Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
In light of the other thread, I just wanted a straight up answer to the following 2 questions:
Had both Oscar and JMM been WWs at the same time, do you believe JMM would've beaten DLH?
Or the same for JMM vs Cotto, would he have beaten Miguel??
Thanks for your responses.

I'd say no.
JMM looks good at welter but his prime was easily at the lower weights.
DLH to slick for him
Cotto to strong.

I could call DLH many things but I'd never consider him as being "slick". Oscar got hit a lot and has never been known for his defense, if a smaller fighter like Forbes could bust him up and a small fighter like Valero could blacken both of DLH's eyes then I'm certain that JMM (who hits harder than both of them) would've been able to inflict more damage on Oscar.
Cotto was bullied around the ring by Manny and we all know that JMM is stronger than him, keep in mind we're talking at WW here, not Jr MW or MW.
I think JMM would've been able to do well vs both of them and having the punching power to possibly put either of them to sleep or at least on the canvas would've been in his favor moreso than them fighting guys like Forbes or Valero.

Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
Marquez wouldn't have had much success against the bigger, stronger, quicker DLH.
Oscar's fight against Forbes is cherry-picking. Oscar was near the end of the line at that time and hadn't fought in a year.
I have no clue, KBB, who Valero is. Is he a phantom fighter who never appeared on Oscar's ring log. A sparring session foe, perhaps. Detail how he blackened DLH's eyes and where it occured.

I do agree with your point but damn dude, not to sound like an a-hole, but how can you not know who Valero is and speak as though you've been following boxing through most of Oscar's career...makes it sound like you're just looking at boxrec records and making up talking points...SenorPipino wrote:Marquez wouldn't have had much success against the bigger, stronger, quicker DLH.

With that said, great match ups...I think both outwork Marquez...dude just doesnt throw enough.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
It isn't so much a question of who Valero is as what he's doing in this conversation.

You're referring to the lightweight, the late Edwin Valero? I'll plead ignorance on this one.demon1 wrote:I do agree with your point but damn dude, not to sound like an a-hole, but how can you not know who Valero is and speak as though you've been following boxing through most of Oscar's career...makes it sound like you're just looking at boxrec records and making up talking points...SenorPipino wrote:Marquez wouldn't have had much success against the bigger, stronger, quicker DLH.

When did they fight and who won? Was it on PPV?
Apparently the L.A. media never mentioned this bout whenever it took place so I must have missed it. Sounds like a true dream matchup.

Well one would've thought that it was obvious why he was in the conversation but allow me to sort it out for the laymen here;squiggy wrote:It isn't so much a question of who Valero is as what he's doing in this conversation.
JMM is a fighter that arose from a lower weight class, Forbes was in a lower weight class and he busted up Oscar pretty badly in their fight and Valero was used as DLH's sparring partner to prepare him for the fight with Manny and he's from a lower weight class also but he was kicked out of Oscar's Camp for beating up Oscar so badly that he blackened both of DLH's eyes before his fight with Manny that everyone gave Packy sooooooo much credit for winning though both Forbes and Valero had made Oscar look worse.

I would've thought that this was old and well known news to those who are real boxing fans and not just fans of Pacquiao who came on the scene after Manny went on a tear and then over-hyped his win over Oscar as though it was something special.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
It's old and well known news that sparring stories mean precious little. Little one-armed Joe Blow beat up Muhammad Ali and Jesus on the same night in training camp, who cares.

Oscar beats JMM at WW any day

JMM wouldn't do well against DLH at 147. At best he'd win four rounds in my opinion.

Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
In his welterweight prime, I think Oscar De La Hoya would have beaten JMM very convincingly. I also think he would have beaten Cotto, Pacquiao and probably Floyd Mayweather too.
JMM vs Cotto at welterweight is a much trickier proposition - JMM is certainly the better boxer, but Cotto the bigger, stronger guy. I narrowly favour Cotto in this matchup, which is no disgrace to JMM because he isn't a natural welterweight and didn't enter the division until he was in his mid 30s.

Oscar all the way. Too tall, too quick, too tough and too skilful.
Unless we are talking about a past it Oscar, then this would be a fight with everything stacked against Marquez, who is not a true welterweight.
Oscar stood and traded blows with a Prime shane Mosley, I don't see what Marquez could have done to bother him.

I was basically talking about the same Oscar that Manny faced. I laugh when people say sparring means nothing, obviously i can tell when people never been in the ring before.
There's no way that JMM wouldn't have had a chance if both the smaller Forbes and Valero were successful.

Firstly he didn't fight Forbes at welter it was a catchweight of 150 I think.KBB wrote:I was basically talking about the same Oscar that Manny faced. I laugh when people say sparring means nothing, obviously i can tell when people never been in the ring before.

This fight happened in 2008 when he was over the hill.
A prime welter De La Hoya was in 1998. A prime De la Hoya welter beats a prime Marquez Welter.
Also sparring doesn't count. There are loads of different type of sparring. For all we now De La Hoya was trying new things out with Valero.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
Oscar hit like a middleweight with that left hook when he was young, really hard to see Marquez being competitive throughout much less winning. Size and power gap probably prove the difference. JMM could have success if he backed Oscar up because Oscar couldn't fight well backing up but that wouldn't happen much.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
First I don't need a history lesson of when it happened and what weight it happened at because I know, focus on the fact that I clearly mentioned I was speaking about "THE SAME OSCAR THAT MANNY FACED" please pay attention and try to focus on that. I know a prime Oscar would've demolished JMM.PredatorHayds wrote:Firstly he didn't fight Forbes at welter it was a catchweight of 150 I think.KBB wrote:I was basically talking about the same Oscar that Manny faced. Like it matters what weight he and Forbes fought at, if anything the weight still favored Oscar but moreso than that what does that have to do with the fact that he busted DLH up??

He bust De La Hoya up??????
You must of been watching a different fight. De la Hoya nearly boxed him to a shutout.
So you should rephrase the question to would Marquez beat a 10 years past his prime De La Hoya.

No unless this was the drained DLH that fought Pacquiao. I can't see Cotto standing up to that left hook and Marquez is simply too small.

I have no doubt the DLH that fought Quartey, Chavez and Trinidad would've stopped Forbes and beaten JMM and Cotto.

Then what did it mean when Morales beat the poo out of Floyd in sparring, or when Peterson and Spadafora gave him trouble?
They're just sparring stories...nothing more unless you were there. Mayweather Spadafora was the only one on video.

Then why didn't you say that it the subject title? DLH at welter is general. He spent a lot of his prime at welter. It's clear you're trying to change it to meet your own agenda.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
You asked and here's the answer; what it means is that Floyd learned that he would have major problems with a SP so that is exactly why his dad never wanted him in the ring with one, Spaddy would've taxed that a$$ had they fought back then.IKSRTFO wrote:The what did it mean when Morales beat the poo out of Floyd in sparring, or when Peterson and Spadafora gave him trouble?

Peterson stood up to Floyd very easily and gave him many troubles, to which Mayweather admitted himself, I think both guys would've given him hell or a loss had they fought in an official bout.
Re: Do anyone think JMM would've beaten DLH??
I'm not sure what "agenda" you are speaking about but you're right, I should've put that in the title line.IKSRTFO wrote:Then why didn't you say that it the subject title? DLH at welter is general. He spent a lot of his prime at welter. It's clear you're trying to change it to meet your own agenda.
I have no agenda though, I was just asking how one thinks JMM would've done vs DLH during that time.
