Cuenca vs. Yang -IBF Light-welter title, tonight.
Cuenca vs. Yang -IBF Light-welter title, tonight.
In Macau, tonight....(vacant) IBF Light-welter.
Cuenca, the Argentinian, has a perfect 47-0 record yet somehow has only two stoppages on there.
Yang Lianhui will be only China's second ever fighter to own a world title, should he win and the Freddie Roach trained fighter starts a heavy favourite. He's 19-0 (14).
It looks like after tonight China could have a second ever world champion, altho this Argy must have some good skills of his own and he's going to need them.

Watched his last fight Ik Yang is a lunatic.
Re: Cuenca vs. Yang -IBF Light-welter title, tonight.
I've only seen him once but he looks game and entertaining with power. Not seen the Argy fellow but I had clocked his record on here a good while ago and wondered how I'd never heard of him. Took a look through his record though and quickly realised why.

Yang is fun to watch he just goes hell for leather trying to get his for outta there,Cuenca's record is baffling,47 fights unbeaten and this is first real test, only 2 KO's is truly staggering
Should be fun though, its at half 1 this afternoom but I'm missing all Saturdays action as I'm away so praise the lord for TiVo, I couldn't have picked a worse day to be away, maybe I should tell the Mrs I have man flu and retreat to bed(with the TV on)

It ought to be impossible to win 47 fights and NOT LOSE yet stop only two guys. He must be doing something wrong! Even cumulative punches are enough to get a fight stopped in most countries. There again, it's got him a shot at 10 stone - which is not one of these relatively weak weight extremity divisions.
I know we complain all the time about stuff in boxing but I can't help think this guy's management should have flung him a couple of stiffs.
I mean it must be a blummin record there's only Rigondeaux and maybe Lomachenko that's had a tilt with as few knockouts - because they fought for titles after hardly any (professional) fights.

Anyone watching ? Donaire just smashed his opponent without using his notorious left hook, he was a career Bantamweight but looked bigger than Nonito in there.
HBO mentioned Scott Quigg very dangerous fight for Scott IMO

Good stuff. Shame about the premature ending there. Glad there's plenty of action and not just studio talk.

Yang getting schooled

Yang is bloody awful. How the hell he was a 1/8 favourite for this I have no idea. Complete plodder.

What happened in the main fight?
Re: Cuenca vs. Yang -IBF Light-welter title, tonight.
I thought this was top of the bill. Wasn't able to watch it , did box nat' put this on? It's the sort of thing they'd seek out and bring to the hardcore fan
So Yang had no movement..well that's disappointing for this level. It won't be for the want of coaching I shouldn't imagine, under Roach.
Did the Argy win then?

Actually reminds me of a ten stone fighter I knew who could tie them up in knots, I saw him go 22-0 versus a journeyman called William Webster. Beat Junior Witter three times as an amateur. This fight would've been up his street. Michael Hall

What a bloody annoying gobshite referee that was. I hope we don't see him working outside of China.

You might not see him but most of his work isn't in China. He's a Filipino ref who is generally regarded as either their top or 2nd top guyKilburn wrote:What a bloody annoying gobshite referee that was. I hope we don't see him working outside of China.

Funny, I've seen someone else say that the ref did an excellent job.

I thought he was on Yang's case a bit, but compared to some other refs he was more than acceptable. Danrex Tapsadan is a bit hit and miss though.

I had it 115-110 Cuenca, that was first time I'd seen him and was impressed,he's a class boxer, pity about the lack of dig but if he can box like that then shouldn't hinder him too much,Yang was crude and just didn't let his hands go enough, struggled with Cuenca's movement

I thought it was an excellent bill plenty of fights. BN only shows a couple of fights from some shows although I know they can only provide what the feed gives them.
