Liam Smith v Michel Soro

Post by expe »

More or less confirmed as the third world title fight on the October 10th show. Latest set of WBO rankings are out today, Alvarez is 1 and he's fighting Cotto, Soro and Smith are at 2 and 3.

Very interesting fight.

Soro can sometimes fight negatively and be outworked as a result, but he's dangerous when he lets his hands go and is currently on career-best form. He's clearly the more proven of the two I can easily see him beating Smith.

Is Smith not pencilled in to defend his British against Kris Carslaw at the start of September? I take it that'll be scrapped then?

Cracking fight. First saw Soro a few years ago and he has improved so much since then. Really good fighter.

This is a cracking match up,i remember seeing Soro a few years ago when he fought Baysangurov for this title and i had it closer than the judges,i just had a look at his record ,i never knew he just KO'd Blandamura for the European,i never seen him stopping Tapia either but remember reading about it,forgot Carslaw went over to France to fight as well

Beefy's becoming a more rounded boxer with every passing fight and has developed into a spiteful puncher, especially with the body shots,he looks to me 1 of those fighters who cant be KO'd,he just has the solid, rugged look about him and he seems determined and strong willed,i cant see nothing or no one fazing him so there's no chance he'll freeze

I give Smith a real chance but toughest fight of his career by far

Watched the fight Soro had with Tapia he is good fighter. I can seeing him beating Smith mainly because Liam's recent opposition has been dreadful and I don't think he will have learnt anything since the Ochieng fight.

Hope I'm wrong though he has an exciting fight style just wish he had fought a couple fringe world level guys not just fights he has been 1/200 with the bookies.

But will this offer depend on Liam signing away the rest of his career in a contract extension ? If the fight is not signed and sealed it should not be announced.

He told someone on his Twitter he is on the card and retweeted someone who posted press conference details. Would like to think it is happening

My money would be on Smith with the fight being in the Uk.
Will be a proper pick em fight.
Be interesting to see how pally he is with his promoter who's just finished suing his brother.

Who'll fight for the vacant title then if Smith vacates? Carslaw vs ?. The light middleweight division isn't our best in terms of talent. Liam Williams looks good but is relatively inexperienced.

I think it would be Corcoran, can't think of anyone else that's won an eliminator.

Corcoran vs Carslaw would be a decent wee fight. I reckon Corcoran would outwork Kris.

Haven't seen much of Soro, what sort of style does he have? Will it suit Beefy?

Soro is turning into a quality operator.
Beat Blandamura up at middle last month.
I think he will beat Smith.

That's a very pessimistic way of looking at things what do you think this is "boxing " or something.

He's a very patient counter-puncher with solid power and accuracy. In his loss and draw I thought he appeared like the more gifted fighter, and he clearly hurt his opponents, but in both cases he didn't move his hands enough and was significantly outworked in several rounds. This was also the case in the first few rounds of his win over Tapia, and while I think that he has more than enough ability to beat Smith I also believe there's a decent chance that he gets outworked again and loses another tight one.

I'm really looking forward to it :bag:

Worth noting that he was only a part time boxer then he fought Baysangurov, he was also a personal fitness trainer or something (IIRC that was stated in the commentary). He's certainly developed a lot since then.

Soro now out of the fight with American John Thompson replacing him.....Thompson has only fought 2 x 10 rounders before and never fought in a 12 round fight.
How the hell has he got this fight? Anyone seen him fight before?

There's a thread about Thompson on CS with some background info.

Saw him fight a few times in that boxcino tourny last year (he won it) on Friday Night Fights, great chance for Smith to win a belt this!
