Why fight on? Jones jr, shane mosley

Post by KingMazzzza »

Why do fighters way past their prime fight on? Jones jr has 0 too prove and his last 15 fights are fights he should have not had if he retired after 1st victory over tarver he would have been rated waaaaay higher. Im sure he doesnt need money so why?

Shane mosley? Past his prime had huge pay days yet still fighting?

Tarver
Toney
Barrera
Morales
Tyson
Holyfield

Just a few off top my head that fought on when money was not an issue and were clearly past it

It's what they love and have done their whole lives. Finances play a big part in lots of cases, but there's a mental side of it a lot of people seems to forget about.

Even as old as 45-50 is VERY young to give up the "job" you love. Sports are the only form of employment that really has such a low ceiling.

putin just gave rjj russian citizenship. i'm pretty sure their taxes are lower there
and jones said something about creating bridges between russia and the usa
using boxing, but i'm guessing some petro billionaire is backing roy, who met last
month in cirmea with putin. he could even get a rematch with lebedev or shot at drozd.
with dual papers, he's going to be spending a lot more time over there. probably lots
of little roy jones jr jr russian babies popping up over there, too.

Many of the names you mentioned have had serious money problems, so money was/is a big part of it.

The worst of the crew is Toney, losing to a 9-3 journeyman is just totally pathetic and a sheer sign that you need to quit, at least Jones is still winning although it's against no hopers and bums.

The jury is still out on Mosley but I'll give him his credit, at least he's proven he can take a beating like no one else in the sport and still continue fighting, Mayorga is just as shot as Shane so it's a matter of who is shot the most that will or should determine who should win.

We all know that Mayo has been out of the game for a while so he has had some time to recover even though he's taken a few lumps in MMA it isn't as worse as Mosley getting beaten for 12 continuous rounds in his last few outings and experiencing more ringwear.

I think Roy Jones fights on because he wants a shot at a Cruiserweight title.

So if you truly believe that then you obviously believe the path he is taking now is the correct path to get him there?? Personally I don't think him beating lower level bums and no hopers is the correct path to the title.

If Roy was serious then why not go after Huck who was recently KO'd?? Roy's namesake alone would bring him into contention simply because people know who he is and the rest of the CWs are basically nobodies by name comparison.

Yes he's taking the right path.
What can I tell you I considered a Huck v Jones Jr fight.

he doesn't just have his name alone now. he has billionaires behind him who will arrange everything for a title
fight over there.
