Santa Cruz vs Mares

Post by diddy »

August 29 at Staples Center.

I got Santa Cruz here. I think Mares is becoming shopworn. Santa Cruz loses when he fights someone who can really box and move like Lomo or Rigo but I dont see Mares beating him.

Odds are -110 aside.

Thoughts?

Mares has fought the far superior competition. This is a very large step up for Santa Cruz, whether Mares is shopworn or not.

I'm not ready to make a choice yet.

I'm ready to make a pick and not even going to hesitate. I got Mares winning this fight clearly and possibly by stoppage. I think Cruz is one of the most overrated fighters out there. Cruz just doesn't show me anything special other than his work rate and decent chin (which I think his chin is kind of untested). Cruz is just shit to watch IMO, there's nothing less inspiring to me in boxing than watching a limited skilled guy with no power throw a bunch of punches against a bunch of no hopers who have no idea how to capitalize on his many, many flaws.

Mares is the guy to beat Cruz and he's going to expose him badly... I also think Mares is a bit shopworn, but I really think Cruz has been in with that limited of competition that Mares is still a good level above him.

Agree with the guy above me.

Mares by KO Santa Cruz overrated and Mares underrated now after his Gonzalez KO.

I think it will be a exciting fight.

I agree people love to toss away fighters after loses. Mares is a better and bigger fighter who has Santa Cruz beat?

Mares by a mile. I don't think Mares is all that shopworn and he's certainly proved himself, unlike Santa Cruz. It's an excellent match-up imo.

Mares gets knocked out in this one IMO. Mares defense is swiss cheese lately and he's been shaken by some sketchy opposition since his untimely first round KO loss. I think that it's a step up in class for both guys but Santa Cruz is better suited to handle the upgrade in competition. He's got a solid chin, better work rate and defense.

LSC is really big at the weight iirc, & if Mares has not recovered his pre-Gonzalez form he'll struggle here. But he's so much more naturally talented than Cruz, faster hands, sharper boxer, better defence (in his pomp, during that mini-bantamweight tourney he was in)... LSC is a worker though, & like I said I think he'll be much the bigger guy on the night.

It's a hard one to pick, simply 'cos Mares has looked like dogshit since losing & Santa Cruz has been wrapped in cotton wool.

I'll be tuning in.

Not sure - If Mares wouldn't have been KO'd like he was he would be the logical pick. SC has the workrate to wear Mares down. Good fight.

No one will probably watch this now, even if free because of the low, low, bargain price of $49.95 for the chance to see Mosley vs Mayorga II on PPV the same night!!!
