cotto vs canelo

Post by man »

i have it close. very similar, composed styles.
not too many punches, both have solid defense.
close decision either way. my bet is canelo for
slightly more activity later in the fight.

I thought canello would win 18 months ago but I'm learning towards cotto now I think he'll out work Saul who can be a bit one paced

Right. A guy that lost clearly to Trout is gonna beat Canelo who has only lost to Floyd. Canelo has beaten Lara, Kirkland and Trout but a natural welterweight is too strong for him.

Got it.

Cotto iis looking really good lately and though he lost handily to Trout I think Cotto put up a much better fight v Floyd than Canelo did. It is a good stylistic match up and one I'm looking forward to it, I think Cotto will win but have been wrong before, you think Canelo will win and will have good reasons for thinking that. I'm not getting into silly and snarky posts about it.

Cotto has looked better than Canelo lately. GingerHead's stamina will be tested in this fight.

What ludicrous catch weight is this MW title being fought at?

No matter how many times you repeat it, and imagine it, and meditate on it, this fight will not be easy on either fighter.

You mean Cotto has looked devastating against one-legged Sergio and Geale's shell and Delvin Rodriguez? That's super impressive.

Canelo's last 2 fights were Kirkland and Lara. How would Cotto have looked in these fights?

Cotto is not Mayweather. He's not going to nuetralize Canelo with lightning fast counters, speed and great defense. Only Floyd has solved Canelo and Canelo has seen some damn good fighters. Cotto is going to box some but he's there to be hit and likes to trade....trading and being there to be hit against Canelo is not a good place to be. He is super strong and the combination punching is vicious.

He would have ktfo Kirkland.

I admit that Lara would be a matchup nightmare but it wasn't like Canelo had an easy night of it.

Cotto has more pop, skill, and experience than Kirkland, as well as a far superior chin.

You are selling Cotto short here. Canelo has stamina issues that could lead to disaster v Cotto.

For me, Canelo is a bigger, stronger, sturdier version of Cotto.

. . . And Cotto is a more experienced and skilled version of Canelo, with better stamina.

Canelo has plenty of skill and more than enough experience at this point. He's seen all styles. Canelo has poor stamina? Really? Looked to me like he got stronger as the Lara and Trout fights wore on.

The Canelo v Lara bout was (I thought) pretty tight and Kirkland had shown plenty of deficiencies and had been out of the ring and also was without his trainer and motivator Anne Wolfe. Though his last 3 opponents have been shop worn, Cotto has beaten them with style and ease and has said himself he is not a true middleweight.

Closer to the bout I'll come onto CS and we will have a friendly bet, diddy.

Don't alter my words. I did not say Canelo has "poor stamina." I said Cotto has better stamina.

Canelo has shown the need to take breaks and recoup in fights (including Lara and Trout). I believe that if his stamina had been optimum he would have finished off both Trout and Lara.

I want to make clear here that I am a fan of both fighters. I do have problems with Cotto's catch weight bullshit. But, who can fault either for their career paths. The fact that Cotto would get in the ring with Canelo at this stage is a testament to both fighters' spirit.

Canelo all day here. Cotto has been in a fair few wars too. Canelo is young and strong. I pretty much back Canelo against anyone who stands and trades with him.

Canelo by mid- late stoppage.
Cottos latest wins against a weight drained Geale and a champ with no knees.

I think it will be a close fight and favouring cotto, Geale is worn but his hands were fast and that was by far the most elusive, efficient cotto I've seen, very fluent in his movement and perfectly timed countering, his movement was from the toes up and his head wasn't in the same spot for more than 1 second, Saul loads all his punches which is very draining over 12 rounds, he had huge problems landing head shots on Lara for that exact reason, the difference between this fight and the Lara fight will be if Saul is limited to bodyshots, he will be countered to the head by cotto

I have Cotto using his quickness and fresh legs to win the early rounds. As Cotto tires though, i see Canelo racking up the middle rounds and either knocks Cotto out late or wins a close decision. Cotto has always had problems fading down the stretch in fights and I don't see that changing much at this age.

Canelo wins by TKO or KO after 9th round is my opinion.

I think Canelo barely beat Trout and lost to Lara, certainly gets far too much credit for 2 fights that a noticeable percentage of fans thought he lost.

Cotto lost to Trout but those scorecards were awful no way in hell was it that wide.

I like Cotto but he has to pressure effectively, if he does he can win.

I really do hope that Canelo gets the win in this one because that's the only way we get a unification bout with the winner of GGG/Lemieux. If Cotto gets the win, he never takes that fight.

Canelo has looked amazing in his last two fights. His combinations and power are much improved. I hope he finally shuts up the Cotto Fanclub here on this site.
