It's a joke in all sports. Like I said earlier providing your levels are below the allowable maximum for your particular sport, you can take PEDs and pass the tests with ease. Usain Bolt has been tested hundreds of times and never failed, yet the wave in his performances scream of PED cycling. There are several well know heavyweights who gain a suspicious amount of lean mass during the blocks of training leading up to their fights, they've all been tested and passed.
Also in many sports you're allowed two strikes for missed tests before any action is taken or anything can even be reported, no matter how suspicious the circumstances of the missed test are. I heard of one athlete literally locking themselves away when the testers turned up, but it still only counts as a first strike.

I used to wonder why athletes would be so stupid as to think they'd get away with it.

Then I'd hear their excuses , that again they think they can get away with - and after hearing the excuse I'd be in absolutely no doubt whatsoever that yes, they really are stupid to the core.

The PDF is worth a read. The evidence didn't look to good for Barry.

what a div, all that talent and he threw it away for nothing. there was a repeat of a doc on him on allegedly the other night...he could have gone to the top.

boxers simply shouldnt take any kind of shit that professes to be a chemical shortcut. make the weight through hard work, simples. if you cant you're at the wrong weight.

You would think so, it looks as though Dominic Ingle is no stranger to the weights room.

On the face of it the old "my drink was spiked" sounds a bit of a "dog ate my homework" kind of defence.

That's not true. If they think you avoided the test rather than just were not at home, it counts as a positive test. The same as if, after a fight or race, you are told to give a drugs test and you forget and go home, that's a failed test, not a missed test. Likewise, if you are an athlete and you have to gie your whereabouts for an hour every day, if you lie (ie you say you are at home but are in reality in France), it's a fail not a missed test

dont forget, this is a sport so serious about drug testing that it's number one athlete of the time said he wouldnt take a blood test because he was scared of needles.

a sport that even magazines giving their top fighters of the last 20 years name a man who tested positive for steroids as the number one. can you imagine lance armstrong or ben johnson being named as the best in their sports?

OK I was misinformed then, I was going on anecdotal stories from someone connected to a sport, I assumed that was the official line.

What was the reason given, if any, why Galahad hadn't fought since the fight in question?

Was this failed test public knowledge until the other day?

This really makes you think about any fighters that are relatively inactive!

I believe - as a GENERAL RULE - that the correct time to implent a ban should be from the date the fighter fesses up - or the date of the hearing. This would give the fighter an INCENTIVE to COME CLEAN.

I do not see the merits of allowing someone to reach a hearing and then tell them a big chunk of the ban has already been served - it is highly unlikely that the fighter would have had a contest for at least 3 to 4 months from the date of being copped anyway.

He was coming along really well...some good wins and nights on Channel 5....and might have got a slice of the profitable Frampton/Quigg action.
Be interesting to see how he serves his ban; stay in shape and have a rethink or drift away from the sport.

He is effectively suspended from the moment of the failed test. UKAD don't say anything until the appeal process has finished. The only reason it got out before was that Galahad spoke.
So his 2 year ban is backdated to the date of the failed test.

If you appeal and your appeal fails then it should be from the date your appeal fails imo. Bit harsh but then, don't take drugs.
Mind you, if anyone had a failed test but genuinely was innocent then I suppose it's better if the thing is backdated a bit.

Not really sure where I stand on a two year ban. Why two years? Is it the same in other sports for instance?

If he had failed since January it would be 4 years. Bans for first time offenders went up when the new WADA code was introduced. Bans are the same in every sport that signs up to the WADA code. They can get a reduced ban depending on circumstances or information, but that is decided by UKAD, not the Board. Sports themselves don't have any input so the process can stay independent. Most of the involvement UKAD will have in the Board is in helping with education and support for boxers.
