Post by bogan whisperer »

In what shapes as the battle of the tattoos Lucas Browne's next opponent is likely to be 6ft 6in Argentinian Gonzalo Omar Basile.

Basile is 41 years of age and 66-11.

Found an article. Looks like it is confirmed:

http://www.BS.com/lucas-browne ... 4th--93571

LUCAS BROWNE will engage in a warm up contest against Argentina's experienced Gonzalo Basile next month before switching his attention to WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev.

Hatton Promotions has taken the decision to allow Lucas to defend his WBA Intercontinental title against battle-hardened Basile in Melbourne on August 14.

The fight represents a huge risk as the South American has a solid record consisting of 66 victories with 30 knockouts from 77 contests. However, Ricky Hatton has every faith that Browne will prevail before going onto conquer Chagaev.

"It's a very tough fight and a potential banana skin for Lucas, but everyone knows how hard he hits and I think Lucas will score another knockout," Ricky said.

"Lucas is the kind of guy who wants to fight every week and he's obviously been disappointed with the delay [to the Chagaev bout], but he now understands that it's not the fault of Hatton Promotions or the WBA.

"Chagaev's people wanted to delay the fight so they could face Francesco Pianeta and paid Lucas money to step aside. That fight got pushed back and then Fres Oquendo went through the courts to get a rematch with Chagaev.

"Now we're on the verge of everything being sorted out and if Lucas gets past Basile, his next fight will be for the world title.

"Chagaev has 120 days to face Oquendo and then he has to fight Lucas. If that doesn't happen, the title will be vacant and Lucas will fight for it. Either way he gets his shot.

The Browne v Basille fight is part of an eight fight card promoted by Brian Amatruda and will be broadcast free to air across Australia on Channel 9.

Basile is quite fragile despite the big physique and intimidating look....good chance of a big knockout here.

Better than Browne sitting with his thumb up his date until the Days Of Our Lives-like Oquendo-Chagaev saga reaches an end. Free to air telly coverage, a big lump of an opponent, why not. Basile has a lot of experience and maybe can show Browne something, but anything other than a KO win for Browne would be very surprising.

hope he does plenty of publicity in the lead up to it.

he's a good guy and deserves to be supported well imo.

Great idea to get Browne back on free to air TV. His fight against Welliver should never have been televised. If anything it set boxing back. Dreadful spectacle.

The difference is Green is already rich and selling his fight as PPV
Browne is fighting on free to air TV undercard and not claiming to be a 4 time world champion.

:TU: And this is not billed as a world title defence. And Basile is not coming out of rehab or a 3 1/2 year lay-off.

give me a break!

they r both professional fighters, fighting guys who should be well out of their depth and just basically padding their records.

so they r either both a disgrace or not.

Not fair to tar them with the same brush, Green is in a position where he can pick his opponents, Browne at this stage has to fight whoever his promoter puts in front of him.

Danny has the money and resources to fight whoever he wants and controls and promotes his own career. Lucas doesn't and obviously doesn't want to ruin his chance at a title shot and not asking gullible people to fork out $50 to see him fight.

this is hilarious!

a bit hard to charge people $50 when nobody knows who u r.

they r both padding their records but only the one named danny is a disgrace, pmsl.

and its still the same ones who don't like it.

nobody is forced to watch either fight btw.

Dwight Ritchie, who was initially to fight Reynold Quinlan, and after Quinlan pulled out, Luke Sharp. Is now looking for yet another opponent after Sharp's withdrawl due to a back injury.
