It's the beginning if the end for fast Eddie interms of being a top International Promoter

Post by Manchester Hitman »

Before I get savaged I'm not saying he is going to be finished completely as he has the security of sky but Degale going to Haymon must have hit him like a lighhening bolt.

Big Al is making a run for the top UK fighters having acquired Frampton, Khan & Degale. how long before he comes calling for Brook?
Eddie appears to be struggling to get Rios over can he get any big names to come to the uk to face him????

& God help Eddie if Joshua can get a US visa....

I heard a whisper on another forum about Selby leaving for goodness sake.

I can see matchroom as a kind of feeder for talent and Haymon coming in swooping in for the best of the bunch.

Sad really but Fast Eddie dispite his boasts of going to promote in America is completley irrelevant outside of Essex....I could say I told you so to some guys on here but why bother

I don't know much about Al Haymon, but can one guy keep control of so many of the world's top boxers? Where is the money coming from and how can he manage/promote so many fighter's efficiently.

Intuitively I wonder if this bubble will burst spectacularly

It isn't good for Hearn but Haymon won't be around forever, I'd be surprised if he still had the sort of control he has now in 5 years time. Eddie himself won't be around forever either, at some point Barry will retire and he'll step in to run the darts, snooker and everything else Matchroom have interests in.

Poor Ed, it must be devastating, to put in all those years of work building up James from a young prospect into an eventual world champ only too see him run off with Al.

This is about the time for Eddie to sit down and start writing his own lawsuit against Al.

Good I'm glad he's left Eddie, big ED has nicked enough boxers from the other British promoters, let's hope he loses a few more.

Matchroom are not in trouble. Pretty much the only marketable Brits that they haven't got are Fury, Eubank Jr, Khan and Frampton. Whyte will inevitably join the stable too. Hearn works with Sauerlands to get their fighters onto the UK shows, and it has to be remembered that AH is an adviser not a promoter. So he can (and probably does) work with Hearn anyway.

Fr4nk W4rr3n has done the right thing in incorporating his Queensberry Promotions into B0xN4t10n, but none of his fighters will ever get the profile they need. It is W4rr3n who is bricking it. Not Eddie

It would be interesting to hear Eddies view on this - I am sure that "Koogie" will pose the question next time IFL give him a grilling (sorry, just continuing with the sarcasm theme ! .....).

:o What? Was that a joke? Is PBC an advisory show or something. Al might let Eddie co-promote DeGale if he wants him to fight in the UK. But let not get it twisted, James is doing whatever Al says from now on and Eddie is only getting scraps from Als table.

This is true, but given the money Haymon throws around, I'm sure those 'scraps' will be enough to keep the financially minded Hearn content.

I'd bet the end game for Haymon is for PBC to become a UFC style organisation with its own PBC titles etc. I'd also bet thats the real reason Mayweather plans to vacate his titles and wouldnt be surprised at all to see him pop up in September with the first PBC belt.

That maybe true, but I doubt Eddie would be content with the role of a mere facade for Al's busyness, like those Goosens and Warriors and others are doing. He wont go to war for DeGale but if Al continues encroaching into Eddies kingdom we might see tensions rise.

Good point......according to Boxing News Al's backers are an investment outfit called Waddell & Reid Inc and they've got over 400M USD to work with which would explain why Hamon can have who he wants and when he wants them right now.

Waddell and Reid are also named as co-defendants in the lawsuits...so Oscar and Bob are clearly trying to hit the backers as well.

I think certain US lawyers must get into their new Bentley convertibles each morning and thank the Lord for boxing!

Where this leaves Eddie and his ambitions is going to be interesting - he and Barry must be sitting on a decent war-chest themselves with the snooker and darts money they've made - but will they be prepared to put even nmore money into the boxing arm of their empire to lock Haymon out of poaching any more of their fighters?

Barry still looks and sounds like the boss of the wider business, and whilst he genuinely seems to love boxing, he's been pretty candid in the past about how much he thinks can be made from the sport and how much is right to put in. He's as experienced and sharp as they come.

My guess in that they'll defnitely see AJ as worth the investment and that the Hearns will be on more than friendly terms with Top Rank and GBP at the moment as well.

Great point and that's exactly what I think about Haymon's organisation, the UFC comparison came into my head.

 Then expect Barry and Eddie to get very interested in badminton! PPV naturally.....

....."this is an absolutely huge grudge match between little Zoe and the Malaysian girl. The shuttlecocks will be flying and we've already sold out Barking Leisure Centre. Massive international undercard as well."

On a more serious note; the backing Haymon has from Waddell & Reid appears to be game changing financial clout. Just about every top-line international promoter will be looking over their shoulder and not just the Hearns. People like the Sauerlands will be concerned as well.

Arum and GBP seem to have similar-ish suits by looks of it.....a restriction of trade action and the contention that a monopoly is being created.

That accusation often works well in free-market America where they are very hot on anything that smacks of anti-competition but the onus will be on Arum and GBP to prove this.

You can't blame fighters for signing with him because of the huge money he's paying but it will come back to haunt them if he puts every other promoter out of business as he'll be able to pay them bobbins then.

Co=promoting with who? Haymon isn't a promoter. If he's going to fight in the UK, then he needs a promoter here to work with. Hearn might be that man. If DeGale has a promotional contract with Hearn, then he'll either need to fight for Hearn or find a way to get out of it IF he doesn't want Hearn promoting him.

Haymon is a promoter in every sense but for what's on the paperwork, he organises the shows, makes the fights, sorts out TV and all the promotion, then they put DiBella, Goossen or Warriors Boxing on the poster.
