Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
do a lot of boxing fans underappreciate this mans skill set and talent? i see rigo as #2 p4p but seems like most people have other fighters in that spot. to me rigo is clearly #2 and when floyd leaves the sport rigo is numero uno.

I'm a huge Rigo fan.
Nothing annoys me more than seeing rating at SB with either Frampton or Santa Cruz number 1.
For me Rigo is clear division number 1 and just needs that career defining fight.

Rigo is something else to watch, the foot work, ring intelligence, such a crafty fighter too. He is overall a better fighter than guys like kovalev, ggg, wlad all those guys

Sure wish TR would get rigo back on undercards in america. get him on pac khab undercard
Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
He hardly ever fights and when he does his opponents are not very good.
He is over appreciated, if anything.

I agree.Horse wrote:He hardly ever fights and when he does his opponents are not very good.

And apart from the inactivity and relative lack of top opponents on his record he was dropped twice by Amagasa, yet is still widely touted as some untouchable master boxer in the P4P top 3 or so.
Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
Probably cause of the facebook /Social media Videos of him shadow boxing and on the bags with numerous comments of people tagging in there mates saying " this is the guy I was talking about"
there's no doubting his boxing ability but he needs to be in with the top guys to be proven as a master fighter and P4P.

To be fair he won every minute of every round in that fight.crusader wrote:I agree.Horse wrote:He hardly ever fights and when he does his opponents are not very good.

I don't think he even looked that shaky by the knockdowns.
He was just over-confident because of the poor level of opposition.
Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
Maybe it has to do with the two Olympic gold medals, two Amateur World Championship medals or the 374-12 record. I know its not the pro game but you don't build a resume like that without being something special.Horse wrote:He hardly ever fights and when he does his opponents are not very good.

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
He's 34 now. How much longer is he going to be able to compete at world level?cocka09 wrote:Maybe it has to do with the two Olympic gold medals, two Amateur World Championship medals or the 374-12 record. His professional record isn't currently anything special and, with the way his career is going, he is not looking like he is going to earn a place in the Hall of Fame.

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
He needs to patch stuff up with Gary Hyde, drop Caribe and get in the ring. Only so long that folks can keep blaming Top Rank...
Interestingly the Amagasa fight got MASSIVE viewings and they were hoping to take him back over for Wake before Caribe stepped in...

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
Appreciated as an amateur, under-appreciated as a pro. Was looking forward to him vs Lomo. No deal?

Rigo is Cuban.......thats the problem. So called fans listen to douchebags like Arum. Problem is Cubans dont sell here n the states. Arum knows this and bashes his fighter and benches him. Did the same thing with Gamboa. Gamboa had to move up 2 divisions and change promoters multiple times.
Lara been fucked the 2 times he fought names.

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
I still don't think a fighter who is as good as many think he is should be having issues like that against such a weak opponent, and watching the knockdowns I think he's clearly unsteady when he goes down the second time. It's not like this is the only example of him having issues with a limited opponent either, as he was on jelly-legs twice against Roberto Marroquin.PredatorHayds wrote:To be fair he won every minute of every round in that fight.crusader wrote:I agree.Horse wrote:He hardly ever fights and when he does his opponents are not very good.

I think Rigo is really good, but #2 is too high in my opinion. I have Roman Gonzalez at that spot.CrazyHorse wrote:do a lot of boxing fans underappreciate this mans skill set and talent? i see rigo as #2 p4p but seems like most people have other fighters in that spot. to me rigo is clearly #2 and when floyd leaves the sport rigo is numero uno.

Pretty hard to build a resume when nobody wants to fight you. The Donaire win is solid. He will make the hall of fame dont get it twisted.Horse wrote:He's 34 now. He doesn't deserve to make it into the Hall of Fame based on his current record.CrazyHorse wrote:Pretty hard to build a resume when nobody wants to fight you. The Donaire win is solid. He will make the hall of fame dont get it twisted.
I wouldn't be surprised if he never beats anyone as good as Donaire again.

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
totaly underappreciated, he is the best boxer in the world, but people always talk about other top boxers
Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
Under appreciated by the Networks. Have not seen the guy fight since Donaire. I'd say it network's problem or he has not fought anyone decent since Donaire. How could he be number 2 P4P.
You think he's better than Klitschko..sh*t....

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
That's gonna change here in the next decade. Cubans are gonna sell in cuba. The border is opening. Cuba may be the next Macau but only better because it's a heck of a lot closer to the United States.hurricanemitch14 wrote:Rigo is Cuban.......thats the problem. Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
I still remember watching the Cordoba fight he did like he usually does in the ams, after being ahead so many pts he thought he started just constantly moving. Almost cost him the fight. I remember people were saying he was boring. I don't find him boring personally. He does have a suspect chin though, every time I watch him fight I hold my breathe when a fighter throws a power punch lol

Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
I think boxing fans, in general, like to see a balance of effective offense and defense. Rigo, while technically outstanding, can lull people into a trance like state. He doesn't produce much drama. Drama is what attracted me to the sport in the first place. So, a fight which lacks it, no matter how technical, tends to leave me with an unsatisfied feeling.
Re: Is Rigondeaux underappreciated?
This could also serve as proof that some people, like yourself, overrate him.CrazyHorse wrote:i see rigo as #2 p4p but seems like most people have other fighters in that spot. to me rigo is clearly #2 and when floyd leaves the sport rigo is numero uno.
