Crawford vs Jean

Post by KBB »

Undefeated two-division world champion and the reigning Fighter of the Year, Terence "Bud" Crawford, Omaha's favorite son, and one-time world title challenger and current #2 world-rated contender, Dierry "Dougy Style" Jean, will host a news conference announcing their World Junior Welterweight Championship fight This Monday! August 24, at the CenturyLink Center, in the Bud Light Zone (455 North 10th St., Omaha, Neb. 68102). The news conference, which will be open to the public, will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT, with doors opening at 12:30 p.m. CT. Joining Crawford and Jean will be Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank.

The press conference will be streamed live, beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT, via www.toprank.tv.

Crawford (26-0, 18 KOs) will be making the first defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title. It will be the third time Omaha has hosted a world title fight for its hometown hero Crawford. Jean (29-1, 20 KOs), from Montréal, Québec, Canada, returns to the ring riding a four-bout winning streak, three of those victories coming by way of knockout, since losing a 12-round decision to world champion Lamont Peterson last year.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Tecate, the Crawford vs. Jean World Junior Welterweight Championship fight will take place Saturday, October 24, at the CenturyLink Center. The championship event will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

What do you guys make of this bout? Has Jean improved enough since the one punch KO by Matthyse? Personally i don't think he knows enough to deal with Bud, what are your thoughts??

120-108 for Crawford, he is capable of stopping Jean too :box:

I agree that he can stop Jean but I don't see Dierry standing around long enough to get into a exchange.

Jean never fought Lucas and his only loss came via decision to Peterson in a somewhat competitive fight with a clear winner.

In my opinion it's an uninspiring match-up that Crawford should easily win. I wasn't excited with him fighting Dulorme last time either, so I hope he fights better opponents in the near future that befit someone of his impressive ability.

Jean has never fought Matthysse - has sole loss was a lopsided decision to Lamont Peterson. He looked pretty vulnerable against a Mexican guy on one of Beterbiev's undercards as well if memory serves. I think Crawford has enough to stop him in 7-10 rounds.

Being someone who already has Crawford Top 10 PFP, Jean is to me an extraordinarily uninspiring opponent. Hopefully the next one is one of Matthysse, Barthelemy, Figueroa, Benavidez, Soto, Broner, Allakhverdiev, Vargas, Postol or Herrera at the very least.

Looks like crusader beat me to it - I don't remember Peterson-Jean as competitive at all but I might be wrong about that.

Two things:

1. Crawford should win a shut out UD.

2. Dougy Style is the worst nickname in boxing history.

Not very often do guys take on top pfp guys in their first fight at the weight, or 1st defense at the weight. Both Dulorme and Jean are decent and acceptable opponents for Crawford to get established at the weight.

I have no problem with this fight. I also would have no problem with Crawford taking on Pac now or in his next fight.

I think Crawford will have two BIG fights in 2016.

Poor match up, but then again that's what boxing's become now a days. Big name faces "meh" opponent in a 80:20 style bout

Good matchup.

It will be competitive in the early rounds, but think Crawford stops Jean late.

Curious, who do you think would be a better match up for him? Matthysse vs Postol is out.

Any of:
Provodnikov
Cuenca
Peterson (if he's still at 140, not clear either way)
Herrera
Benevidez
Lopez (if he's willing to fight at 140)
Barthelemy (I understand why that one won't happen but it'd be a good one IMO)
Roberto Ortiz

I just can't say I've been excited about Jean, especially when you consider he's fought 3 of his last 4 at 135. If we're dragging guys up Shafikov, Zlaticanin, Vazquez and Abril would all be more intriguing.

Again the PBC/Arum divide robs us of things like Barthelmy, Vazquez and Zlaticanin

Decent fight taking into consideration it's Crawford's first defence up at 140,then its not too bad,at least Jean has got back to winning ways since the Peterson loss

But Crawford is that talented where he needs big fights and the fans deserve big fights so we can see the best of him, seeing him in with the winner of Matthysse-Postol or Cuenca are the only other clear better match ups at light welter just now(that i can think off)

Decent fight. Dulorme and Jean at the time of the fights were probably top 10 contenders.
Crawford looks like he will slowly prove he's number 1 in the division like he did at LW.
I'd be super excited for a Crawford- Matthysse fight next year.

I think it's a perfect step up for Crawford at this point. He's not jumping in the water completely but he's in about waist high in this fight and i'm good with it. While most of Haymon's fighters keep putting one toe in the water, it's refreshing to see a boxer stepping up to this level of opposition.

I could watch TC fight anyone because I love his boxing style, versatility and anger in the ring. Even better now that he's going to be in there with a quality opponent. Love it.

While this is an adequate fight, I do not consider it a step up. Jean has not really fought at 140. He has not been in with anywhere near the level of competition that Crawford has.

Jean would be in deep with any of Crawford's last four opponents.

If Crawford does the expected and dispatches with Jean, we will see him in an actual step up in the first half of 2016.
