The Mexican press and a writer from The Ring, had Pipino Cuevas as one of Mexico's best top ten ever.

He was a good fighter.........A great puncher..........I don't personally know Pipino he was a warrior................. but who is the writer from THE RING[no caps not locked] probably Pipino

In my unbiased opinion, Senor Pipino Cuevas was the greatest Mexican puncher of all-time.

I witnessed a slew of his bouts in person during his 70s heyday, and believe me, that guy could whack like nobody else.

He killed you to the body and could also break your jaw and decapitate you. The beating his put on favored Sacramento son Pete Ranzany was merciless, as was his quick destruction of Clyde Gray and cagey Angel Espada.

He belongs among Mexico's elite fighters. From 1976-1980 this guy was an indestructable, remorseless, punching machine. Carlos Palomino wanted no part of him, and Leonard preferred to face Duran rather than step into the ring with the Mexico City Butcher.

How Psychod1986 thinks that midgets like Barrera and Morales (certainly outstanding fighters, but c'mon!) could take out Cuevas is beyond comprehension. Even Chavez (at his best at 135 and 140) would have been crushed by prime Pipino.

Cuevas vs. Pacquiao would have made for an entertaining go----but only if you hate Pacquiao.

Duran KTFO Pipino - Cuevas belongs to Mexico Cities finest but the very best Mexicans are much more versatile. Cuevas had one way to skin a cat and though it was impressive the other men mentioned had skill, power and precision. They didn't need to wade in a fire away, they could if they fancied but could box their way in or force the other man to lead. Pipino was an excellent hitter but a poor boxer.

Good catch. Had a feeling I was missing somebody. I would include Saldivar with Chavez, Olivares, Barrera, Morales and Zarate. He was a tremendous fighter. I have posted many times that Saldivar gets overlooked and now I did it myself.

I'd put Baby Arizmendi at 3 behind Chavez and Sanchez. He beat Hall of Famers Henry Armstrong, Newsboy Brown, and Chalky Wright twice each, Fidel LaBarba and Freddie Miller once each. In addition he also dad two wins over Eddie Shea, and Speedy Dado, and one win against Young Tommy, Tommy Paul, Mike Belloise, and Davey Day, plus draws with Lou Ambers and Sammy Angott.

His management apparently had little faith in him because he faced very soft opposition overall until his bout with Thomas Hearns, who absolutely destroyed him. An over-the-hill Roberto Duran also beat Cuevas handily. In my opinion, Carlos Palomino, Wilfredo Benitez and Sugar Ray Leonard also would have beaten Cuevas easily.

No one with eyes can dispute that Pipino was a very gifted banger, he got some mighty leverage and really turned his fist into the shot; he also had that insane aggression that is in a person, not a measured aggression but one that would keep on driving. A few of his foes ran out of places to run and were overwhelmed with his sheer pressure, presence and power. At welter the great Chavez had lost his effectiveness, if they had both been in their primes at the same weight there'd have been some collision though Julio would have dished out an artistic beating.

During the early 90s, a lot of Mexican fans predicted that Campas would be the next JC Chavez.

It turns out he probably was no better than JC Chavez JUNIOR.
