Price v Tepper
Re: Price v Tepper
He seems a diamond geezer, but not cut out for his chosen sport. If he was fighting Wlad the whole nation would've rallied behind him.
Sadly ironic that he very generously defended Audley after the Wilder blow out to the know nothing Richard Keys and he has now become that self same confidence-shot-kayo-in-waiting fighter.
As previously mentioned I really worry for him and hope he finds a life (and income) beyond boxing. From being touted as the man to topple the Klitschkos to this is quite the troublesome transition.

Oh dear. Could see it coming after round one. Time to call it a day. Confidence shit and no durability.

Re: Price v Tepper
Price allowed the smaller man to impose himself and crowd him, he looked frozen in there, his management need to pull him aside and tell him what the time is, - he's done.
Re: Price v Tepper
At the end of the fight I felt Pricey might be about to rip his own face off Mission Impossible style and reveal he was Tom Dallas all along.
Re: Price v Tepper
Price wishes he could be the new Audley Harrison.thechump wrote:Price seems a nice fella but boxing isnt his game,if he carrys on he will b the new audley harrison. It's not he doesn't know how to, he's too scared to throw it in case he get's countered.MrJasonM wrote:Just watched the fight.
It's hard to see a future in the sport for Price. His jab, with his size and power, should be a real weapon but he just doesn't know how to use it. I didnt even think the shot that knocked Price out was the biggest punch, however I do admit it's easy to say that sat at home.
I noticed on commentary they said Franny Smith was his trainer, I thought he left him?
All the same I think David Price might decide to hang them up now as I dont see where he goes in the sport. It's a shame as to echo what other people have said, he seems like such a nice guy.

Re: Price v Tepper
But unlike Price didn't suffer hundreds of knockdowns during his amateur career. Not saying Joshua is going to be the next greatest thing but the Joshua hate mob are clutching at straws if they use Price as a reason of hope on Joshua being chinless. You can see in Joshua's World championship final that his chin is better than Priceys.deadpan wrote:Joshua disciples take note. He's had no chin check, stamina test or warrior examination yet.Jack B wrote:Unbelievable to think that 2 and a half years ago I would have bet my house on Price KOing Fury within 6 rounds!
Re: Price v Tepper
I don't see any hate here and in general I'd say there's much more AJ adoration than hate. His chin, stamina, and general ability to cope on the defensive are still untested professionally, regardless of Price looking more vulnerable as an amateur, and I think that's important to consider when making lofty assertions about him already being top fighter in the division (an opinion that I've seen multiple times) or close to it.
Re: Price v Tepper
plenty of fights out there for price if he wants to carry on..i'd go for someone like piennata or wach. he just needs some lumbering lanky opponents to look good against. bit strange boxing news didnt even have a preview for his fight...there was a time when the euro heavyweight title was big news.
Re: Price v Tepper
Real shame. I enjoy Price's fights. Always on a knife edge since TT. Just wish he'd have rolled the dice and put his right hand into play.
Like James said he seemed too worried about being countered.

Re: Price v Tepper
Check out Joshua's world championship final and say he has yet to have a gut check. Granted it was the ams but he mixed it with a fair few top names, look at his fights against Cammarelle, someone who bounced Price off the canvas at will.
What Joshua has over Price, amongst other things, is genuine nastiness. That's good to have for a fighter

Re: Price v Tepper
Back on the scaffolding, just not cut out for fighting fellas who want to take him on.
Re: Price v Tepper
If Price carries on I'll be surprised, he's got zero chance of making it to the top. There are much easier ways to make a living than being a stepping stone for up and coming heavyweights.
Re: Price v Tepper
I know it is easy to be wise after an event but the moment I realised he would never make anything of his career in boxing was when he stopped John McDermott in the 1st round. The commentators were raving about how he'd blown McDermott away, but before he stopped Big John he was getting backed up against the ropes and he clearly had absolutely no idea how to control distance with his jab- an absolute essential when he is 6ft9. If you cant keep a plodder like McDermott off you, then you've no chance.
His jab last night was absolutely awful, just a tentative paw, more inhibited than Audley Harrison. He has absolutely no confidence in himself or his ability which is a shame as if you gave some other limited but brave fighters his body and power then could make it to the top.
Nice guy but he needs to retire.

Re: Price v Tepper
I agree about the jab,Price should have one of the best jabs in the business but he's never learned his lesson and an authoritive jab is key if he hates fighters getting up close,I said before the fight he needs a strong, purposeful jab and get it to work from the off but Teper had no problems getting up closeSupremo wrote:I know it is easy to be wise after an event but the moment I realised he would never make anything of his career in boxing was when he stopped John McDermott in the 1st round. Re: Price v Tepper
If he didn't have it after the amateur career he had then he was never going to get it. He should be able to toy with basic fighters like Tepper for a good few rounds using only his jab and the threat of a straight right/ right upper.
All price should need at his height and power level is a jab, straight right, right upper and a left hook. The only 4 punches he would ever need.

Re: Price v Tepper
Unless he showcases it in training all the time yet cannot transfer it to the ring when it really matters? Even as an am I don't remember him having a particularly 'great' jab. Obviously against the domestic level guys it could look decent at times but the majority of them he had beat before he got in the ring and he knew it.Supremo wrote:If he didn't have it after the amateur career he had then he was never going to get it. He's just too fragile. 6'9 yet fights "small". Given his physical advantages over almost everyone coupled with his power he should be the one that people fear getting in the ring with but it seems like the opposite!

Plumbing for Pricey from now on. Poor bugger
Re: Price v Tepper
I can't see price fighting again he's to damaged now with 0% confidence ,he looked really gun shy like an amateur scared to take shots . I doubt he'd want to carry on as an opponent getting chinned each fight as he doesn't seem to be able to do 10 RDS eitherveriton wrote:plenty of fights out there for price if he wants to carry on..i'd go for someone like piennata or wach. he just needs some lumbering lanky opponents to look good against. bit strange boxing news didnt even have a preview for his fight...there was a time when the euro heavyweight title was big news.
