Jadah still the champ

Judah still IBF champion!
IBF championship chairman Lindsey Tucker has cleared up some confusion concerning the status of Zab Judah after his loss to Carlos Baldomir on January 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Judah is still the IBF welterweight champion because his title was not on the line as Baldomir did not comply with IBF rules for sanction.
Baldomir did not pay IBF sanction fees.
Rule 2.B: Sanction Fees – In each title contest, the promoter must submit payment of the entire sanction fee for promoter and contestants to the IBF/USBA Bout Supervisor at the Rules Meeting.Baldomir did not participate in the second day weigh-in.
Rule 1.F: Second Day weigh-In – There shall be a second weigh-in on the morning of the event. At this weigh-in, boxers cannot weigh more than 10 pounds over the weight limit. If either boxer does not make the weight, the fight cannot proceed as a Championship bout.As an aside, a condition of sanction is that all boxers fighting for IBF titles must become a participant in the IBF retirement and trust plan. This is a savings plan for boxers to ensure that they have some money put aside when they retire from boxing. Baldomir refused to join the plan.

I understand that Baldomir isnt the champ, but I would have thourght that the title would be vacant. But maybe they hope they will get good sanctionfees from a possibly Judah vs Mayweather fight.

This is fornicating stupid. The title should surely be vacant, just because Baldomir didn't pay sanctioning fees, why should Judah keep the belt, that is bollocks.

They just want to cash in on Judah hoping he gets his date with Mayweather.

Why did Carlos have to pay the fees if he won the right to fight for the WBC title? Shouldn't that be the promotors responsibility?

King could of paid the sanction fees easy but must of thought Carlos was risky.

Baldomir said if he had paid for the other two sanctions he would of walked away with no money so I don't blame him.

when lloyd honeyghan lost to jorge vaca back in the 80's he was stripped of his ibf belt in a similar situation.

good to see the IBF are keeping up their usual high standards. Surely even Judah isn't brazen enough to go around calling himself a world champion now. I'd guess he's as embarrassed by this as everyone else.

He was honest enough to call his WBO belt worthless awhile back.

Truth is, I'd still like to see Zab go for PBF in April. Still a much more interesting fight than Floyd against Baldomir IMO, and who else out there can give Floyd a run for his money? Hatton seems off the cards for a year at least.

Zab knows it's the last chance saloon, and looking to salvage a career on the rocks could be a real danger to Floyd - as long as he keeps his chin out of the way that is.

This is old policy, I have got some old issues of the ring and KO magazine and Hagler was listed as WBA champion well after his loss with Leonard.

Ah right, but I think I know why the Hagler case was so. Possibly the WBA refused to recognise it, because the fight was over 12 rounds. Were the WBA still doing 15 round fights then? That's a fair reason in my book not to recognise the winner as champion.

I'd like to see Zab earn a shot at Mayweather possibly for the end of the year.

Zab needs to get back in the ring quickly, alot of boxing fans have short memories, if Judah gets back with a impressive knockout then the Maywether fight will be back on.

If Zab blasts Margarito out of the ring, I'm sure everything about the Baldomir fight will be forgotten.

Yeah but what if Margarito blasts Zab out? Margarito is no push over, he has a solid chin and thorws plenty of punches, as soon as he lands flush it will be interesting to see what happens to Judah. But i take your point and i think Margarito-Judah would be a very good fight to make.

If it did happen, I'd place a lot of money on Margarito, comfortably.

Yeah Magarito is exactly the type of fighter Judah wouldn't want to fight. And Mayweather too, according to Arum.
