Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
I know that the answer is probably "no" but I was just thinking that if I was a pro boxer, i'd want to see what people are saying about me. I don't know of a better boxing forum out there than BoxRec so why wouldn't they jump online and see what chumps like us are saying about them. What do you think? No better way to find out what people think then read up on what the passionate fans have to say so why not?
Or is it just a virtual ring that nerds like us without any talent to get in the ring can slug it out through a keyboard? Just curious.

Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
Maybe. I know Mayweather for example is a PR freak and dealt with some low level guys before, I can;t remember specifically but i'm sure he's put stuff out via FightFloydHype to dispell some stuff going around on various forums. Not to mention i'm sure he might be Brut/KBB or at least a cousin of Brut/KBB
You'd expect boxers more so than other sports stars to be more in touch with social media given their schedules, a lot of 'sitting around time' i'd certainly be monitoring my image and engaged heavily in social media.

Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
I think it's highly likely, although known sportspeople these days are more likely to use something more personalised like Twitter where they remain in control.
I know there are a few boxers who posted on the British scene over the years - two of whom are Scousers Paul Smith (just lost to Ward) and Tony Bellew (lost to Stevenson). Smith stopped posting years ago, while Bellew seemed to disappear after the Stevenson fight. There are quite a few journeymen and lesser known names on there too in addition to other people involved in the sport such as trainers, cornermen, promoters etc.
Unfortunately in most cases where a real fighter reveals his identity he will be harassed or baited by some of the known troublemakers / attention seekers, while others don't like to be argued with (regardless of how legit an opposing view is) and will follow the "what would you know, have you ever boxed?" approach before going off in a sulk.
I raised a post not dissimilar to this recently about the relevance of forums, but it didn't lead to any sort of discussion.
Anyway, the British Scene forum is generally more insightful than the Current Scene. That's not intended as a slate, I use both, but there is a lot less reasoned discussion on the Current Scene which is plagued by attention seeking idiots like the Novelist guy. Plus I've never heard of any genuine boxing insiders who reside on the Current Scene forum.

Kell Brook made 5 or so posts in the British and Irish section a few years ago, and although he hasn't posted in a while I still regularly see his account ("special K") on the list of users currently online, with his profile page indicating that he was active yesterday.
At least 2 of his opponents have been on here too, as Frankie Gavin regularly posted in the B & I section while Carson Jones occasionally posted in the CS.

Posted in CS. Not big timers or anything but good pro boxers nonetheless. Don't see him post lately. There is another guy who was posting on here about 2 years ago, forget his name. from the states. kept saying how he had potential but turned into a tomato can?Tanzio wrote:Interesting. But I can tell you with certainty that pro boxers do read this forum:box:

I kind of doubt the top boxers in top 10 of their own divisions take their time to read here but it wouldn't surprise me too much. From the sounds of it, Floyd or people from his team regularly read BS.

Have seen a few fighters post on boxing forums. Chauncy Welliver and Darnell Wilson are two who come to mind.
No doubt the odd one would post under a name that doesn't reveal who they are too.

Most of the posts on CS are well thought out ideas or opinions that are informative but then there are the posts where people run out of things to say so they call people "idiots" or "stupid" like they are 6. I can see Pro Boxers no wanting to sit through that crap. If I were a pro boxer, i'd post a subject i'd like to get an opinion on for sure. Heck, i'd be on this site all the time.
What about Promoters? Do you think they peruse the site on occasion to get some feedback? If they don't, they are missing some good intel imo.

Hilarious. I actually accused KBB of being Leonard Ellerbe the other day but i like your theory better.

I think both boxers and promoters deffo keep an eye on public opinion. Most of it will probabky be twitter though. I've engaged in a couple of tweets with guys like Roach, LLewis, Fat Dan so pro fighters are never too far from fan opinion imo.

Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
Way more boxers check out Boxrec than people realize. The ratings database draws tons of boxers to the sight and then many of them browse what people are talking about.
Chauncy Welliver, Galen Brown, Jason Barnett, and Rob Calloway have all been active posters using their own names. Shannon Briggs was on here before. Quite a few lower level guys from Arkansas have been posters here. Jordan Shimmell's dad posts here. I joined up here in 2005 with this name after meeting Emanuel Steward and he was familiar with the site back then. Michael Kirby is another guy I have seen posting on here quite a bit with his own name. I'm sure many others just browse or post under names other than their own. If the forums were more active you'd probably see many more boxers posting but boxrec is actually very slow in terms of posting when it comes to boxing forums. But no matter what site people post on about boxing they also always use the Boxrec rankings. When it comes to actually clicking on the site and checking out the ratings, there are at least several hundred active boxers on the site every year as well as tons of others from the sport. Donnell Holmes was another on here.
I also caught Lennox Lewis using the sight anonymously in the past to research for his announcing gigs. There were a few times many years back that he directly stole my opinions I was posting here and rehashed them on TV broadcasts nearly word for word. So that is how widespread some posts here can get. You never know who will be reading. I also had announcers from Australia for the Lucas Browne vs Chauncy Welliver fight directly referencing posts I made here about Chauncy Welliver's streak of never going down and his granite chin. They were hoping Browne could break the hyped up streak, but of course, he failed. And of course, they were talking about me as I'm the only damn guy in the world that goes around hyping up Chauncy Welliver and his #3 all time HW round streak without going down. He'll be going for #2 all time in a couple days as he looks to pass Oliver McCall and move closer to catching George Chuvalo for #1 all time.![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
Oh Fat Dan, that turd. On Twitter he blasted me telling me that I was stupid because "all pro boxing ring dimension are the same for every bout and ring sizes do not differ". This is a guy that does this for a living and he doesn't know that ring sizes are part of negotiations for big fights? No wonder why he still has a webcam from 1999 for every one of his remote telecasts. I'd take Brian Campbell over him any day of the week.Ricky_ wrote: I think both boxers and promoters deffo keep an eye on public opinion. Most of it will probabky be twitter though. Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
I still think we never got Pacquiao vs Cotto II because of fans disinterest on boxing chat forums. I thinj it was late 2010 or early 2011. But then again Miguel said no catchweight what so ever. I think Floyd himself reads and possibly posts on the bigger boxing forums for fun i think. I still remember Leonard Ellerbe saying how there was an article on BS that stated Canelo would agree to a catchweight. Most read these sites I think anyway. But if I was a top level boxer i think id stay away from boxing sites so i wouldnt hear all the negative remarks. i remember hearing shawn porter posted on another forum but stopped posting due to constantly being criticized.

I hope so,that might give them great ideas!
Re: Do you think that Pro Boxers read these posts?
Back in the mid 1990s I wrote a post on one of the early forums and I dissed Don King really badly.
I got a response that was very eloquent, used really "big" words, was almost overly polite but still condescending.
I still question to this day, whether it was Don King who responded back to me. It likely was not, but whoever it was he had the Don King style down tp perfection.
Maybe Don King did respond to me?

Probably wouldn't be too hard to get a response form that washed up bum now, he'd be grateful for the attention.

If they're not reading themselves you can bet someone's doing it for them.

Do you think that Pro Boxers read?
I don't mean that in an insulting way because I don't place too much value in literacy.
But, I think there is a good percentage of athletes/people who don't read in general.
