Fact or Fiction

Post by KBB »

Many threads here with people who hate Floyd and only wanting to see him get KTFO are complaining of Berto as the choice as his opponent but the fact of the matter is that there has always been "Buddy Fights" but many are acting as if Floyd is the first or only fighter to do this.

Add the list of those fights here that you know were Buddy Fights :

Rod Salka vs Danny Garcia
Leo Santa Cruz vs Jose Cayetano
Chris Byrd vs Davarryl Williamson
Winky Wright vs Ike Quartey

KBB, I have no problems with Floyd taking a buddy fight like this with Berto. He's had a pretty darn good stretch of tough fights and easy fights seem to be the norm with Haymonized fighters. If anyone deserves an easier fight in boxing, it's Floyd. It still doesn't deter me from wanting him to get knocked out cold by Berto hoping that he takes the fight too easy and doesn't prepare well enough. But, we all know that won't happen. Floyd will prepare harder than ever and I honestly think he'll get the knockout in this one. He hasn't had one in a long time and that's not because he doesn't have power, it's because he's fought the best fighters in the world. The same thing with Manny. People keep knocking him for the power drought but they are not taking into consideration they class of fighters both these guys are going against two times a year. Knockouts don't mean shiiit when you are fighting at this level.

Floyd? The more power to him. I love Berto's style of fighting. He's got decent power and quickness and had tremendous heart. So I really do like this fight a lot stylistically. Way better than Algieri/Manny IMO.

No one is acting like Floyd's the first to do it. Fans are just disappointed because they want to see the best fight the best every time out. It's not practical anymore, but it's what they want.

Crap fight, period, for the P4P #1. Rationalize it every which way you like. Put your favorite condiments on it. Close your eyes and click your pink high heels together and chant "it's only a buddy fight." You are still being fed feces and being asked to pay for it.

Give up.

Algieri is significantly better than Berto.

I agree that it's a crap fight but if you are a true boxing fan then you will be interested no matter what you may have already precluded the outcome to be.

I remember when no one i know wanted to see Tyson vs Douglas but everyone who did were glad they didn't miss it.

Floyd is simply being charitable to an old friend, yes it's still a BS fight but I'm sure everyone should be able to understand helping out a friend.

Do you realise if every boxer used this logic we'd never see a good fight again?

Did not know they were old buddies, interesting twist. The fact Berto has been through so much in life it makes more sense now than it did before. Honestly I don't think this is Floyd's last fight anyway, it's far too easy for him to take 7 rounds against anyone, which is all he has to do.

I wouldn't have a problem if the fight was not ppv.
But Floyd is being a total dickmunch fighting Berto and expecting anyone yo pay for it.
Does he deserve an easier fight?Sure why not? But to expect people to pay for a ribeye dinner when they are
being fed bologna is horseshit.
No one can defend this being a ppv fight.

Maybe at the time but in hindsight, Algeri's record is shaping up to be a lot better than Berto's. He's had fights with Ruslan and Khan that could've went either way. Didn't get KO'd by Pacquiao nor Khan. Berto got KO'd by Sotto Karrass and dominated by Guerrero.

Berto had the hype but Algeri earned his stripes the hard way. He may not have the power nor speed but IMO he's much better than Berto.
