HOF career didn't duck anyone great wins, Ward was only loss that I witnessed and didn't disgrace himself in that fight. Kessler fight I saw and thought could either way, anyways great fighter took on everyone. Glad he is quitting as he is definitely in decline as we all do as we age.

Honestly I think he realized in his advanced age that there was nowhere to go but down. A fight vs Golovkin would've put a lot of wear and tear on him. More than he already has. And I don't think he had it in him any more to try to go at young athletic guys like Ward, Andre Dirrell, DeGale anymore. Something tells me he's been in gym and feels like he's lost a step. And losing a step off of what was already a guy built solely on blood and guts can only lead to bad things.

Smart move. Like others have said i really don't think the Golovkin fight would have been smart, especially with his period of inactivity. I think he would have lost that fight and feel that he has achieved everything possible. The last round of the Taylor fight will allways remain one of my fondest memories of boxing.

Hugely overrated. Never even number 1 in his own division. Best win was probably an old shopworn Kessler, who along with Calzaghe, rank above Froch historically. Had the chance to finish his career in a true super fight vs Golovkin but the man known for not ducking anyone refuses the mega vegas fight & payday and finishes his career off the back of a double header vs........ George Groves.

The guy had been in some hard fights and if he even lost 5% off where he was, you can't justify putting yourself through a bout against a guy like GGG.
He acheived what he did through heart, determination and a granite chin. When you're getting on and you're on the slide that leads to beatings and your granite chin only keeps you on your feet taking more punishment than you should.

People often talk about the Groves rematch as if the first 7 rounds were spectacular like the finish, but I don't see how it was close to being a war and for the most part I thought it was an unspectacular fight.

A good way to go out for sure though, and something Froch can continually remind us of.

They seem to prefer the "well I'm just happy to be here and hope to put on a good show" type of sportsman/woman, like for instance the English media have been going mad about the England Ladies football team reaching the semi finals saying how good it is even though the simple fact is - they lost - and they celebrate that yet if we get a brilliant but utterly cutthroat winner we play down their achievements.
