Mayweather vs Berto
Bit of an underwhelming choice of opponent. Will be interesting to see what sort of business it does. I think Floyd has gone for the soft option here. Khan, Garcia, Brook or Thurman would have given him a much tougher time.

I'm gutted that it isn't Soto Karass.

Re: Mayweather vs Berto
Surprised it has ended up on PPV. Not sure how Showtime could have approved this one. Will surely be the lowest number of buys a Mayweather PPV has done since pre De La Hoya.
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
Groves v Jack and Martinez Salido 2 on the undercard is good though. Floyd is 1/100 so that says it all regarding the main event.
With Groves on its it could be sky after all matchroom have a show that day.

Awful fight. Wonder which channel will show it over here. Something tells me there won't be much of a bidding war for this one...
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
ANYONE REALLY SURPRISED? He will always, rightly or wrongly, depending on your view have allegations of cherry picking his opponents or cherry picking weight or whatever.
for these reaosns he doesnt make my all time top ten list.

Top 20 - most likely, top 30 - definitely.
Too many things his own way, and unfortunately, his best opponent fought 5 years too late.
Still a very very good career, and a fighter who might actually be even better than his record suggests.
A win over Pacquaio in his blazing prime, would probably have pushed him up my list quite a bit, maybe top 15 - but then I wonder whether it could ever have happened, I certainly don't think Arum was keen, and not convinced Pacquaio was either. Boxers know just how special other boxers are.

It's PPV is it - well, not one I'll invest in.johnswan1 wrote:Surprised it has ended up on PPV. Not sure how Showtime could have approved this one. Will surely be the lowest number of buys a Mayweather PPV has done since pre De La Hoya.
I suspect this one will do very poor numbers. After how terrible the last fight was, and with a poor opponent, this won't be getting snapped up, unless it's a very cheap PPV.
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
My guess is that it will do fine. Look at how opponents like Ortiz, Guerrero, Grandpa Mosely, Mini Marquez and the limited Maidana were marketed.
Thrown in this idea of a 50-0 record.
Floyd's really a projection for a certain type of person's fantasies about being able to be actively ignorant, violent to women, racist and still have 20 cars and a private plane.
That's not going away just because Berto's his dance partner.

It's PPV in the US, I can't see it being PPV here, although it could well do a record low if it was. Not sure Mayweather has realised what a complete letdown the Pacquaio fight was - every casual fan I've spoken to who purchased that fight was really pissed off with it & wouldn't dream of paying to watch Floyd again, let alone at 5am against an opponent they won't even have heard of.jamesmcdonnell wrote:It's PPV is it - well, not one I'll invest in.johnswan1 wrote:Surprised it has ended up on PPV. People can say what they want about Amir Khan. The Truth Is Floyd Mayweather Never Fancied The Fight. The Recent excuse Khan been saying too much. Please!!!!! Remember the online poll with Khan And Maidana. Whoever wins poll gets fight.Khan wins poll and Mayweather swerves him. Floyd aint a banger. Khan as quick as anyone. Nassem Hamed will be gutted he didnt make the Mayweather fight in 1998. Mayweather on You Tube Back then asking for it.Hamed in Prime would have beat a young mayweather everyday of the weekand twice on sundays.
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
Floyd is a brilliant master boxer but a pr8ck of a man
he avoided khan as khan has speed and could easily beat him
I think khan beats Floyd
brook beats khan but
Floyd schools brook
?strange?

Re: Mayweather vs Berto
Disappointed with Berto as the opponent but overall the card is better than what it is usually for a Mayweather bill, so i'll be watching.

It may not sit well with some people but the simple fact is that Khan doesn't bring anything additional to the table and wants a bigger slice of the money.charliebox324 wrote:People can say what they want about Amir Khan. I'm no fan of this fight in particular but then again, i'm not a fan of the recent hitlist of Khan barring Devon Alexander. Algieri, Alexander, Collazo, Diaz, Molina since being sparked by Garcia hardly shows that he is working hard to get the big money fight.
If he had tried to sell himself in the UK and got himself some big PPV numbers over here like Hatton did then maybe he would be in with a better shout but he hasn't and would want parity on the UK PPV as a minimum (i would guess) when Mayweather has outsold him twice on UK PPV.

Re: Mayweather vs Berto
Precisely, Khan acted like if he just hung around long enough, fighting poor opposition, he'd get his shot. Fact is Mayweather has earned the right to pick and choose at this stage of his career, if Khan wanted his shot, he needed to make a case as to why he wanted the money he thought he deserved - he could have done this by fighting Brook, itself a big fight, but turned it down, instead fighting Algieri, which was a complete waste of time.freddydoesdallas wrote:It may not sit well with some people but the simple fact is that Khan doesn't bring anything additional to the table and wants a bigger slice of the money.charliebox324 wrote:People can say what they want about Amir Khan. Khan's shod his was now, I don't see Floyd fighting on beyond 50-0 - and he's not going to fight Khan in the last fight of his career, when he probably somehow convince people to pay to see a Pacquaio rematch, and bow out on a humungous payday.

I think this will do disappointing numbers relatively speaking.
Berto is probably worse than anyone else on that list at the stage they fought him, except possibly Mosley who really was getting on.
Also after the terrible Pacquaio fight, I'm not sure people particularly want to watch him fight right now or certainly not to pay for the privilege. His fights, let's face it, have all the tension of a wet noodle.
Sure, there's some Floyd fanboys who aspire to his perceived lifestyle, but I wonder how many of them actually buy PPVs?
Is Floyd racist? It's news to be if he is.

James, I remember many years ago debating the DLH fight with you... That ended up a snoozer with many friends of mine (casual fans)saying it was the biggest sporting let down they could remember. It didn't stop Floyd making all kinds of money.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

It won't be as big a seller as many of his fights but he'll make plenty out of it.
I agree though that people really ought to turn away...I just don't think they will.

Compared to the Pacquaio fight though, the DLH fight was like Gatti Ward, at least it was competitive, Pacman wasn't (despite the protestations of delusional Pactards) in the fight at all.....
I guess people really are dumb, and you're probably right.
I do think however, this is just to mark time, get him closer to 50-0 and then cash out in a huge rematch with Pacquaio, though that of course is reliant on Pacquaio having a fight beforehand and proving he still has enough left to bullshit people into buying yet another PPV.

He could have been up there with Ray Leonard but just switched to a safety first style about ten years ago which is just dull when you do it fight after fight.
I think his choice of opponent for his last fight pretty much sums him up.
Re: Mayweather vs Berto
The Berto fight leaves me cold and also wondering whether Amir is chasing a bit of an illusory rainbow...
......the fight has been 'on the cards' and the 'teams have been talking' for ages now, all very positive vibes, but the end result is that Amir does not get the fight and continues to obediently wait on Mayweather. We got lots of chatter about a super-fight at Wembley but that was clearly hot air.
Amir's not getting any younger and I really do think he could do himself a major favour and have a big, profitable and meaningful stadium fight with Kell Brook rather than patiently standing outside Floyd's office.

Definitely agree on the last part. I'm sure khan is a wealthy man but has he ever been involved in a really big money making fight. In 10 years he might be sat their moaning about how he could have beat floyd etc and people will always say (based on today) that he was never truly world class or even the best welter in Britain.Bodyshot3 wrote:The Berto fight leaves me cold and also wondering whether Amir is chasing a bit of an illusory rainbow...

If he fought brook and won he would at least have that and a big fat cheque!
