As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
We, as fans, tend to enjoy the sport but we all like our own things. For example some of us like the "big events" whilst others would prefer more "small hall" shows, some want to see more "big name" fighters whilst others prefer "even match ups. As a fan what are the things YOU want to see more of? If you could speak to a promoter and perhaps suggest 3 or 4 things, what would they be?
(Try to keep this to a "positive" feel as opposed to what you want to see "less" of)

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
1) Every PPV fight card should have at least 2 major fights on them.
2) There should be a professional school for scoring/judging fights.
3) There should be an independent international body whose sole duty is to rank fighters and investigate anything that appears improper, with the power to overturn bad decisions.
4) We need better commentators. Too few of them know how to properly describe certain styles of fighting in a way to convey to fans exactly what they are seeing. It is amazing how casual fans see a "boring" fight while most boxers who see the same fight describe it with awe and wonder. Fans need to be taught to see the same things those fighters see.

No way around rankings, no avoiding mandatories regardless of promoters and TV networks, in general, the sanctioning bodies actually being back in control and all title fights having judges not from the fighters country's, way too many bad decisions

add on
5) all big promoters and managers should work together in order to let the biggest boxing stars fight the biggest boxing stars and not like now where everybody seems to not get along and so many big fight aint happening or take years to happen

More Cotto v GingerHead, 3G v LeMieux, Brook v Ramming Speed, Santa Cruz v Mares, etc.
Less FMJ v Berto and Ward v Periban.

The key to good, entertaining boxing is well matched fights, whatever level the fighters are at. It is something we don't see enough of unfortunately.
Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
More cross promotions.
More genuine 50/50 matchups.
A complete overhall in ref and judging. Dave Moretti has done like 7 Floyd fights in a row including the controversial Maidana bout then the immediate rematch! In the UK Ian John Lewis fucks up every single week yet seems answerable to noone. The British Boxing Board have a very small circuit of officials which ref and judge. Ian John Lewis and Terry OConner will be reffing fight 1, judging fight 2 etc. It's amatuerish.
In addition to overhauling the rosters the rules need to better applied. Clinching needs point deductions inside 3 rounds if someone is constantly hugging because they can't fight at close quarters. Offensive fighters need to be given more weight in judging that potshotting runners.
I'd like to see accurate punch stats done by either study of slowmo replay or glove sensors (like tennis hawkeye).
I'd like to see fighters fight 4 times per year.

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
I would really like to see Boxing learn a thing or two from what the UFC is doing these days with their events.
With the UFC, they are selling the event on the strength of all the bouts on fight night, not just the Main Event. I think that Boxing spends 99% of the time negotiating one main fight and then they just trickle in some other garbage fights at the last second haphazardly.
It would be great if Boxing had 3 or 4 noteworthy fights on fight night instead of some promoter pitting some of his young lions against junk just trying to get their name out there. But that's what sucks about boxing promoters these days. Imagine if there was a healthy competition between promotion arms in which one night we get a Top Rank vs Golden Boy night and see what cream rises to the top.
I'm a dreamer, what can i say? I know that it will never happen.

Haymon seems to be attempting to put together his own boxing version of the UFC.caldo2025 wrote:I would really like to see Boxing learn a thing or two from what the UFC is doing these days with their events.

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
1. More competitively matched fights, in number and degree of competitiveness, at all levels. This would involve a reduction of 'name' match-ups which are actually pretty shitty, such as Garcia-Paulie.
2. More cards stacked with competitive fights rather than mainly with a bunch of recognizable names who are matched with outclassed opposition
3. More cooperation between ABCs and more frequent ordering of mandatory bouts involving deserving challengers
4. More cooperation between promoters
5. On the part of fans and pundits, more focus on the quality of fights and less on who is putting on the fights

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
I'd basically like to see some good competitive fights more regular, as a lot we see just seem to be building their fighters for quick Ko's or snooze fests in big fights! with neither fighter wanting to get involved to much or retirement fights with the boxer having no intention of getting stuck in!

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
I like watching two evenly matched, built up bangers go out it. Ggg v luminex is my kinda fight. Big power big knockouts lots of danger and very little defense
Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
That Friday weigh in bullsh*t has got to go for starters, weigh in a few hours before the fight.
You know how it is I'm not explaining it.
Judges have been doing ok but don't take your eye off them.
Referee's about the same maybe a bit better no serious complaints.
I would say we restructure the entire weigh classes, let's face it the whole thing is bollocks as the friggin Welterweights are fighting the god damn Light Heavyweights and the Featherweights are boxing the Lightweights.
More drama at weigh ins and press conferences.
Love the PBC big fan but the walk in entourages with the music loud was pretty hard to beat and should make a comeback however scripted and controlled, but not over either.
That's it for now

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
Less fights being made PPV.
More competitive fights on big shows, they don't have to be big names, just guys who come to fight and are well matched.
No more proliferation of 'interim' and 'silver' and other such nonsense belts.

Re: As a boxing fan what do you want to see more of?
A couple of things that I would like to see:
1. Bring instant replay to boxing and use it in between rounds on judgment calls like cuts caused by butt/punch, knockdowns and penalty points. Taking a point away from a boxer is a huge penalty so why not be absolutely sure of the decision. I've seen so many boxers penalized for things when instant replay determined that no foul was made. Give the Ref a second and third look in between rounds, what harm could that do? What are they doing in between rounds anyway except bothering trainers as they are talking to their boxers.
2. Change the current judging system. Remove the 3 judges from ringside and bring them to a neutral location, say NYC, and make them watch the fight with no sound and in isolation where they are not influenced by anything except the action in the ring. Expand the quantity of judges from 3 to 5 to get more accuracy and eliminate the probability of a draw. We should never see another draw in boxing because there's no need for it. The chances of a draw is reduced with this change.
**This past weekend on a golf trip with my buddies, i convinced 10 non boxing fans to sit down and watch the Tarver/Cunningham fight. At first it felt like twisting their arms to get them to watch it. After the first 4 rounds, they were into it and new fans were blossoming. Then, the decision came....A DRAW...and they were lost for good. They couldn't believe that after all that up and down action and screaming we did at the tv that we'd be walking away with a tie. As they walked away they confirmed " And...that's why i will never watch boxing again".
Get rid of the Draw. There's really no possible way of a fight being exactly even. It's not possible. Someone always wins a fight, just eliminate the draw as a possible conclusion.

No need to have the judges at a remote location, just construct a sound proof booth, it's not very hard to do. I agree they should not be on ringside, as the view is terrible from there, and they should watch without sound.
I do not believe there should be no draws. There are plenty of draws in other sports too, it doesn't prevent people from watching that. If your friends are turned off that easily, they were never going to be fans in the first place.
I'm not sure how 5 judges would help, if anything, you'll end up with
I think what DOES need changing is the daft scoring system, whereby without knockouts, one fighter can only win a round by 1 point, which is ridiculous. You get rounds where one fighter clearly dominates the round, and another where it's hard to separate them, therefore a fighter could dominate the first half of a fight totally, win the first 6, suffer one knockdown in the 7th, and then his opponent just shades the next 5 and wins the fight. That isn't really a fair reflection of what has occurred.
I'd favour a clear ruling for 10-8 for a clearly dominant round, 10-9 for one where a fighter just shades it, then 10-7 if you clearly dominate with a knockdown, or 10-8 if you shade it and score a knockdown. No rounds more than 10-6 no matter how many knockdowns as it is now.

i'd like to see more 'world titles'
theres no reason why small hall 4 rounders cant be called world title too
im sure all managers, promoters and tv execs would agree
and what die-hard fan isnt going to tune in to watch a world title fight?
its a win win

I agree totally..why not extend world titles to fights outside chip shops too - we've got oodles of CCTV, think of the money that could be generated!funso banjo baby wrote:i'd like to see more 'world titles'

'Babhouse' World Champion
'Snookerhall' World champion...
The possibilities are endless. Why stop there, Saveloy hurling competitions in between bouts, to keep the punters geed up.

1. Cheaper PPV's
2. Better match-ups
3. More PBC! I love what they are doing. They make boxing look fun to watch. Just need better match ups
