Luke Campbell Chin...
Luke Campbell Chin...
Quick question for the experts....
Has Campbell been floored in the amateurs...
Anyone laying any bets down this weekend?

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Not heard of him being knocked down in the amateurs, I know he lost a few early fights, something like 6-6 at the start when he was 13-14 years old, so he may have a couple of stoppage losses there, but nothing in the seniors.
There was one pro fight he took a whack in the last round, not shaken but a bit wide eyed. He looks way to sharp for Coyle, but think it will be worth the watch.

Hmmm that was what I was thinking...
The only decent odds I have seen is Campbell to be knocked down and win...
Which it seems is unlikely.

I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.
I know the Hull angle is the whole point of the promotion but if coyle fought out of London or Birmingham then this would be seen as a chance for Campbell to get a few rounds in and nothing more.

Coyle is coming to win. He has punch on him.

Is anyone outside of Hull really THAT bothered about this fight, like you say outside of Hull it would be a mid card (prob first tv fight) decentish domestic fight.

I'm going to have a few sheets on Cambell to win. I can really see another result. I fancy him by stoppage, but not sure if it's worth the risk.

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Like I said, it will be the biggest attended fight in England this year, of course they're going to play on the local derby thing. It's a decent step up for Luke, but one he'll handle in style.ste1983 wrote:Spot on thatsquared circle wrote:I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
I think you're both being a bit harsh. Coyle is no journeyman. This will be Campbell's 12th fight. I think Coyle is a very decent and respectable opponent for this stage of Luke's career. Derry gets a lot of praise on this forum (rightly so) and Coyle was beating him quite clearly until that great stoppage.ste1983 wrote:Spot on thatsquared circle wrote:I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Despite having 9 stoppages in 11 wins, I'm not yet convinced of Campbell's power will carry to a higher level. His opponents to date have been extremely poor. Coyle is a step up, but is unlikely to ever progress beyond British level. Campbell should be able to box the ears off him. Be interesting to see how he takes a punch if Coyle lands flush, but I think Campbell should dominate and win via. TKO at sometime during the second half of the fight.

Ladbrokes 11/10 for the fight to not go beyond the sixth. Looks the bet to me.
Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
I agree Coyle is no way a journeyman hes a good domestic title level operator (which I have a lot of respect for). I'm just saying in my view this fight isn't a arena/out door event headliner (and only is because of the Hull thing) its an old Friday Fight Night headliner or middle of the card arena show fight...if that makes sense. A good domestic title level fighter coming up against an up and coming prospect whos expected (and should) go past that level.danamba7 wrote:I think you're both being a bit harsh. Coyle is too chinny for this. It's not lasting long IMO
Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Yeah that makes sense, but if you can play on the local rivalry and get 15,000+ outdoors then why not. This is why British boxing fans are the envy of many because we turn out in good numbers and produce great atmospheres. Whether they're true fans, casuals or first timers, they're still paying customers. There can't be many countries that could pull these numbers for a domestic level fight even with this so-called rivalry?ste1983 wrote: I agree Coyle is no way a journeyman hes a good domestic title level operator (which I have a lot of respect for). +1 for the spot-on interpretation,it`s exactly as I see it too,it`s all about levels and definitely Luke`s time to shine.squared circle wrote:I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.

Fair play to the promoters for making it appear to be more than it actually is,that`s an amazing crowd for an uncompetitive local derby.

I think it's a good step up, but similar to Whyte-Joshua in terms of actual fight difficulty for the favourite.rpms wrote:+1 for the spot-on interpretation,it`s exactly as I see it too,it`s all about levels and definitely Luke`s time to shine.squared circle wrote:I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.

And these kind of domestically interesting dust ups are far more interesting for the public than a fight of similar risk against an unknown foreign fighter.
Let's see more match ups like this - the Derby/domestic angle gives a value to the fight beyond money and risk.
Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Campbell inside three I reckon. Not sure of the odds but I'll stick a few quid on it on Saturday.
Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Exactly. And the media attention, press conferences, atmosphere etc will be good experience for Campbell. It will stand him in good stead when he steps up again.reggaereggae wrote:I think it's a good step up, but similar to Whyte-Joshua in terms of actual fight difficulty for the favourite.rpms wrote:+1 for the spot-on interpretation,it`s exactly as I see it too,it`s all about levels and definitely Luke`s time to shine.squared circle wrote:I'd love to think coyle could get close enough regularly enough to drag Campbell into the trenches but I fear you will see Campbell box his head off for 7 or 8 rounds, a "heroic" retirement from coyle's trainer on his stool, post-fight analysis about "levels" and they all kiss and make up and count their pound notes.

Campbell wins this but it isn't the walk in the park many people think. Campbell by decision.

I never said or meant coyle was a journeyman, clearly he is much better than that and is fighting at a good domestic level. But take the Hull angle away and this would just be seen as a good step up fight for Campbell - he is 1-10 on with skybet for the win as it is!!danamba7 wrote:I think you're both being a bit harsh. I can't see past how they both fought Brizeula (spelling??!!?) as the obvious form guide. Coyle was an amazing fight - with a very dodgy ending from Steve Gray - but Campbell just did a number on him.
Hope I'm wrong and its a great fight but I just can't see it being more than great atmosphere, great event instead.

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
I think this is a mismatch tbh. Coyle may have looked great against Derry, but he looked awful against Gethin & just seems way too fragile to last very long against the speed of Campbell.
Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
Coyle will try to box in and out as he did v Derry but will step into stiff southpaw shots, he'll be fed up by the end of the 4th but take his lumps till the 8th then he'll get stopped.

Re: Luke Campbell Chin...
I see it 2 ways, a brave Coyle works hard but ultimately Campbell's accuracy wears him down for a stoppage around 8-9 rounds.
Or Coyle gets knocked down early and Coyle follows up for quick stoppage in 2nd or 3rd.
Coyle has come back from being knocked down before, but if he gets caught cold early then Campbell is accurate to overwelm him.
