Deontay Wilder vs. Andrzej Wawrzyk

Post by Freedom2013 »

Several websites in Poland are reporting Deontay Wilder will likely be fighting Andrzej Wawrzyk on 26/09/15.

Al Haymon has recently signed Wawrzyk, who is coming back from a long layoff after an auto accident resulting in serious injuries which nearly ended his boxing career.

Wawrzyk with quick return, then Wilder?

Andrew Wawrzyk will compete with Deontay Wilder of the WBC heavyweight belt?!

If it's true it further suggests that Wilder's team has little confidence in him.

I wonder why?

Wilder needs to start demanding quality opponents. He deserves the criticsm he is getting.

How long before he must defend against the mandatory WBC challenger Potvetkin? Does he have one year? And one year from what date? This is a joke.

Povetkin wants to fight him now, but Wilder's putting it off as long as possible.

As I said in a different thread, Wilder doubters even had their wish list of acceptable crappy opponents...and somehow Wilder's people found someone worse

I believe he has a year.
As far as Povetkin wanting him now, according to Wilder they have heard nothing from his team, and made it clear they would stay busy in the meantime. I think early 2016 they will fight.

Povetkin's team contacted Wilder immediately after his win over Perez. But Wilder's team requested to the WBC that they have time to take a couple of interim fights. The WBC approved a delay until October until negotiations have to begin.

Povetkin wants the fight ASAP. http://www.BS.com/povetkin-rea ... alk--92900

This is bad !! how can the WBC approve this ?

Povetkin smashed this guy two years ago without breaking a sweat. He has since fought Danny Williams and Botha who are really really really shot fighters. He has his first fight in 16 months tonight in what should be an easy win.

Wilder has had. More than enough easy knock over wins early in his career should at least fight someone like Lucas Browne who really wanted the fight.

And Wawrzyk is coming back from a very serious injury from an auto accident, that nearly ended his career.

Here's his fight from today, he looks in terrible shape after the long layoff:

I wonder how much it costs to get a guy ranked by the WBC after he has 16 months off then beats someone who is now 3-15?

i think this fight will not happen. Mateusz Borek is known for telling not true about some Polish boxers just to make people talk about him. they plan something big for Wawrzyk in USA for september but i doubt it will be Wilder. but i dont say its impossible because Wawrzyk is the same level as Molina and Wilder had some troubles with him so if not Wawrzyk then someone not much better than him.

Wilder against Povetkin in Moscow would be like Rocky 4.
Povetkin travels to America first to fight Apollo (Shannon Briggs) then Wilder avenges his friend.

He was also knocked down against Aliaksandr Mazaleu (1-14, 0 KO), Harvey Jolly (14-22-1, 7 KO) and in the end of the first round against Denis Bakhtov. It was really, really hard KD and I think only bell saved Wawrzyk from KO. Also, in the 8th round Baktov send him dancing around the ring with his left hook. Wawzyk's dance puts Zab Judah to a shame - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIfjHiNhI9g

Hopefully this is just a rumor, because Wawrzyk is probably even worse than Molina.

I don't understand why they're so hesitant to give Wilder decent opponents. He fought a nicely controlled 12 rounds against Stiverne. He didn't gas or get KO'd by the first shot that hit him as people suggested. I know Stiverne is kinda so-so but that fight at least demonstrated that Wilder wouldn't crumble at the first top 20 opponent he faced. So why not at least get him a semi-decent opponent like Szpilka, Fedosov, Charr, Chagaev, etc?

Hell, why not Glazkov? He's a highly-rated guy in the division, but he's light on power and has shown himself to be beatable. Perfect opponent.

Glazkov is the IBF mandatory and will be fighting Klitschko for a much larger payday in the first half of 2016.

Amir Mansour, Lucas Browne, Bryant Jennings and Kubrat Pulev would also be acceptable as opponents.

I'd make him clear second favourite against Wlad, Povetkin, Fury and Pulev

and i'd give the likes of Glaskov, Takem, Chagaev or Jennings a decent shout against him although I'd fancy Wilder to get the stoppage due to the difference in power

Wawrzyk fight is not happening, he isn't ranked in the top 40 of the WBC and his coming off a serious injury.

I think the plan was to fight Arreola but after two bad performances it seems like that idea has been scrapped. More likely to wind up fighting a guy like Szpilka or Thompson now which are better fights in my opinion.

Wilder has 6 months to negotiate with Povetkin's team, same as the six months Wilder had to negotiate with Stiverne when he became mandatory. Then it goes to a purse bid which they probably want to avoid because they would most likely have to fight in Moscow.

The heavyweight division is overloaded with crappy fighter.

How is fighting the Pole any different than defending the heavyweight title against a Pulev, Wach or Pianetta? Not to mention a Leapai.

Wilder is still young. Give him time and he'll clean out this dismal division.

That's an easy one: he's not as good as any of them.

And while Wilder may be young, but if he plans to clean out the division he'd better start fighting decent competition. At this pace he'll be fighting his second top 20 opponent when he's in his 60's

What? like Wilder?

For me Pulev would beat him, so comparing Kubrat to this Wawrzyk is a poor comparison
