Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Very easy night for Brook.
Better boxer and way bigger man than rios
Brook needs a big challenge and little rios is not it

I really want to know why no one will fight Brook? Khan is avoiding him like the plague.
Maybe we can see Brook in with Thurman soon.
Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Brook and Thurman are avoiding each other for the same reason, more so Brook avoiding than Thurman i believe. Both these guys are on the verge of the big paydays and to be honest even though to the more hardcore fan Brook vs Thurman is a fantastic fight, most casuals don't know too much about these guys yet. Brook wants Khan, a big name which means big dollars and way less risk than Keith Thurman.
Maybe we will see this fight a few years down the line once there's more money on the table.

Oh and brook wins a fairly comfortable pts decision against rios, very little interest in the fight to be honest.

1) he's good.tiny_acres wrote:

2) he's big at the weight, all the established division leaders have all come up from lower divisions/are at the arse-end of their careers.
3) he brings fvck-all money to the table.
What more do you need? Sounds like a recipe for steering well clear of him, imo (in the ultra-pragmatic boxing economics sense, like).
EDITED: for clarity.

I concur, this is the flipside to my previous post, Brook's not actually going out of his way to face a young big dude for relatively fvck-all money versus facing an older, smaller dude for vast heaps of dosh.Fatsam wrote:Brook and Thurman are avoiding each other for the same reason, more so Brook avoiding than Thurman i believe. Easy win for Brook. Only question is if he can stop Rios or not. I believe he will.

I understand. I just would want to get his title. But I know that's not how it works anymore
Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Last I read Rios vs Brook is doubtful now, due to team Rios being pissed off about negotiations.
To me it seems Brook is taking safe fights just like Khan to not mess up a bigger money fight.
Brook already turned down a chance to fight Thurman, and Khan won't fight him.
Hopefully we will see either Brook or Thurman vs Floyd in September.

Did he? An official offer?Badhusker wrote:Last I read Rios vs Brook is doubtful now, due to team Rios being pissed off about negotiations.

Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Not that I know of. He basically gave the same reason for not fighting Bradley 2-3 yrs back: “We want to build the fight with Bradley into a bigger fight” He thinks Thurman is a dangerous fight, but winnable, and needs to marinade a bit so its a bigger fight. I wouldn't call it a duck, just a side-step I guess.danamba7 wrote:Did he? Apparently the Rios fight fell through because Brook's team insisted on a rematch clause that team Rios wouldn't agree to.
Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Rios is a big guy, tough as nails and no way should you underestimate him.Happy Slapper wrote:I posted something in the British forum about what a joke match this is. Brook beats Rios handily every day of the week.
Rios is a career lightweight, has no pop at welterweight and was Pacquaio's gimme fight after getting KO'd.
If Rios wins a round, I'd be amazed. He won't get stopped though, as he is as hard as nails.
Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Rios is limited no matter how much of his undisciplined lifestyle he got under control. Brook doesn't have to have a perfect night to handle this guy, his size advantage will help a lot I bet because Rios has to get inside and work. Rios is a longshot, that doesn't equate to a top match up but any fight can be exciting so lets just hope for that.

Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
It would take Rios's best night to bother Brook the way Angulo was able to rough up Lara. I still think that Brook lands too many hard straight shots.Counter-puncher wrote:I'm sorry, I have tried to infer what you mean by this but after two sighs, one shake and three scratches of my head, I have no fvcking clue what you mean.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:If Rios had his best night, the fight would look like Lara/Angulo.

Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Sean Porter won a SLOPPY decision against Devon Alexander.
He then destroyed a (maybe shot) Paulie Malinaggi.
But whatever, I'll give Porter credit for both wins. His strength makes him look more impressive than he is. But, a Brook type fighter beats him 8 out of 10 nights.
If there was a line for Floyd, I think it would be Bradley, Thurman, Lara, Brook ... disagree?
Maybe even Garcia and Matthysse ahead of Brook.
Don't take this as me not thinking much of Brook. I think he should be KO'ing Khan in a big money fight, but Amir is Amir. I'd be more interested in Brook VS Garcia/Mattysse at this point.

Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Brook has the title and has talent. Unfortunately he isn't known by that many outside boxing circles.
He needs a big name on his record. Ideally I think he'd go for Marquez.
Rios ticks the right boxes for Brook.
The fight sells well in the Uk
It's a fight he should win.
Rios is credible after his Alvarado win.
It's a fight that american tv could potential show.
Brook is a good fighter. If he increases his profile in America I can see big fights probably in 18 months unless he fights and beats Khan. Then he's a star overnight.

I would rather see Roos vs Victor Ortiz. Their hatred for each other would make great entertainment. I doubt if they could make it past the weigh in before punches are thrown.

Re: Kell Brook vs Brandon Rios (September)
Fight officially won't happen. No agreement could be made between Top Rank and Brook's promoter, Eddie Hearn.
But Rios is still in line for some big fights, probably in October or November.
Under consideration for Bam Bam are new WBO welter king, Tim Bradley, former champ Jesse Vargas, or (in a bout I find most intriguing) Mr. Tough Guy, Ruslan Provodnikov.
A bout with Provo would feature two aggressive, fan-friendly brawlers with limited defense. It's another one of those matchups that has Fight of the Year potential if it comes to fruition.

Rios is fighting Bradley (if HBO gives enough money) or Provo.
