how did Hughie perform last night?
against George Arias. How did he do over the 10 round points win? I never saw the fight but getting 10 rounds was it a good win or just a laboured 10 round plod?
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Looked in control throughout and certainly looks sharper than he did before the layoff and skilful. He lacks power though which may come as he matures.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Thought he coasted a bit to the end but can't be critical of him he is still only 20 which is a baby at heavyweight. I think he could have stopped him if he worked the body more always thought he was a good body puncher. No rush with him another 10 rounds will do him good.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Skill-wise he looked good and I think he can develop to be a better boxer than his cousin. I thought he looked sharp at the weight and would like to see him continue fighting around the 220 mark in the future, there's no value in heavyweights carrying excess body fat yet so many of them do; Tyson take note...
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
At 20 I think the biggest danger is moving him too fast.
He just needs to learn his trade against decent journeyman. Get the rounds in and be mindful of training too hard. There is a danger of him burning out in a couple of years if he does too much training at his age, he isnt a Mike Tyson.
He has talent though so be nice to see him progress, he certainly has the abilyt from what I have seen to achieve what his cousin Tyson is achieving right now.

Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
I wasnt too impressed with him literally running away in round 10 and turning away whilst flicking out a job as he legged it.
Its true he is young, and will develop. His big problem, as people always mention, is his lack of power. Goog luck to the lad, hard way to make a living.

Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Easy win, felt because Arias just had his guard up for the whole fight he should of worked the body more. He lacked power and struggled to spin of from the ropes to the centre of the ring but this will all come together the older/more fights he has, I'd personally like to see his defence more.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Let's be honest, if his surname wasn't Fury then he wouldn't be 15-0 (his current arrangement in order to get fights is well known - it is not his "fault" and I don't blame the lad for taking this advantage).
Based on his performances so far in my opinion he no way looks like an unbeaten pro after 15 fights.
He will continue along the same lines as Matthew Hatton - hopefully after a few more years and a couple of dozen more fights he will come good ( as Matthew Hatton did to be fair) however he will be afforded this luxury by virtue of his family connection.

Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
It was good that he was in shape and he moves quite well. My only concern is his jab, a lot if the time he was just extending his arm like David Price, when he should be snapping out into the opponent. The ref pulled him up on it a couple of times. Still, I think he shows good potential for a 20 year old.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
I thought he looked a bit one dimensional basicly throwing one twos and moving a lot he doesn't seem to know how to open a fighter up no fients or mixing up his shots, plus he had no power in his shots and he seemed weak . I think he should do some strength conditioning put some muscle on him it was good that he was lighter but he could be light and have some strength like wilder .

You didn't see it?
Channel 5 televised the bloody fight twice.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
he did well, but arias wasnt trying much. some decent combos, rocked him early on then potshotted for the rest of it. hés a young kid and that was a good win for him.
serious skin condition though, his zits on his chest and back were bleeding.

Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
He showed good aspects - fast hands, good punch variety, excellent movement - and some rather poor ones - telegraphing the right hand far too much, running out of ideas late on, not much power. Certainly a work in progress even after 15 fights, but at 20 he has plenty of time.

Are you saying he would have lost a couple of the fights he's had or he would have had less fights or something else?
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
People criticise Hughie, but he has rounds under his belt and is only 20.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
If they knew then what they know now, with the health issues etc., I wonder if Hughie would have turned over as young as he did.
Seems like he was a very good amateur maybe he could have gone to the Olympics.

Hughie has fought 2 more fights than AJ so at this stage in both careers if they met would AJ stop him in a round do you think? Would it be a close match? Thoughts........
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
AJ would stop Hughie inside 2 rounds .....a boy vs a man at the momentmimmy123 wrote:Hughie has fought 2 more fights than AJ so at this stage in both careers if they met would AJ stop him in a round do you think? Would it be a close match? Thoughts........
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Joshua would flatten him as soon as he caught up with him. That's not saying much though as AJ would flatten most heavyweights inside 4 rounds. Even though Hughie has had more fights they are at completely different stages in terms of progress.mimmy123 wrote:Hughie has fought 2 more fights than AJ so at this stage in both careers if they met would AJ stop him in a round do you think? Hughie's lack of power is a bit of a worry, but as mentioned by others it will probably improve with time. He's only 20, don't see any point in rushing him to world level.
Would like to see him in some domestic fights next. McDermott would have been ideal if he wasn't so inactive. What about Richard Towers? Or Gary Cornish after AJ has smashed him?
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
hard to believe Hughie was only 15st 7 last night. he does seem to have lost a fair bit of weight but I believe he has had a viral blood disorder which would contribute to this. at 6ft6 or so Hughie should fill in at around 16st8 when he gets all of his man strength. hopefully his power will develop with his age and weight. Hughie is frustrating but undoubtedly talented, he moves well, turns opponents well too.
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
As Hughie doesn't get paid and team Fury pay the opponents purse in full, they have been able to get him to 15 fights quite quickly and carefully selected all of his opponents.Taansend wrote:Hello Mate.bripez wrote:Let's be honest, if his surname wasn't Fury then he wouldn't be 15-0 (his current arrangement in order to get fights is well known - it is not his "fault" and I don't blame the lad for taking this advantage).

As I said, I am not criticising the lad - it is the formula I would follow if I were in their shoes.
Do you think that he looks like a 15-0 lad ? Also, do you think he would have been managed to his current record over the same timescale without his family connections?
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Plenty of potential for sure.....quick hands, decent work-rate, good and quick mover and a nice variety of punches as well. Also seems a better listener than Tyson which might serve him well.
But he's clearly still maturing physically - the poor lad still seems to have terrible acne - and the Brazilian really did not offer a great deal other than stubborness and some decent-ish know-how about sticking in there. His best shots were when he hit Hughie on the break!
I still think Hughie has got about 12-18 months to go before we get a good understanding of what he can really do....but if he can keep that speed and mobility whilst having filled out to around 225 pounds then he's going to be very useful.
Agree with the earlier posters; AJ would have him on toast right now and I am pretty sure Peter Fury has a good understanding as to where his son is at and will be smart when it comes to picking the moment for a championship-class fight.

Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
Tidy enough boxer but lacks power, at age 20 it's very young for a heavyweight these days there are some huge lumps out there. I won't rush into judging him right now, I got bored halfway through this fight however and turned it off!
Re: how did Hughie perform last night?
As soon as Tyson gets smashed Hughies mediocre run comes to an end.
No more exposure on tv which is absolutely correct.

Name a heavyweight that 'developed' punching power? You either have it or not as a heavy.
That's not slagging him off, but they need to develop his boxing skills as he's not going to suddenly turn into Joe Frazier
