Hand Wraps
Has anyone tried gel handwrap gloves as an alternative to the traditional hand wraps?
Re: Hand Wraps
Yes. I like them under my mma gloves but not so much under my boxing gloves.
Re: Hand Wraps
They are very comfortable and good to stop the knuckle bruising but offer little support to the rest of the hand.
Re: Hand Wraps
Go for real hand-wraps. slightly padded gloves don't do the job that genuine handwraps do.... e.g. to hold all the bones in your hand together. I injured my hand for weeks about a year ago when I opted for the quick and easy gel 'handwrap' gloves. Was doing padwork with a guy who was also wearing a bodybag. Went for a body shot but the knuckle of my index finger caught his elbow and the rest of the hand kept on moving. If i'd been wearing handwraps, the impact would have been spread against the whole hand and my index finger wouldn't have been bent back. I've always worn real handwraps since then and have had no issues. Sure, they take a while to put on ... but you get much faster at that the more you do it.

Re: Hand Wraps
I kind of knew the answer before I posted. I'm just fed up of how long it takes to put them on, take them off and roll them up. I'm just very lazy. Thanks guys.
Re: Hand Wraps
Call me sad but I quite enjoy putting them on, kind of helps me get in the mood for training.
I wrap my hands as well as I can with standard wraps then have Rival slip on pad things that I pull over the wraps to protect my knuckles. Best of both worlds.

They're awful. They get pushed back by the inside of the glove and make your hands feel like they're being crushed.

Re: Hand Wraps
Out of interest I have a few question,
1. how long does it take to wrap hands?
2. Is it possible to do as good a job by yourself as it would be if you had someone else wrap them for you?
3. Do you need to wrap hands before using a heavy bag?
4. What's the best way to learn how to wrap hands properly?

Re: Hand Wraps
With handwraps 2-3 minutes. I use tape on top which adds a couple of minutes. With bandages as for a fight 10-15 minutes.azzman wrote:Out of interest I have a few question,

No you can't wrap them as well on your own as when someone else does the job.
Yes always use wraps when hitting the bag.
Trial and error. Everyone is different.
Re: Hand Wraps
Benelio's reply is exactly right. I learnt the same thing the hard way as I didn't put it down to the glove wraps straight away. I find it is the same with stretchy wraps; they can't keep all your bone hands in place under impact and that makes them very sore.
I double wrap my hands now. Traditional non-stretch wraps alone used to rub the skin off my knuckles sometimes I use a stretchy wrap first and a non-stretch over the top.
Imo
1 wrapping each hand should only take a couple of minutes tops.
2 just for sparring or bagwork I don't see why you can't wrap your own hands as well ad someone else so long as you have done it yourself plenty of times before.
3 you should wrap your hands before hitting anything with any force.
4 I'm sure there are YouTube videos to show you how to wrap hands but you can watch anyone then try and copy then tweak it to suit yourself better.

Re: Hand Wraps
I love putting them on, we all just sit round and gossip for ten minutes whilst doing it... Watching the pros do it, Jonp, Mick Marsden, etc, it's a work of art. Obviously, that's for a pro bout.
