To me he hasn't looked nearly as effective when he's inside with an opponent and has to significantly tighten his shots up (whereas Lemieux is most effective here), and I think DL may actually be the least vulnerable if he can find his way inside and stay there--to borrow a metaphor used by someone else to describe it, it may be safest for him in the eye of the storm.
There you are describing something that Ward could do. But Lemieux isnt Ward and dont have those skills. If he gets close he will get hit.

I dont think those examples count as vulnerable. When someone comes at you and throws punches at you it always takes time to put them in place. Look at this weeks Parker fight, before he landed that murderous right he looked quite bothered. Anyone thinking GGG can be seriously troubled by pressure should watch Proksa fight. Of course a better and stronger fighter could do a better job, but I dont think we have seen it. Also, when Stevens went in the shell after KD, GGG dropped his guard and invited the attack, took few heavy blows, brushed them off and tear him apart. This is to say he is prepared to take big punches and Lemieux cant rely on one big punch for win.

So, even tough I am excited by the bout, I cant see much hope for Lemieux in this.
To me they are clearly examples of people increasing their success by adopting a relatively aggressive approach rather than being cautious on the outside. GGG has never looked like he was on the verge of losing or was seriously trouble, so I think opponents need to focus on how others have maximized their success against him, and I believe that it has been done fairly consistently by fighting fire with fire and getting inside his optimal punching distance.

Ward is a better fighter than Lemieux and would likely be more effective than him on the inside, but I don't think it's far-fetched that Lemieux can get in close and smother GGG at times. He probably won't be able to do it well enough to win, but in my view it gives him his best chance.

If Lemieux cautiously backs off or doesn't try to prevent GGG from unloading at mid-range I think the odds of him having success will drop significantly, even if he ends up lasting longer while taking a beating.

Well said Crusader.

Mid-range is where guys like Golovkin and Canelo destroy guys, their favorite distance... Lemieux is not going to get good results there. He has to back GGG up, or just plain catch him napping.. honestly a good short left hook inside is the only shot I see DL doing damage with, he isn't as smart or as skilled as Gennady but landing with his kind of power can change things in a hurry. This should be a fun fight while it lasts.

Good fight.

Interesting fight and a test for both guys. How does Ortiz fare against a guy generally ranked in the top ten? Can Stiverne impressively beat a contender other than Arreola or will he prove to be something of a one-opponent wonder?

I still think that boxer puncher style gives the best chance for Lemieux. Stay outside, work behind the jab and try to take advantage of GGGs defensive lapses when he brings his "Mexican style" along. Canelo v Angullo, Frampton v Kiko, Lukas vs Provod should be the blueprint. If he opens up on GGG he will get taken out.

Ortiz/Stiverne is a great fight. I would strongly favor Ortiz to win.

I agree - perhaps Lemieux isn't the most skilled inside fighter, but the closer he stays to Golovkin, the better his chances are IMO - of both surviving and doing some damage of his own.

No disrespect to the fighters you mentioned, but GGG is no Angulo, Kiko or Provo

True, that is why I have GGG as a big favorite. But he like to take chances and I believe the best option for Lem is to try and capitalize on that.

I don't personally think he'll be taking the chances we've seen him take in his previous two fights, could make a very entertaining fight if he does though :box:

Sucracristo

I'm responding to your post July 26th, reason is I can only post 3 quotes before starting a new post.

For starters mate are you accusing me of not watching the fights ?
Because I may miss an interview doesn't mean I didn't watch the fight or fights.
When I ask you who he has called out is my way of showing the entire board exactly WHO won't fight GGG.
It's not an attack on GGG, on the contrary it's putting everyone in line and showing that GGG may have been avoided.
You have got the wrong end of the stick entirely.
I'm trying to do the guy a favour and enhance his career not in any way diminish it.
Get it yet :TU:
Read between the lines a little bro or if I have to literally spell it out for you I'll make a note of it in the future.

Ok the undercard is shaping to become an AMAZING one, if these fights get materialized.

Roman Gonzalez vs Brian Viloria
Luis Ortiz vs Bermane Stiverne
Sadam Ali vs Timothy Bradley (Very unlikely but POSSIBLE)
