KOs cause amnesia. Quigg demonstrated great punching power yesterday but thats it. He was hopelessly outboxed in the 1st round. Poor jab, average movement.

I pick Frampton to win, but Quigg does have some punchers chance.

No it doesn't. All it proves is that you don't know what you're talking about. Frampton boxed live on terrestrial TV in the UK, Ireland and America, for a career high payday and massive exposure. David Haye explained it well before the fight, Barry's taking his cut of Carl's purse, if he had no confidence in him he would have gone running to the Quigg fight to take the money while it was there. Like he could have done with Enzo Maccarinelli, instead he worked his way up and went to Paris to fight Mormeck for short money, won the titles putting him in a far better position for the fight with Enzo, making him far more money than he would have done had he gone into it as the voluntary challenger. That was only possible because he and Adam Booth were confident that he was good enough to take that route. The same applies with Frampton, last night only makes a potential fight with Quigg bigger, they could have gone running to Hearn when he was waving his cheque about, only a shortsighted fool would have done that, it wasn't actually a good deal when you take a closer look and neither was the whole 60-40 to the winner bullshit.

I'm not particularly fussed about the whys and where's of it and I can see why Frampton is going about it the way he is etc, will say the Haye comparison is good although Haye was a better fighter than Frampton is and it was less of a risk for him to take that approach.

I still think Frampton beats Quigg despite last nights events. It's a very competitive match up though. Just hope they share a ring sometime soon which I don't think they will. To earn their biggest payday they both need to fight each other! Just get it on already.

I still just pick Frampton as I just see a more rounded fighter with good all round ability and good power. Quigg just looks the more fragile and less rounded boxer out of the two.

However last night is a fairly significant setback for Frampton being put down twice and that Mexican was hurting him at other times in the fight, so maybe he is more fragile than we thought.

Sets it up brilliantly now for them to get this thing on! Hopefully it can be made.

havn't ever seen quigg look fragile tbh , yes he takes shots , but does he ever get really buzzed by them ?
Quigg the winner for me if they ever fought ( which I don't think they will now ,if Frampton has weight issues)

I am not so sure we'll see Carl at super-bantam again.

But I could live with Frampton v Selby...that's a very nice alternative to a showdown with Quigg.

Frampton has looked the better of the two overall but last night he was floored twice by a fringe contender and despite dominating the vast majority fight, didn't seem able to hurt his opponent.
If that was Quigg he would be getting slated to high heaven.
But it wasn't Quigg was it?
Because Quigg was busy destroying a genuine world class opponent in two rounds.

Just saying....

Years ago I thought Quigg, been on the Frampton train for a while now but I was massively impressed with the way Quigg got rid of Martinez. Just about to watch Frampton's fight so we'll see. Either way, this fight needs to happen soon.

Was Haye better than Frampton? I'm really not sure about that.

I still think Frampton wins not least because styles make fights and Frampton has more variety to what he can do. I also don't think we can read more punching power into anything. Frampton stiffed Martinez with a single shot in their first fight. It happens, both can dig. What I would say is read nothing into the knockdowns last night considering Frampton took Martinez's best shots and we know he can punch. I don't think anything changes that it's a close fight between 2 very good fighters.

However, the weight question may change that. I suspect the people organising the fight thought this guy wouldn't be too much trouble so they took a higher profile title fight than a nothing featherweight opponent for his first US fight. It possibly was a mistake and it will be interesting to see how things progress.

Quigg got put down by Jamie Arthur who has 4 KOs on the slate. He was also down early in his career I seem to recall, just checked it was 1st round against Angelo Villani, a 4-1-1 opponent who is now on 4-3-2 and inactive.

ok - fair enough , were they flash knockdowns like Frampton's last night ? or proper knockdowns where the effects are more obvious ?

Barry Mc turned down the Quigg fight to fight the no.53 in the world, no.12 Mexican. After seeing his man floored twice, do you really think he'll let him go anywhere near Selby?

Not sure how anyone thinks that Quigg would win. Yes Frampton was put on the floor twice, but he wasn't knocked down hard, with one of them mainly being because he was slightly off balance. Now, this doesn't excuse what happened, but Quigg is not anywhere near as attacking as Gonzalez, and loves to pick his shots a bit more. Kiko took the first round easily, but you have to give Quigg a lot of credit for that shot.

Personally I think Frampton outworks Quigg and wins by a large UD.

also a counterpunching style which would try to lure Frampton forward, he would be stylistic death for Frampton I am sure.

I personally think Frampton was just using the weight issue as an excuse after getting put down & hurt a few times. 3 months ago he was the biggest punching super bantam in the world after beating Avalos

If he took the weight off on the day of the weigh in it would explain both fragility and lack of power - question would still be whether they just screwed up or almost took one chance too many on making weight.

A lot depends on who referees the bout, both are likely to get hit hard and hurt and there are refs that will jump in too quickly, as soon as one is wobbled. It will be a tough, hard battle for both of them. Frampton to me is crisper and quicker with his shots but Quigg seems stronger and the bigger man at the weight. It'll be a good bout and I hope it comes off though I'm not holding my breath.

Not sure Quigg is stronger but I do think when he gets in range he fires really good combinations that build up damage quicker, really like how he switches swiftly up and down. I do rate the pair of them.

Just to be clear....was not making a prediction or a judgement...just said it was a fight I would like to see down the line.

Frampton six months down the line could be nicely settled-in at featherweight and his aggression and Lee's skills would make for a good clash of styles. Come on; its not that bad a fight if Carl actually grows into a featherweight.

For me, Frampton has been hyped up far too much. His defence has always been poor, gets caught far too easily for a 'world class' fighter and lets be honest if Gonzalez was a half decent puncher he would have got Frampton out of there. He was a bit flat and his team did hint about moving to featherweight but I think he's too small. Mr McGuigan may well wish he'd taken the £1,5 million now to fight Quigg because now he's committed to fighting on Haymon cards the fights are not going to get any easier

It's a good fight, but they're not going to duck one of Matchroom's fighters to get in with a bigger and better one.

I was actually impressed by Frampton.

With the knockdowns he was just caught cold. He's been in with bigger punchers before and not got put down.

Impressive, exciting US debut against a Mexican in El Paso which is as close to Mexico as you get.

Quigg I expect to see against Donaire and then Rigondeaux if he wins.

I don't see them fighting each other at SB. Looks like another fight lost for the paying public.

I'm still not over missing Lopez and Gamboa :witzend:

I still think frampton would win but i don't think it would be the completely one sided blow out I thought it would be before. More 70/30 in framptons favour.

I was aware of Gonzales jr before the fight so I knew he was a very underestimated opponent.

Also without the heat in the UK I think frampton will find it much easier to make weight. You have to keep taking water on training in Texas and he did look a little lethargic compared to his usual movement and tempo.

The quigg ko was impressive.
