Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - Auckland - October 15th
This rumour seems to have gathered enough momentum to have its own thread.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - October 15th ??
We have pieced together thus far that BoxRec lists Joseph Parker's October 15th fight as being against TBA (perhaps Kali Meehan in light of rumours in another thread here), in Auckland.
BoxRec also lists Jeff Horn's scheduled October bout - after he fights Viktor Plotnykov - on the same Auckland card.

Re: Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - October 15th ??
Meehan is a big strong fighter. Ideal for this stage of JP's development. I look forward to it
I wonder if Duco are thinking of splitting Horn and Parker, and having JP in Auckland and Horn on his own card in Brissy? Hard to make sense of what Duco have been saying in the press. Horn's fight in Bris in October was nearly sorted and down to finalising tv rights a month ago

Parker and Meehan are both Aucklanders. Surely that is the logical place to hold a bout between the pair?lowlefthand wrote:Meehan is a big strong fighter. Ideal for this stage of JP's development. I look forward to it

Cheers for the confirmation. I couldn't see any sense in them holding it anywhere else.lowlefthand wrote:Looks like it's been confirmed as the Trusts Arena in Auckland for the 15th October

sounds like Meehan is caught up in a deal his promoter has - that's boxing!

That doesn't have the look of an insurmountable hurdle. Even if Meehan does lose some of his purse to the previous deal he will still make money fighting Parker than he would anybody else.lowlefthand wrote:sounds like Meehan is caught up in a deal his promoter has - that's boxing!

Agreed - but it must suck paying someone huge sums because they never delivered on what they promised youLike a Boss wrote:That doesn't have the look of an insurmountable hurdle. As far as I know they had a contract for Meehan to fight Tua at the end of the year (as long as he was in shape) - good luck getting that one over the line...

Typical boxing story really. I just hope nothing does get in the way of Parker vs Meehan because it should be a huge fight. Particularly for Auckland and NZ.lowlefthand wrote:Agreed - but it must suck paying someone huge sums because they never delivered on what they promised youLike a Boss wrote:That doesn't have the look of an insurmountable hurdle. Kali meehan vs parker make it happen. Meehan deserves a good money fight before retirement and has served NZ and Oz well over the years for boxing.
Id go if it in Auckland.

Meehan past his prime, but proud and tough. Should give Joseph a few rounds

Re: Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - Auckland - October 15th
these r not the sort of fights that Meehan should be going for.
he should be facing guys who r a bit easier to hit at least.

I guess now Tua looks like he's 150kg, Meehan gave up on that as an earner. He's 45, so going out with the classic old lion vs young lion in West Auckland. Stands to make a decent payday as well

Re: Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - Auckland - October 15th
Kali Meehan says this fight with Joseph Parker will be his last:
“Win, lose or draw, this is going to be my last fight and I want to end my career where it all began in West Auckland,” Meehan said. “You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know a young fighter like Joseph will be instructed to tire someone like me out, but I’m ready for a war. I’m prepared for 12 rounds and want to end on a high.”

Joseph Parker Tabs Meehan as Perfect Foe To Test Skills
By Duncan Johnstone
"There's a lot of talk about the size of the guys in the rankings ahead of us, so to fight a guy of Kali's height and size is a perfect fit for us," Parker's trainer Kevin Barry said at a media conference in Auckland.
The top of the division is dominated by giants like champions Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder and Parker needs to get comfortable with bigger opponents.
Parker acknowledged that as he gets set to give away 3cm in height and 13cm in reach to Meehan.
"Kali is an ideal fight right now. He brings a long reach, plenty of height and a lot of experience," the 23-year-old Parker, fresh of his first round knockout of Bowie Tupou.
"In the past I have found I got quite tired punching upwards, so that's something we'll need to look at and we will have to find tall sparring partners."
Parker was also happy to further explain the knockout of Tupou that happened so quickly it deceived many observers. Parker suggested the person most deceived was Tupou.
"It's the one you don't expect that knocks you out," Parker said of managing to counter the charging Tupou with the perfect connection.

Kevin Barry says he is looking for a career defining performance from Joe Parker against Meehan:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-spor ... ali-meehan
Barry says that "three years into his trade" Parker needs a defining performance against the veteran Meehan.
"This fight means a bit more to us than other fights," Barry said as Parker completed his Las Vegas training camp.
"With the momentum we have, it's important we don't slip up now. We want all our weapons on display against Kali Meehan.
"It's very important we take care of business in tremendous fashion."
"People say Joe hasn't had a war yet, hasn't had to dig deep over the last few rounds and had to come back. People say Joe has to start fighting big guys because the current champions are big men.
"Kali Meehan presents these challenges. I think this is the right fight at the right time for Joe.
"We are taking this very, very seriously. We are fighting a very big, very experienced guy who really has nothing to lose. I'm sure we are going to get the best Kali Meehan has to offer and we have prepared accordingly."
"Kali is a big, strong, physical guy and we expect a big, strong, physical fight. This is a chance for Joe to show he is stronger in the ring."

Re: Joseph Parker vs Kali Meehan - Auckland - October 15th
A little bit of disgrace to boxing where the referee from Willis Meehan vs Leamy Lakopo Tato bout didnt step in I counted 13 seconds where willis was punch Leamy continuously with the mouth guard fallen out and leamy bleeding then the bell ring
in the second round it happened again but this time the ref step in and willis turn to the ref and yelled at him "about time you step in"
