Mike, what you think of the judging in the finals?
And how come Russia had a full team?

judging in a few fights was off eg 52kg and overall seemed to be slightly pro Russian

Russia didn't ratify there places from the euro games which meaned they were aloud send a near full squad apart from 56kg where they took that place. I didn't like that at all because it meant that some unlucky boxer could have drawn a Russian early on in both tournament and not got through while a lesser boxer could end up qualifying weakening the competition

Russia also shot themselves in the foot too because qualified fighters at 69kg,81kg and 91kg+ in the euro games but didn't rafity these places and then at the European games they had the miss fortune of there fighters losing early

eg Nolan beat Buteav, Ward hammered Shakimanov and omarov more than likely got robbed against the Bulgarian

I think the Russians will learn there lesson, send there best team first time and then pick up the pieces in the next tournament in the weights where there guys don't qualify. They were too cocky and now only are sending a team of 6 boxers to the world championships which is very poor for a country of there strength. They now have no representive at 52kg,69kg,81kg and 91kg+

Thanks. What about the case of Barnes qualified and Irvine chasing a spot, has Paddy nailed it for himself or fot Ireland? Very confusing(To Me!)!!

This qualification business is very confusing-one day I will sit down and read through it.I didn't see much wrong with the judging but I wasn't giving it my full attention.
I didn't hear Woodhall really disagreeing with the decisions and he is one of the best judges around.
The McCormack brothers look real talents and will be up there if they stay amateur.

apparently you win the qualification place in a weight class for your country but if Irvine was to now qualify there would be a box off I guess

Is it fair to say that in a full Euro competition, Barnes, Conlon, D O Joyce, O'Reilly and Ward would be fancied?

Barnes would almost certainly win and the others would probably win or go close. There are some boxers who were missing Aloyan,Ivanov,Sotomayor,Medshidov,Bagirov,Selimov,Nikitin,Kilici to name a few who would also be Gold Medal contenders.
We wont see them all together until RIO16.
