Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
IBF featherweight world champion Lee Selby has signed a deal to work with boxing advisor Al Haymon. Haymon will work as an advisor to Selby, who will continue to be managed by Chris Sanigar. Speaking on the agreement, Selby said, “I’m delighted to have signed with Al Haymon and I’m looking forward to boxing in some massive fights ahead. I’m also pleased to continue with Chris Sanigar, who’s been with me since the start of my pro career. It’s exciting times ahead and I can’t wait for my first world title defense.”
Selby’s manager Chris Sanigar added “Lee has been based out in the USA for his last five training camps and it was always our ambition longer term for Lee to box in the USA as well as at home in the UK.”
There will be news of Lee Selby’s first defense of his world title coming soon.

Hope it works for Selby, he came across as a really decent lad on the documentary and he's a very good fighter, he deserves the big stage.
Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
Does this mean he's still with Matchroom and Haymon is just an "adviser" or is Haymon now acting as his promoter?
Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
Yes off what Hearn has said on Twitter.

I expect Jamie McDonnell to be another who has this arrangement of essentially being co-promoted. There's huge fights for Selby and McDonnell in the U.S. with Haymon on board.

Good luck to Selby and Sanigar.

Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
And hopefully signing with Haymon is a sign that he actually wants them. Would be a shame to see someone with that talent sit on the title and have 3 or 4 soft defences.veriton wrote:yes really good article that. good lucky to selby, he's the real deal and deserves the biggest fights.handsofstone wrote:I read the piece on Sanigar in this months BM,very good article and just confirmed what i thought about Chris, that he's one of the good guys of British Boxing
Any of the other top Featherweights with Haymon?
Could Selby V Frampton be on the cards?

Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
Puts Lomachenko and Walters out of the question, but lots of big fights out there though.
Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
We predicted it did not we. Now lets give him some cherries for the next at least one year and a half.

Re: Selby Signs Deal with Al Haymon
I can see him maybe having a couple of run-outs against nobodies in the short term on PBC , as Haymon primarily uses freeview to build profiles.
Or he might stick him on a showtime undercard. I think there's more diversity in America at that weight class than in Europe, always has been.

A boxer's career is short and without them all the promoters, managers and advisors would be looking for other employment. In essence, they all work for the boxer.
Good look to Lee, I hope it works out for him.
