Surely at some point boxers will realise it's in their best interests to try and set up some sort of union?!?!?
I don't think you 'leave' Alex Morrison, going from what I've read about him when Gary Jacobs tried to walk away from him and join Duff.

I'd bet my next salary that Liam is winding down his contract and that fwank knows full well he is. Hence all the crap opponents for pointless titles. There is no investment in Liam. Why ? Cos he'll be off.

True and I would imagine if Liam's mind was not yet made up to move, this would do it - the bit about Paul now owing somebody 47k I mean.
Paul owing Warren money is down to him and his lawyers, they tried to take a dispute over a managerial contract that clearly said that all disputes will be handled by the British Boxing Board of Control into court. Unsurprisingly the court threw it out, said that jurisdiction remained with the board and ordered Smith to pay Fwank's legal costs. The case also named Jamie McDonnell and Dennis Hobson, so I presume that McDonnell now has to pay Hobson's costs too.

Liam's always been clear that he's his own man and he'll decide what's best for his career, if anything it shows him that he shouldn't try and get into a legal battle with Warren. If he wants his world title fight he'll stick around for a while yet.
He'd be better off with his brothers at matchroom. If fwank delivers a world title fight, he would put a contract extension in front of him first and effectively Liam would be tied to the channel. If you have to sign a deal you are better off on sky.

Regardless of why Paul owes the 47k, it doesn't take a genius to work out who's face will be on the family dartboard in the smith household. That was the point I was trying to make.
It hasn't really gone well for Stephen since he made the switch and Paul tried to break his contract and is now out of pocket, I don't think he'd necessarily be better off unless he's going to be top priority there. World title fight at home on allegedly that he has a great chance of winning, then defending it, or undercards on Sky then sent abroad for a world title fight. There's no chance of him getting the vacant WBO title fight if he's with Matchroom and there's enough quality fighters at the weight for him to get frozen out of the title picture.

I was surprised at how fwank dealt with him, he slated him and ridiculed him publicly, and took him to the cleaners legally and financially. In fairness to fwank he didn't hold back due to morrisons alleged reputation. You have to hand it to fwank he really will go after anyone

He's been shot and left for dead, ruined financially and come back to make a fortune - I doubt he'd know how to be intimidated.

Yah, I can imagine he does know a few bad lads but he said 'No' to Mike Tyson on his own and got a crack so he must have some balls himself, I bet Tyson hadn't heard 'No' for years.

interesting, I never knew he'd been bankrupted - or ruined financially (sorry if my interpretation was incorrect there Fwank :TU: )...........

thing about promoting, I don't understand how someone becomes as eminent as Fwank - to be the standout candidate in his field, with barely anyone on a similar sort of level. If it was brain-surgey or rocket-science or athletics or whatever, I could understand it, but it's a long way removed from those things. You swank about in a suit, say banal comments, book out a leisure centre - until you move on to larger venues - make some posters, flog a few tickets. I mean look at Eddie Hearn, he's just following after his Dad. Good luck to the fella and all but I just do not see any extraordinary skill-sets in any of these individiuals.........Barry Hearn, I do like - he's innovative and he's 110% behind himself. Fwank - I could see how you could build up your contacts/ "profile" - and more importantly your bargaining power over a number of years.

Wasn't he in up to the neck in Canary Wharf? I think fortunes were lost and made depending on when they got involved.

If I won the lottery I reckon I could be a good promoter but then I'd not have to turn a profit, I think that's where the knack is.

I think there's very little room at the top-table, or trough, depending on your viewpoint in boxing promoting - and ironically I would say that it's actually the boxer's ability and the boxer's following that will ultimately do the business - literally.

Who really knows how it works. The MAIN sanctioning bodies regularly leave fans at a loss and even despondent with their peculiar ways. The whole shebang to me sounds like one big dirty case of who you know. Murky. I do remember reading that small-hall promoters generally run at a loss. I remember David Garside - in the BM I believe, saying that he was operating at a loss whilst he was building Michael Hunter up. I suppose the dream is that you get one that goes all the way and start to make some decent cash.

Burns bass been a pro for donkeys years and had an Indian summer to his career, if he wanted to be financially set through his efforts then of course he'd listen to other people and take advice. My mind boggles that a lawyer would advise him to jump ship of he were under a contract, the lawyer ought to be made to explain their advise, Burns can't be faulted really, Warren will have made good money off his back and I imagine his home is bought and paid for and he's no worries for retirement - let's be clear about it, Mr Warren has risked money while the boxers have risked their health and lives.
To be fair, my pals who've boxed on his show say he pays better than Eddie.

I thought that Eddie / Matchroom had a reputation of being the best payers (and also that they do actually pay!).

Depends what level you're at. Opponents in the wrong corner on the undercard get paid in cash on the night.

I thought there were board rules on purse payments that Warren had allegedly broken on multiple occasions?

Board rules say any purse up to £5k (I think, couldbe £3k) must be paid in cash on the night, and anything over this has to be paid within seven days.
