Name the worst decision you have seen.

Post by Expug »

Sorry if this has been posted before . I would like to hear some posters opinions of the worst they have seen. Fenech - Nelson 1 is fresh in my mind from fairly recent years.

yup Good choice for a bout from recent times.
I always thought Norton - Ali was ordinary by any standard, Was Ken Norton the unluckiest heavyweight of all time??
I think to add to the thread you could also include the most incomprehensible judging scores as well.
Some scores are just blatantly wrong. Solomon Vs Winky Wright is an example two judges have it close and the third had it wright by 12 rounds.

I remember also my Idol Lionel Rose got an interesting score against Alan Rudkin. One Judge gave all 15 rounds the the champ even though he was getting killed in the last round.

Anyway thats my 10 cents worth

Augustus-Burton - Everybody was on EA's back, even the ref!
Lucas-Beyer - I remember seeing that fight, was a disgrace
Dorin-Spadafora - Dorin mauled the Pittsburgh kid from 1 to 12

Whitaker v Ramirez 1 and Foreman v Briggs were both horrible decisions that even the winner, at least Briggs, couldnt believe.

Coetzee vs Snipes - Worst decision in History. Snipes gets floored twice and fights for survivial in the first 7 rounds. Then Snipes is announced the winner? The most bullshit decision Ive ever seen.

Robin Reid vs. Sven Ottke. Reid lost a unanimous 12 round decision. The ref warned Reid for everything, even jabs. When Reid decked Ottke with a clean punch it was ruled a slip and then Reid had a point deducted for some stupid reason. Bab bad bad decision. Reid got so frustrated with the ref warning him he stopped thowing punches because he was worried !!!

Reid clearly won the fight.

Watch the fight and it will reveal how awful the decision was.
You say Walcott vs Louis was a robbery but not this one? Well i can see your point, Walcott couldnt even finish old Joe Louis and was put out of his misery in the rematch - the same Walcott who was iced by ABE SIMON!

louis was not that old. he had recentley knocked out billy conn and tami mauriello. walcott beat a very good joe louis in that first fight. not a prime, but a very good joe louis.

walcott KO 12 coetzee

jersey joe forgot more about boxing skill than gerrie coetzee will ever know.

yes im sure the walcott of 1947 was the same walcott who SEVEN years earlier lost to abe simon

put out of his misery in the rematch?

im guessing u hadvnt seen the fight. walcott knocked louis down AGAIN and outboxed him the whole fight until louis showed how good he was and finished off a peak walcott.

:o :o looked OK to me.
Shannon Briggs vs Foreman was pretty bad. I watched it in a pizzeria and didn't stay for the decision as it was late and George had won clearly anyway. Guess my surprise the next day when I found out they gave it to Briggs.
Si-Hun Park vs Roy Jones has to be one of the worst.

No. He is quite right. Gerrie was robbed blind in that fight.

yes it was a bad decision, but it was not the worst decision of all time like he said.

if everyone were too dig down deep and find the worst decision of all time, it would probably be a fight we never even seen before.

as for a "world class" fight,

the worst could very well be lewis-holyfield I or whitaker-chavez

These two are far from being the worse. Some would argue that those two decision were accurate or close to it. Immediatly after whitaker-Chavez, I was convinced Whitaker won the fight. When i tallied up my score i had it a draw. It seems to my eyes at least Whitaker must have one one his 6 rounds alot more convincinly than Chavez won his. It still added up to a draw no matter how many times i've watched it again. I did think Lewis one the first fight but not by enough to call it one of the worst decisions. In fact i though Holyfield won the second fight more convincingly than Lewis won the first. That in my opinion was a worse decision.
The first Walcott vs Louis fight ,Toney vs Tiberi and Zarete vs Pintor are my picks for the worst decisions for a proffesional fight ever.

thank you for mentioning pintor zarate.

two judges scored it for pintor while the other judge had it 145-133 zarate! talk about difference in scoring.

I believe this was the fight that gave birth to the phrase "we wuz robbed".
Anyway this decision seemed like poetic justice since Schmeling stole the first fight from Sharkey with his flop job.
