What Rematch would you most like to see happen in 2016?

Post by caldo2025 »

I don't know if it's due to the promoter wars or the lack of quality fights recently but you rarely see the rematch in boxing these days. Why is that? I love the rematch or the trilogy in boxing but have we seen the last of them in the current world of boxing?

Froch/Groves, Floyd/Maidana, Chavez Jr/Viera, Cotto/Marguarito, Manny/JMM are the only ones that i can think of in recent years and those were not exactly Holyfield/Bowe. Who can forget the Ward/Gatti trilogy? Two mediocre boxers at the end of their careers made millions utilizing the rematch and trilogy idea.

Looking at current active fighters in boxing, what is the rematch you would most like to see happen if you had the choice?

(I happen to be lucky because my choice was Mosely/Mayorga II so i'm pumped )

Agreed.

This time with a ref that won't allow Wlad to hold so much and for so long each time.

It would be a completely different fight.

Also throw in the fact Povetkin has a completely different physique now. He's lost his layer of flubber.
I think he's improved a lot as a fighter.

For me.

James DeGale v George Groves
Billy Joe Saunders v Chris Eubank Jnr

Are the immediate standout rematches I would love to see happen. And if I am feeling bloodthirsty then

Tim Bradley v Ruslan Provokinkov would be nice
Carl Froch v Mikkel Kessler III. I don't think will actually happen but there is part of me that wants to see Eddie Hearn break the bank on this one.

It'd be cool if they could get Salido-Martinez II for the Cotto-Canelo undercard. The first one was overlooked but excellent.

If Groves can beat Jack, then Groves-DeGale II.

I wouldn't hate Crawford-Gamboa II, though the first one was fairly decisive. What is Gamboa doing these days anyway?

Too many fights that haven't been made to dwell on rematches.

I did not especially like FMJ v Maidana I, the rematch was a pure waste of time and space. JMM v Pac again? No thank you.

Pac v Ramming Speed II made sense. Khan v Garcia II would be ok but both should be fighting others first (Brook for Khan and someone with a pulse for Garcia.

The Provoglodyte v Ramming Speed II would be VERY interesting.

Roy Jones Jr vs Bernard Hopkins rubber match.

We surely can't go to our graves with this one unresolved.

All joking aside, this possibly makes more sense than it did in 2010
