat him.

I think joshua will ko whyte in about 4 rounds.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Nor he did anything special in amateurs. Hes claim to fame lies on his win over Joshua million years ago and gym rumors, none of which means much. Yes he beat AJ when that laced gloves almost the first time, entirely inconsequential today. As for gym rumors, you remember how Johnson was such a danger for Joshua and how that ended.Horse wrote:Am I the only one that thinks this match up is rubbish?

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
If he was to climb the ladder he would have done it already. Hes record is atrocious even compared to Joshuas. I am a bit tired of hearing about this guy each time Joshua is discussed, when he is doing nothing to warrant it. So there is his chance and let see what he is about.lillywhite14 wrote: I'd have preferred this one a bit further down the line, assuming Whyte climbs the ladder. It's just another story they'll use to stoke up the hype further.Tarkus wrote:Nor he did anything special in amateurs. You can hear Eddie now after the fight "let's not forget this guy haz a win over Anthony in the amateurs, he weren't no mug and we've just a number on him"...etc
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Agreed however at least he will fight on sky and get exposure.Tarkus wrote:Nor he did anything special in amateurs. Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
I personally have been a big critic of Joshuas opposition but its a British title shot against a young hungry opponent who will give his all. If Joshua blows him away then so be it but its got a decent story behind it and gives Joshua the opportunity to fight for a British title. Who else would you like to see him fight for the British?
Theres lots of notice too so theres no excuse for the best Whyte not to be in there on the night but the question remains to be answered about how good the best Whyte actually is.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
its an ok fight for the British title, tend to agree with Horse though Whytes fought nobody of note its no where near the super fight they'll hype it up to be. I'm just glad Ringside's not on anymore so I can avoid the cringeworthy hype from Sky.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
If he doesn't fight Whyte now, there will always be some down the line who will claim Joshua ducked his only challenger at domestic level.
We all criticise Khan for not fighting Thaxton or Murray who were his domestic challengers. Maybe if he had, and they fought their hearts out and actually put him under pressure, he may have learnt a lot more about himself and may not have been been cleaned out by Prescott or Garcia. Controlled aggression from a domestic challenger may prepare him better for stepping up a level.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
Definitely agree its a good stepping stone to whats next for AJ (but not the super fight some will build it as). Thats what shocked me with it being so late in the year to be honest. OK AJ might have another fight in between but it'll be a pointless keep busy knock over job. Seems a while to be treading water at that stage of his career.freddydoesdallas wrote:If he doesn't fight Whyte now, there will always be some down the line who will claim Joshua ducked his only challenger at domestic level.

He was out on a two year ban and isn't signed with one of the big promoters. But the feedback form the Klitschkos' camps, where he's spent a lot of time as a sparring partner, has been good.
Physically he's strong, looks to have a huge reach for his height and also seems to have a real fighters mentality too.
I don't think most are saying he's a big threat to Joshua, but at this stage he's more interesting to me than anyone else at British level.
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
If this is in December as Hearn as said then looks like PPV in September and December, hope Eddie gets stacking
Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
I'm looking forward to this one, I agree with comments above that Whyte on paper shouldnt be too much trouble for Joshua.
However Joshua is going in against his first real live opponent who will actually be looking for a win.

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
If a British title fight between two prospects both with less than 15 fights who've fought 2 or 3 fighters with winning records between them, is pay per view then we are all doomed!tony1234 wrote:If this is in December as Hearn as said then looks like PPV in September and December, hope Eddie gets stacking

Re: Joshua Vs Whyte
It's a good fight and doesn't deserve any criticism whatsoever. It's not a mega fight though. You've got to think that this will be a part of some bigger PPV card. Perhaps Froch farewell against GGG or DeGale?
More likely Brook v someone like Collazo with Kevin Mitchell getting stopped by whoever is lightweight champ at the time and maybe to really 'stack' the card we'll see Martin Murray v Yusuf Mack and Scott Quigg in a domestic 'World' title fight against Gavin McDonell.
Anyway, I digress, it's a good fight and I'm looking forward to it.
