@Corker77...good response Matt and thanks for the detailed reply.
I come from your background - but as someone who has worked closely with editors/journos and in other sectors - so I do realise that things like budgets, staff numbers, the wider commercial concerns of publishers who are running a business and deadline constraints actually mean that an editor is often a fixer-in-chief rather than someone who has the power to wave a magic wand and publish exactly what he thinks is right and whenever he wants. The days of the editor being king - able to make each issue his own - are well and truly gone and are not not coming back.
I still buy BN but not every week; and the reason why is that I still don't like are those filler pages where the team chatting to itself about the week ahead and we get polls and lazy top-tens as well....the heartbeat of the magazine should still be current news and using some of the great global contacts/network you used to have...not the team sitting around saying 'well, I think this.' Sounds harsh, but you are a weekly news title and opinon-ed pieces should be the preserve of the editoral leader and not extend into the meat of the magazine?
finally cancelled BN subscription
Re: finally cancelled BN subscription
It's hard to ask any weekly printed publication to be "news" led nowadays though. I get BN every week and have done for the best part of 25 years. The news parts used to be my favourite as I would read for the first time about matches made etc. Now, because of forums and news-sites, there is generally nothing in the news section that I did not already know. Instead, some of the interviews recently (Eubank Jnr etc) have been the highlights of the paper.
My biggest grumble of the current BN is devoting a page every week to world rankings, which barely change week-to-week.

Bring back the "Old Timers" page - a great way for the various EBA's to share news.
Re: finally cancelled BN subscription
Ok Matt, you've convinced me there will be changes. Took out new subscription. It pays to keep in touch with the punters - even those up north in Gods country.
