He won against Charr and went 12 rounds with hard hitting Teper . So yes , its not so bad opponent . He is better than Eric Molina.

A big average heavyweight with a controversial win over Charr in his last fight and
a loss to Teper.
Average power.Average speed.Average skills......Perfect opponent for Wilder.
If he can not look good against him.He has more issues than anyone here thought.

Duhaupas wouldn't be a terrible opponent and I prefer him to Hughie and Wawrzyk, as he's more proven than each of them and seems to have a respectable chin, but I wouldn't consider him a good challenger either. He lost to current EBU champ Erkan Teper a few months ago, lost his biggest step up before that against EBU level Pianeta, and in his career best win (probably his only win of note) he won a very competitive match with Manuel Charr, another fighter whom I consider better suited for EBU fights than for world title bouts. Those results show a ceiling clearly below world class to me, and while I think he'd be a good test for top upcoming fighters like AJ and Parker, each of whom I'd expect to beat him, I think he's an underwhelming opponent for someone already in the top 3-5 who has an extensive history of fighting soft opposition.

Moreover, given his lack of power (hmmmmm), somewhat negative style, and tendency to be spend large periods of fights moving around the ropes and taking respite there, I don't think he has a style or any particular attribute to make the fight interesting. So if this fight happens next we go to Wilder's 35th bout and 7th year as a pro with him having just one top ten opponent on his record imo. Hopefully Povetkin is after his September opponent, because not only is that a top match-up, if Deontay won it would probably go a long way in easing the lingering and justified doubts ('hate' to the more biased and less sophisticated) some people have about him.

On paper this will be Wilders second or third best opponent. I'd take Duhaupas over Scott, so I'm going to say its Wilders second best fight.

It's a much better fight then Hughie or Wawrzyck. I like Duhaupas, he's one of the lesser known guys that I follow. I never figured he'd be good enough to land a title shot, but then I forgot Wilder held a title. It's not a horrible fight, and they even gave him like six weeks to prepare!

Duhaupas isn't a bona fide heavyweight contender, but he's at least better than Wawrzyk. He's not a hard puncher, so the taller, much longer Wilder should have few problems with him.

Wilder should fight a real HW contender like Bryant Jennings, who reportedly wants the fight.

Zero chance of Jennings happening. I was guessing it would be Wawrzyk, but maybe Sulaiman and the WBC have stood firm. Once Wawrzyk was off the table I thought they might use the "short notice" excuse with Arreola but that (and Fujimoto) would have been met with howls of derision, so Duhaupas is obviously the next weakest puncher in the WBC top 15

The most decent fight out of possible options (from WBC Top15) list.

As I see it, Wilder wanted to fight before Povetkin (Jan2016???)...some guys from the list, didn't really want to fight Wilder(Joshua?)...some guys were occupied or just had a fight...

So, big and strong European guy looks good as practice before Povetkin (also European).

It was proven in the ring that Duhaupas is worse than Pianeta but better than Charr, so he is definitely much better than Wawrzyk. But what I can't understand in this choise of Wilder's team is how the fight with tall counterpuncher Duhaupas can prepare Wilder for much shorter pressure fighter in Povetkin. Guys like Fedosov or even shot Arreola would better suit for this purpose.

Duhaupas is very different from Povetkin. He is a stick and move type who fights largely on the back foot and gets off shots in spots, while Povetkin is a come forward fighter who pushes opponents back and will exchange inside for prolonged periods. Duhaupas is also somewhat of a point scoring arm puncher and hasn't shown pop at a decent level, while Povetkin has been heavily stopping fairly durable contenders. Add in the difference in dimensions and I don't see Duhaupas as good preparation, regardless of him and Povetkin being from very different places in the same continent.

Does anyone know anything about how long Wilder actually has to face Povetkin, or is the WBC just making things up as it goes along? (I'm presuming so).

Senor Pipino is probably going to post somewhere about how this guy is a respectable opponent for his All American Hero Wilder, while in any other context of course Duhaupas would be a 'Euro scrub'.

Never watched the French guy fights (till today), so you are obviously have more knowledge. Anyhow, Wilder's list was really short...

I follow Povetkin's fights for a long time (I speak Russian) and I'm not really fond of him.
A lot of fights against "former big names"(Byrd, Donald etc), some fights that everyone sure were fixed (including his last one). Against Klichko he was humiliated...Klichko got the 18M purse, so he did not finished him at round 2 or 7.

If anything I appreciate rejection of the Arreola fight, who clearly was not going to be able to compete.

Who, pray tell, was sure that any of Povetkin's fights were fixed? Perez dang near got his head lopped off with that shot...nothing about that fight was even close to a fix.

I'd be happy with this fight, I think it's good matchmaking from Wilder's perspective. Had he done this before offering Hughie a fight he could have avoided worldwide scorn lol

duhaouas beat charr fairly. fight was on charrs ground, under the russians promotion team
he took tepers clubbing shots unlike price and some people felt duhaopuas beat teper

if duhaupas was with matchroom, GBP, TR etc, he'd be more of a name.

Yes. I've seen the fight, and Duhaupas clearly won most of the rounds. Two judges had the correct score of 98-93.

That being said, it wasn't a good fight. Charr looked awful. Duhaupas wasn't impressive either, just not as bad as Charr.

I don't think anyone knows. Doesn't seem to be much in the way of hard and fast rules for how long Wilder has to face Povetkin.

Let's remember he just won the title just under 7 months ago.
He is scheduled to fight September 26th and then has until November until after Povetkin's
next fight to negotiate the mandatory. Then if the fight can not be nogotiated a purse bid will be set.
This fight should happen in January or February.Which would be at either 1 full year as champion for Wilder
or at 13 months.Very much a norm for a mandatory defense.
Also remember that Povetkin just became the mandatory May 22nd when he destroyed #3 contender
Perez. So he has only been mandatory for a couple of months.
I have no problem with Wilder making a couple of million each with these defenses he is doing before being fed to a destroyer like Povetkin. It is his way of building a nest egg if and when he loses the belt to Povetkin.
Just sit back and wait a few more months and see if he tries to avoid the mandatory.I don't think he will.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but wouldn't this be the point Wilder turns into the Haymon HW champ.

Couldn't this Duhaupas fight be made for the new PBC belt as well as the WBC then the WBC can be quietly vacated at the end of the year and Wilder can still be referred to as the HW champion.

Anybody losing to Teper is must be wan.k! Teper can punch a bit but is terrible. This will be a perfect opponent for Wilder.
