Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
Briedis is a very small HW but he was good enough to overcome the size disparity. Props to TheBeast for calling this one.

Re: Manuel Charr KO'd by Mairis Briedis
Is it too late for Briedis to step in to face Wilder?

Re: Manuel Charr KO'd by Mairis Briedis
Always said that Charr was EXREMELY overrated (mostly by Povetkin's fans). The guy has no skills, low boxing IQ, bad defense and is very predictable fighter. But big props for Briedis anyway. He is skilled and inteligent fighter with good power even at HW. I don't think he will stay in this division though - he is just too small. He can drop down to 200 lbs easily and try to win world title there against guy of his size.
Re: Manuel Charr KO'd by Mairis Briedis
Briedis may be seen as too dangerous since he put Charr down and out rather than winning a decision and failing to hurt him like Duhaupas did.handsofstone wrote:Is it too late for Briedis to step in to face Wilder?
I hadn't seen much of MB but a few guys whose opinions I respect were high on him and called this result. I'll have to check out more of him.....Boxing Writer wrote:Always said that Charr was EXREMELY overrated (mostly by Povetkin's fans). Nice uppercut and heavy KO.
Re: Manuel Charr KO'd by Mairis Briedis
Charr was knocked out cold in Pac-Marquez 4 style. It was even more redolent of Stephen Smith's uppercut KTFO of Gary Buckland.

Re: Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
Man that was worse than the Plankquiao, bigger they are the harder the fall and Charr face planted like a giant salmon. Hope he's ok, should retire though, he's awful.

Re: Manuel Charr KO'd by Mairis Briedis
I saw a lot of his fights from Bigger's better tournaments (he participated there at least twice as far as I know). He demolished 6'6'' Evgenios Lazaridis there. Lazaridis' record is listed 8-0, 5 KO on BoxRec, because BoxRec doesn't include results from Bigger's better tournaments in it's database. And I'm gald they don't, cause there were some very questionable dicisions there. Briedis' record was like 5-1 in Bigger's better tournaments - he "lost" in the final's of one of the tournaments. His "loss" to Croatian fighter Ivica Bacurin in Croatia wasn't just questionable - it was daylight robbery.crusader wrote:Briedis may be seen as too dangerous since he put Charr down and out rather than winning a decision and failing to hurt him like Duhaupas did.handsofstone wrote:Is it too late for Briedis to step in to face Wilder?

Re: Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
Briedis looked really good despite looking to struggle a little with the size. Get him in with Cunningham next!
Re: Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
What Briedis did was kind of puzzling. He was just touching Charr with minimal power repeatedly throughout the fight and this this one hook + uppercut + hook combination put Charr all the way to sleep. It's hard to tell if Briedis was secretly concealing more power than he let on, or if this result was a bit of a fluke. I certainly can't wait to see him in other interesting match-ups.

I hate seeing ref's fvck about standing there waving ,he shouldve quickly waved it off then put Charr on his side, instead he left him face down whilst waving his arms like an idiot
Cracking finish from Briedis though, nice little 2 punch combo to bring things to a conclusion

Great finish.
Wonder what's next for Charr. At least he should of earned a few quid fighting in Russia.
Will he rebuild again??

Re: Manuel Charr knocked out cold by Mairis Briedis
I'd be quite interested in Charr-Price. That really would be a fight were the loser has nowhere to go.
And as someone said previous Teper-Prescott unless they serve Prescott to Povetkin.

Mairis Briedis is not Breidis Prescott.PredatorHayds wrote:I'd be quite interested in Charr-Price. That really would be a fight were the loser has nowhere to go.

That's no fluke, and it's not about power -- just good hand & foot speed, pinpoint timing and accuracy.

Well, that sort of is power though isn't it? Fast hands and unexpected angles create knockouts, not just brute force.Cutman Scabbers wrote:Lackeos wrote:What Briedis did was kind of puzzling. In that sense, yes -- it's a kind of magic -- I mean power.
