Froch retires
Froch retires
Seems official now, with Matchroom and Sky Sports announcing it. I wonder if Degale signing with Haymon had anything to do with it.

Re: Froch retires
HOF career didn't duck anyone great wins, Ward was only loss that I witnessed and didn't disgrace himself in that fight. Kessler fight I saw and thought could either way, anyways great fighter took on everyone. Glad he is quitting as he is definitely in decline as we all do as we age.
Re: Froch retires
I hope it is true. Going out winning a war in a sold out stadium works. Going out on top and foregoing further physical damage is excellent.

Re: Froch retires
Well timed exit. Did himself proud.
Re: Froch retires
Sad news. A true warrior. A real life Rocky.
He will be missed. But glad he is moving on with his senses intact.
Honestly I think he realized in his advanced age that there was nowhere to go but down. A fight vs Golovkin would've put a lot of wear and tear on him. More than he already has. And I don't think he had it in him any more to try to go at young athletic guys like Ward, Andre Dirrell, DeGale anymore. Something tells me he's been in gym and feels like he's lost a step. And losing a step off of what was already a guy built solely on blood and guts can only lead to bad things.
Much respect to the Cobra. The definition of a boxing overachiever.

Re: Froch retires
Smart move. Like others have said i really don't think the Golovkin fight would have been smart, especially with his period of inactivity. I think he would have lost that fight and feel that he has achieved everything possible. The last round of the Taylor fight will allways remain one of my fondest memories of boxing.
Re: Froch retires
damn, i was hoping for Degale fight at Wembley
Re: Froch retires
Hugely overrated. Never even number 1 in his own division. Best win was probably an old shopworn Kessler, who along with Calzaghe, rank above Froch historically. Had the chance to finish his career in a true super fight vs Golovkin but the man known for not ducking anyone refuses the mega vegas fight & payday and finishes his career off the back of a double header vs........ George Groves.
Re: Froch retires
Maybe a tactical move.
Not sure for how long he's going to stay retired....
Carl craves the limelight.
In 6 months time, he might just announce a comeback.

Re: Froch retires
So Froch calls out GGG on Twitter and then retires like a pussy. I've liked Froch his whole career but really pulled a dick move to wrap up his career. Pretty sad.

Re: Froch retires
That is clearly a lie - you clearly don't like Froch because he is British - you have a serious issue with British fighters it seems.caldo2025 wrote:So Froch calls out GGG on Twitter and then retires like a pussy. It's his career - if he chooses to retire, then so be it.
You have zero idea what might be going on behind the scenes - it may be that Froch realises that he's not going to get the fight he wants for various political reasons - and so chooses to retire.
I had chosen to ignore your posts, but I can't sit there and just ignore your bollox any longer.
Re: Froch retires
Froch is just a drama queen who couldn't dare not be in the headlines. Keep ignoring my posts and keep living in that dream world where British boxers rule the world and everyone drinks tea all day and ignore dentists. Good riddance to you and your boy Froch.jamesmcdonnell wrote:That is clearly a lie - you clearly don't like Froch because he is British - you have a serious issue with British fighters it seems.caldo2025 wrote:So Froch calls out GGG on Twitter and then retires like a pussy. I'm not going anywhere mate. Who said British boxers rule the world - Andre Ward is clearly the best 168 lb fighter in the division - what's your point?caldo2025 wrote:Froch is just a drama queen who couldn't dare not be in the headlines. I don't give two shits about a fighter's nationality mate - the whole reason I prefer boxing over other sports like football, is I don't like the partisan aspect of such sports.
I have no loyalty to fighters based on them being from my home country.
I drink coffee - I don't like tea.
I spend about 1000 pounds a year keeping my teeth in good nick, I'm 44 and haven't got a single filling.
You really are an ignorant little prick aren't you? Has Froch screwed your mum - if not, I hope he does, and jizzes up her anus.

The guy had been in some hard fights and if he even lost 5% off where he was, you can't justify putting yourself through a bout against a guy like GGG.
He acheived what he did through heart, determination and a granite chin. When you're getting on and you're on the slide that leads to beatings and your granite chin only keeps you on your feet taking more punishment than you should.
Re: Froch retires
People often talk about the Groves rematch as if the first 7 rounds were spectacular like the finish, but I don't see how it was close to being a war and for the most part I thought it was an unspectacular fight.Tanzio wrote:I hope it is true. A good way to go out for sure though, and something Froch can continually remind us of.
Re: Froch retires
I'm surprised there are Brits who dont support Froch will all their hearts. The guy fought with his balls. He was ALL heart. He's also one of the better British boxers of all time.
Re: Froch retires
I think some are turned off by his demeanor, though most of those people will probably have a lot of respect for him as a fighter.
Re: Froch retires
... and fight "new and improved" Junior in Vegas. No tough fights like Golovkin or Ward.crow wrote:Maybe a tactical move.

True Warrior. Challenged himself the way we would hope a great fighter would, a great example for fighters to come.

Sad but glad.
It was time to call it, but he'll be missed as a fighter.

Re: Froch retires
The thing is though diddy, Carl is a confident man who talks himself up saying he's going to do this and do that and much more often than not he has delivered but for some reason over on this side of the Atlantic a lot of people don't like that. They seem to prefer the "well I'm just happy to be here and hope to put on a good show" type of sportsman/woman, like for instance the English media have been going mad about the England Ladies football team reaching the semi finals saying how good it is even though the simple fact is - they lost - and they celebrate that yet if we get a brilliant but utterly cutthroat winner we play down their achievements.diddy wrote:I'm surprised there are Brits who dont support Froch will all their hearts. Re: Froch retires
He dodged Adonis Stevenson for over a year as his mandatory ibf before Stevenson gave up trying to get the fight with froch and moved up to face Dawson at LH , takes a bit off his warrior image imo

Re: Froch retires
You are exactly the type of Brit my ignorance is aimed at and you proved it with that classy statement above. Mother jokes were funny in the USA back in 1985 so I can see you guys are still right on pace, 30 years behind us in everything. You really are an ignorant little prick aren't you? Has Froch screwed your mum - if not, I hope he does, and jizzes up her anus.
I'm also 44 so we've both watched the same era of boxing and could probably have a more healthy debate about boxers but you got a little dark with the visual that didn't go well with my coffee so i'm out. Look, I was a huge fan of Austin Powers. He was the greatest thing that ever came out of England, at least I can admit that.
