Next for Brook
Next for Brook
http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/the-top ... ell-brook/
This artical lists Provodnikov, Marquez, Maidana, Thurman and Bradley.
Well for starters I'd be surprised to see any of those names as his next opponent. For all of Brook and Hearns talk of taking a different route to the big fights I reckon they'll still play it safe waiting on the Khan payday.
But let's say those names are realistic.... How do we see Kell fairing in those 5 bouts? Each and every one would be a test in its own right. But has Kell got the beating of them all or are some of those guys all wrong style wise for Brook?

Re: Next for Brook
Provodnikov - Tough as old boots and game as they come, but he'll get pummeled all night. To brave for his own good, I've no interest in watching this.
Marquez - Would be a great name on Kell's record and is a very winnable fight at this stage of Marquez's career. Slim chance of it happening though. Think Marquez will have a farewell fight in Mexico and call it a day.
Maidana - I've heard Hearn mention Maidana as an opponent a few times and they seem pretty confident of getting the win. Maidana is a genuine dangerman for anybody in the weight class though. Huge puncher who always brings it. Out of the opponents mentioned this probably has the most chance of happening.
Thurman - Genuine 50/50 fight, which is why it has very little chance of happening. I'd maybe give Brook a slight edge. He's very smooth and calculated with his shots. Thurman is probably just as quick but very erratic and skittish, especially when under pressure. Was clearly hurt to the body in his last fight too, which was telling.
Bradley - Another 50/50 in my opinion. Due to Bradley's up and down performances in some of his bigger fights I think he's a bit underrated. But on his day he can be very effective and has a great engine. Can't see this one happening.

Honestly I'd be happy with any of these choices. Would be surprised if he faced any of them though tbh.

Re: Next for Brook
I'd love to see him in with Maidana, That fight guarantees excitement.
Re: Next for Brook
I'm going to say Diego Chaves.
Got a draw with Bradley ( yes Bradley did get screwed by the judges ) and is very cheap just look at his purses. Supposed to be him v Devon Alexander to determine Kells next mandatory but nothing seems to be happening with that.
There just isn't the money for some of the names being branded about IE Guerrrero Thurman etc. Kell will have to go over to USA to fight them and should do it sooner rather than later IMO.

Re: Next for Brook
I think he has the beating of all of them on his game. The most dangerous fights are Maidana and Thurman IMO. I like Bradley but I reckon Kell would beat him comfortably on points as he doesn't have much power. Out of all of them I'd love to see Maidana over here. That would be a big sell and as some others have said, guaranteed excitement.
Re: Next for Brook
Maidana is an interesting choice given his previous with Khan. Dangerous fight though as its one Maidana can win, and Khan would have ammunition for life.
Re: Next for Brook
Good shout that. It's extremely doubtful it will be any of the guys mentioned in this thread.Naandrew wrote:I'm going to say Diego Chaves.

At least Chaves has a bit of credibility after his (fortunate) draw with Bradley.
After the mandatory and the Gavin fight I've no interest in seeing Brook fighting somebody below his level, he needs a test.
Re: Next for Brook
His next fight is at Sheffield Arena in October, so do the maths from that. Heard someone mention Van Heerden

Re: Next for Brook
Another fighter on the level of Gavin and Ion, though looking at that top 15 he'd be far from the worst choice.gobbles wrote:His next fight is at Sheffield Arena in October, so do the maths from that. Heard someone mention Van Heerden
Re: Next for Brook
The top three would all be significantly smaller generally on fight night, Bradley much shorter. I'd like to see Thurman but he's not coming to England is he realistically? They've been hyping Maidana as a ppv-calibre match for over six months, primarily because he has a name and size-wise and in a style match-up Brook destroys him. Big reputation and Brook can look amazing beating him - he has to be their first choice.

Re: Next for Brook
Plotnikov would be the easiest fight there, hard sell to Britain and Amerucan public.
The Chaves fight seems to make the most sense.

Re: Next for Brook
i think with the style brook fights. any one in top welter weight division looks exciting

but the khan fight would be the best , it has spice . the fighters do not like each otherbrilo33 wrote:i think with the style brook fights. any one in top welter weight division looks exciting

Fair assessment.Webbo911 wrote:Provodnikov - Tough as old boots and game as they come, but he'll get pummeled all night. To brave for his own good, I've no interest in watching this.

Not sure you're being entirely fair to Provo though. I can see Brook getting the better of him and I agree Provodnikovs bravery might be his undoing but I'd be surprised to see Brook come out of it unscathed.
I don't think anyone other than Floyd could come away without a few bumps and bruises against Ruslan
Re: Next for Brook
How long can Brook stay at Welter - the way he has bulked up since Gavin. Yes, he has let his hair down but he must be boiling down a fair amount.
Re: Next for Brook
I just didn't like the way Matthysse (who's hardly slick) was clearly outboxing him at times. Brook is a big, fast welterweight with all the tools to give Ruslan a thorough beating.davie wrote:Fair assessment.Webbo911 wrote:Provodnikov - Tough as old boots and game as they come, but he'll get pummeled all night. I think Provodnikov can have success at lightwelter or welter, but only against certain types of opposition.
Call me a sadist but I wouldn't mind seeing him in with Rios.
Re: Next for Brook
Plotnykov lost last night so I doubt he'll still be in the top 15.PredatorHayds wrote:Plotnikov would be the easiest fight there, hard sell to Britain and Amerucan public.

Chaves would be a good choice looking at that least and I hope that it's not another Gavin or Ion type.
Re: Next for Brook
Chaves would be a tough one, not quite the marquee name but one I think Eddie could hype - tough fight though.
I thinj Thurman would be too much for kell.

Much better fight than Rios IMO Kell should win but I don't think he has it all his own way.

Re: Next for Brook
I feel a bit sorry for Brook.
He's a 'champion', but he's not 'The Man'.
Obviously Mayweather is the man at 147 & Brook is not going to get a fight with him any time before 2054!
Team Brook seem to be reduced to trying to lure the reluctant Khan into a big British showdown, or barrel scraping for the likes of No No Dan!
I'd love to see Brook fight any of the five aforementioned guys by the OP, because he needs to step up, but I can't see any of them happening.

Re: Next for Brook
The issue I mainly have is with the IBF.
They often have a merry-go-round of the same old fighters in mandatorys and eliminators.
I remember the turds that Hatton being lined up to face after he won the IBF - people like Ben Rabah - and in the end he vacated it, and I couldn't blame him.

Re: Next for Brook
He isn't as blown up as you think, his head has swollen up but he is still ticking over in the gym and over a 10/12 week camp with his team he gets into the right shape.stujones wrote:How long can Brook stay at Welter - the way he has bulked up since Gavin. 10-12 weeks leaves 17th - 31st October as the date for the fight
