I watched Assault in the Ring this morning,also known as Cornered-A life caught in the ring

Superb docu about the Luis Resto -Billy Collins Jr fight on the Duran-Moore card

HIGHLY recommended

Im off work for a fortnight,gonna hammer some serious boxing documentries and classic fights

Firstly i'll work my way through the Legendary Nights series and both Fullmer-Basillio fights

This documentary on the Hiltons is well worth a look. It flicks between French and English in the interviews, but English subtitles are always provided.

It's a bit bleak. Pushy father. Sons who just know boxing. Alcohol problems, prison, crime.

Also Davey Hilton got sent down for child sexual abuse on his own daughter. He married Arturo Gatti's sister I believe, there's a big Mafiosi style wedding. But at the time the doc was filmed, the facts couldn't be revealed to protect the daughters. Now it's common knowledge.

There's also no info on the attack that left Mathew Hilton badly damaged. I'm not sure if this is for legal reasons.

It's a dark documentary about the most well known Canadian boxing family.

Have a look for Maravilla - a documentary about Sergio Martinez.

It was really good and insightful - although made thoroughly depressing viewing with regards to the behind the scenes business of boxing.

He couldn't get a fight and moved to Spain for years fighting for a few quid, and taking fights in Britain etc.

He also states that he boxed Antonio Margarito for $1,000 yes one thousand dollars (one !) - that is less than 700 quid - it was the only way he could get a fight and some exposure.

Ive been working my way through the Legendary Nights series from HBO,already watched 7 from yesterday,the last one i watched was Chavez-Taylor,i cant believe how bad Meldrick talks these days(and this got made in 2003)

Yep watched this morning and found it fascinating. Not sure what to make of it really. I found myself cursing Resto, then feeling for him and then cursing again. As for Panama, well......

Yeah, Resto seemed to be really apologetic and needed an end to to it all, Lewis didn't give a monkeys.

Thats me finished watching all the Legendary Night series,the last 1 was Gatti-Ward ,pretty emotional stuff,i watched a docu about Arturo's death and i didnt suspect foul play but those closest to him certainly did

Every single episode of the LN series is well recommended

Panama just seem like 1 of those pieces of shit who doesnt care about anyone or anything but himself,i did kinda feel sorry for Resto too but i shouldnt really have,he knew the crack,Collins Jr is the real tragedy of the whole story

I found the Gatti-Ward doc very interesting and moving at times. It was sad to see that Ward seemed to be slurring his words a bit and I felt it unnecessary to show a picture of Gattis body on the floor after he had died (the image of his wife smiling as she came out if court was also unpleasant).

The Owen documentary would bring a tear to anyone's eye - as said, the meeting between Owens dad and Lupe Pintor really tugs the heart strings.

Just watched it there,it was quite bleak and harrowing to watch,i didnt actually know a lot about the fight itself but it was great to see Owen put up a great fight and was troubling Pintos who was a great,great fighter,it was just a shame the language barrier got in the way of the families really getting things off their chest and say what they mean but they did seem to get closure so that was the main thing,all in all a touching piece though

Is this the guy that ran his car off the road after he got cheated in the ring? Didn't that Lewis character turn up in South Africa somewhere. I'm sure he was involved with a heavyweight there - i.e. still in the game. Shocking. I'll check it out.
There's a very good one on Youtube somewhere about Kostya Tyszu.

Last night I came across Pumping Iron on netflix. That was a lot of fun. I think it was largely fixed for Arnie to win though. Being introduced every time as "the one and only" kind of looked like there was a definite agenda going on, a status quo to be maintained - irrespective how how good the others were.
