Tyrone Sprong - a true prospect?

Post by Gnome »

The K1 champ Tyrone Sprong is 2(2)-0 in his fledgling boxing career, both wins coming via first round KOs against modest (but not disgraceful) opposition - 7-36 Hungarian Gabor Farkas and 10-5 German Emre Altintas - at heavyweight.

Is he a true prospect? Do you think he will go anywhere in the heavyweight division?

No.

But he's a very good MMA fighter/kickboxer.

I wonder if he'll be the same fighter if he goes back to kickboxing/MMA. The leg break against Saki was nasty and he hasn't fought kickboxing or MMA since. So much so I that wonder if him now embarking on a pro boxing career has anything to do with him not having faith in the leg. I think, prior to the injury he was hanging with the Blackzillans in Florida and looked like he was fixing to give MMA a serious go. The fact that he is now having pro boxing bouts in Germany is interesting.

Of course, all of the above is idle speculation.

He's almost 30 so I certainly wouldn't call him a "prospect".

Spong has some real talent and think he can become a very good heavyweight. It seems that he is more focused on being a multi sport athlete than being fully dedicated to one. Last i heard he had an mma fight coming up. But i really wish he would stick to boxing alone because he does have talent. Tyrone is very athletic and still young really.

He has certainly been fun to watch, the two fights I have seen from him. He has a fight coming up on the 15th of August, this time in Miami.
