Danny Green to fight Roberto Bolonti after Kovacs pulls out due to injury
Green to fight Roberto Bolonti after Tamas Kovacs pulls out with neck injury
Danny Green has been forced to find a new opponent after Slovakian Tamas Kovacs withdrew from next week’s comeback fight in Melbourne, citing a neck injury sustained in training.
Argentinian light-heavyweight Roberto Bolonti, 36, who has won 36 of 39 fights, and never been knocked out, will now confront the four-time world champion at Hisense Arena on Wednesday night.
Green, who is fighting for the first time in three years said on Tuesday night: “I was sick when I heard about Kovacs but he is shattered too. Bolonti is a tough customer and this will probably been an even harder fight,”

This Bolonti guy took a dive in the 2nd round vs Pascal. Got taken out in a stretcher and then walked from hospital an hour later.

Opponents pulling out seems to be the flavour of the month.

How did I know this xxxxx would say that.
Re: Danny Green to fight Roberto Bolonti after Kovacs pulls out due to injury
Bolonti has had the better opponents and should pose a better match up for Green than Kovacs. As for his "dive" Pascal has been in many controversial/odd fights over his career.
Check out youtube footage of Bolonti. be interesteing to see how he carries the extra weight. Good on danny for finding an opponent at short notice.

Interesting that Green and promoter for this card Peter Maniatis have gone for an international replacement - even on short notice.
Then again, they have booked a 10,500 capacity stadium and obviously want to fill as many seats in it as they can, and sell as many PPV's as they can too - so their best chance of doing that was always going to be against an international opponent.

I saw Bolonti fight Tony Bellew live and he didn't look like a diver in that fight, in fact he was quite game but very limited, if Green has anything left he should handle Bolonti with ease and may stop him.
If there's another dodgy stoppage the Bolonti is a diver lol

This will be Bolonti's 40th fight and he's never been stopped. If you are that confident he is going to take a dive best you get down to the TAB with your life savings.

I've got a hunch the yellow machine can't pull the trigger anymore, the problem now lies with what the Argy has been paid to do.

Is there intended to be a meaning to that?Kelandbeave wrote:I've got a hunch the yellow machine can't pull the trigger anymore, the problem now lies with what the Argy has been paid to do.

Green Raring To Go
http://www.sportsfan.com.au/green-rarin ... fault.aspx?
Veteran Danny Green says he's returning to the boxing ring older and wiser as he lines up for his first bout in almost three years.
"I'm not a young man anymore but I feel great," Green said.
"I've always been a fairly accurate puncher but I've got to pick my punches and rely on my accuracy and timing a lot more."
"It's difficult to go as hard as I used to but my mental state is positive."
"This guy's been the distance with very good fighter, renowned world champions and he won his last fight by second round knock out," Green said.
"He's dangerous, awkward, he's a guy who throws punches from all angles."

It's a long flight at late notice will Green KO the jet lagged Argie diver or carry him 12 for a decision win before calling out a JMW post fight. :??Kelandbeave wrote:I've got a hunch the yellow machine can't pull the trigger anymore, the problem now lies with what the Argy has been paid to do.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see an over the hill Green struggle on Wednesday night. Boxing history is littered with fighters who came back when they shouldn't have and there's every chance this will be another one.

Re: Danny Green to fight Roberto Bolonti after Kovacs pulls out due to injury
Green 186.9 pounds and over 5 pounds lighter than he was when last in the ring in late 2012.
Bolonti 186.5 pounds and nearly 12 pounds heavier than he was when he last fought.

I believe "The Rose" is reffing the fight. I guess why settle for second best, when one can get the best? (Rose's words not mine)
I thought Vic Control appoints officials & not promoter for non title bouts. Only major world title governing bodies are allowed to do so.
Maybe things had changed or simply forgotten over the years?

Bolonti's trainer Jorge Raul says their plan for victory is "top secret."
Wow a covert operation. Perhaps Bolonti should wear a mask like Rey Mysterio?

If Bolonti is 12 pounds heavier than his last fight only 3 weeks ago he is hiding it well. He hardly looks flabby. It still looks like he has a six pack stomach.AntonS wrote:Official or this arvo's dud for News Sport reports?Like a Boss wrote:Green 186.9 pounds and over 5 pounds lighter than he was when last in the ring in late 2012.

Lets hope "the rose" allows this fight to be about the fighters and not him. Seems to get over involved at times.AntonS wrote:I believe "The Rose" is reffing the fight. I guess why settle for second best, when one can get the best? (Rose's words not mine)![]()

Should be a good fight. The Argentinian looks fit.
Its strange they would use a QLD referee.
When they have 2 world class IBF officials in Victoria. Tony Morretta and Ignatius Misilidis.

Oops! forgot to mention Ignatius Misilidis. "The Rose" aint Qld registered ref/judge (even if he was, it ain't recognized by other State government control bodies) but I believe he is NSW, which possibly allows him?Sweet P wrote:Should be a good fight. The Argentinian looks fit.

As far as I know, The Rose only renewed his yearly NSW rego when aware there was an upcoming gig in Tweed Heads or Coffs Harbour
Maybe NZ (non government regulators) simply assumed his rego was current in recent times?
