Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
Jesus they are really afraid of letting Wilder fight anyone of note, Johann Duhaupas is a french heavy (I had to look that up) and going by his videos he's a toughish plodding boxer, so Wilder should beat him with a highlight KO.
Saying that i might stick a tenner on Duhaupas because if this is the toughest guy that Wilders handlers want to stick him in with , then they must know that Wilder has got that dodgy chin, and with heavyweights one punch can change things.

Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
Think he has to fight Povetkin after this one and he's been on formidable form recently. We'll see what he's made of in that fight at least.

Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
I'd never even really heard of Duhaupas until a few months ago,his records not too bad, probably not that different to Charr,Pianeta or Wach until they challenged a Klitschko so seeing as its only Wilder's second defence,im not too fussed, especially after the trouble Molina had Deontay in last time out so could be interesting
Povetkin is the 1 im waiting for though

He's just keeping the belt warm for Povetkin anyways so no point complaining

Duhaupas is a solid European level fighter, would be a good test for the likes of Joshua,Whyte,Parker,Browne but not somebody i would expect to give a title holder any issues.

He's literally the worst guy in the WBC top 15 bar maybe Fujimoto.
Real bottom of the barrel type stuff from team Wilder. Not reall ideal prep for Povetkin; me thinks Wilder gets clobbered in that one.

He's a wide open arm puncher with little defence other than using his legs to skitter away from the incoming. I thought he beat Charr, but Charr was mind-blowingly, cuntingly awful & still hurt him a couple times even though he got outworked.
As I said on the Current Scene, it'd be a really good fight... If Wilder was a 15-fight novice, rather than somebody pretending to be heavyweight champion of the world.
What's the odds on Haymon making up a PBC belt, giving it to Wilder who ditches the WBC belt & can therefore avoid Povetkin forevermore until someone safely deposes Wlad & then they can cash out on the boy?
Evens?
Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
You can look at it like that, or you can look at it from the perspective that you should be fussed considering that this will be his 35th fight over seven years and yet he'll still only have fought one guy in the top ten and I'd say just three guys in the top thirty, including his lone top ten foe Stiverne.handsofstone wrote: so seeing as its only Wilder's second defence,im not too fussed
Duhaupas already had his level proven by losing unanimously to guys like Pianeta and Teper (just two fights ago), but Wilder's opposition has been so bad that he's still among his best opponents. Now some people seem to think that makes it a decent match-up, but to me it's more of a which shit smells worse type of thing (Duhaupas isn't shit, but he's EBU level at best and as mentioned would be far more fitting as a test for prospects than a top 5 fighter with a world title).
Actually, Duhaupas reminds me a bit of Stiverne in that his reputation is based almost entirely on beating one opponent who never cut it at top level, which has worked to cover up fights that clearly showed pronounced limitations.

The WBC top 15 is surprisingly strong though and on paper he's not the worst from that lot either.black panther wrote:He's literally the worst guy in the WBC top 15 bar maybe Fujimoto.

Duhaupas would be one of Wilder's top 3 wins, so he isn't that bad.

Stiverne, Scott &... Harrison? Molina?crusader wrote:he'll still only have fought one guy in the top ten and I'd say just three guys in the top thirty, including his lone top ten foe Stiverne.
Does it matter if he lost unanimously?crusader wrote:Duhaupas already had his level proven by losing unanimously to guys like Pianeta and Teper (just two fights ago),
What matters more is if the fights were close or not. I didn't see the Pianeta fight, but the Teper fight was very close.

Stiverne, Scott, and Duhaupas in my opinion.Horse wrote:Stiverne, Scott &... Harrison? Molina?crusader wrote:he'll still only have fought one guy in the top ten and I'd say just three guys in the top thirty, including his lone top ten foe Stiverne.

I think the result is relevant when it's fair, and I believe that Duhaupas clearly lost both fights as all of the judges did. The Teper fight was competitive and I think I remember you saying that you had Duhaupas winning, but in my opinion that is being generous to him.
Incidentally, didn't you have him losing to Charr by 3 points in his last fight?

You can't count the Duhaupas fight before it's happened.crusader wrote:Stiverne, Scott, and Duhaupas in my opinion.
Yes, I had him losing to Charr by 3 points, but I was in the minority with my opinion.crusader wrote:I think the result is relevant when it's fair, and I believe that Duhaupas clearly lost both fights as all of the judges did. I thought he was too negative, but I punish overtly defensive boxing more than most.
Duhaupas is No. 20 in my heavyweight rankings, so he is a reasonably decent opponent in my opinion.
Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
I'm not counting it. I was speaking hypothetically and noted that if he faced Duhapuas it would be his 35th bout, yet he will have only fought 3 top 30 opponents in my view.
I think Duhaupas is an underwhelming opponent for someone who needs a step-up. If I knew the Povetkin bout would happen next I wouldn't be as critical, but I won't be surprised if Wilder's next fight after JD is against someone else.

Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
Being a top 20 or 30 boxer shouldn't be ok to fight for the WBC title, there are even American heavies around that could be better, Jennings, Tarver, Cunningham, Mansour. Any of those would sell better against Wilder.
I was impressed when he won the title, but he's moving slower than my Nan now.

Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
France remains a strong/credible boxing nation so I was initially thinking we might give Duhaupas a bit of the old benefit of the doubt as their heavyweight champion....when you go on to Boxrec they do a serious and surprising amount of shows!
But then again...they've not ever excelled with the big men in the modern era (arguably they've underperformed badly) and most French heavies I can recall have been pretty average....guys like Gregory Tony and Chanet were not up to much and although Mormeck did got a crack at the title, you probably have to go back a long, long way to someone like Lucien Rodriguez to find a world class French heavy.
Bruno knocked the stuffing out of Rodriguez but got him at the right time.
Basically it does not take a great deal to top of the French heavyweight tree but the WBC will rank you a half-decent ranking because it is a big boxing country. That's the way the WBC rolls....
Bit disappointed with Wilder to be frank....he'd learn a bit more from fighting someone like Charr or Jennings and that in turn would prepare him for the big fights that lie ahead.

x2 love watching Povetkin and i think he'll be too strong for Wilder.
Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
Manuel Charr just got knocked out in 5 by small HW Mairis Briedis by the way. This is relevant considering that Duhaupas got this fight on the back of his decision win over Charr, in which he outscored the latter at times but never hurt him. That's also Duhaupas's only win over a notable fighter and it reaffirms my belief that he's a safe opponent for Wilder.
Charr was knocked out cold in Pac-Marquez 4 style. Since an uppercut finished the bout it was even more redolent of Stephen Smith's KTFO of Buckland.

It is a thing of hilarity & wonder, the way he goes walking away looking around him: "Who did that? Fvck, where'd he go?"
But yeah, when your best win just evaporated to this dude, it speaks volumes about the threat you carry.
Duhaupas is nothing but more cannon fodder.

No wonder he looks shocked, the Briedis punch looked nothing more than a swipe, Charr's punch resistance has gone.
The ref looks like he's trying to take flight.

I wouldn't want a "swipe" like that, the punch is travelling with real speed, he never saw it coming and it snapped his head right back.MightyWarrior wrote:No wonder he looks shocked, the Briedis punch looked nothing more than a swipe, Charr's punch resistance has gone.

Re: Wilder vs Johann Duhaupas
I havent seen much of Duhaupas, nothing great but looks durable,if Molina can give Wilder problems then i imagine Johann can,on the other hand if Wilder tags him early then it could be over quickly,i suspect Wilder wins in about 10
