Thought it was only if you win the world title? European title gets vacated if you fight for a world title, but the Commonwealth is only if you win it and I thought the British title was the same, Butler was still champion even after he won a world title. Jason Booth, Martin Murray, Paul Smith and Tony Bellew have all fought for world titles in recent years without losing the British title in the process.

I think Liam should vacate, he's past domestic level now and there's a number of good young fighters coming through that could give us some great fights to watch while they fight over the belt to see who's good enough to make the next step. From his perspective he's one defence away from winning it outright and if he can keep hold of it, it's an obvious comeback route if he loses to Soro, so I understand why he wouldn't want to unless he has to.

John Thompson won the Boxcino LMW tournement on ESPN earlier in the year,he's a decent fighter,came into it as a late replacement and surprised me a couple of times,KO'd Brandon Adams in the final

So FW agreed and confirmed terms with Soros promoter but due to an internal dispute the fight is off. So yet again a fight announced which was not actually signed.

Can Thompson beat smith then ? Nothing on his record stands out except he got ko'd in 2 early last year. Actually fancied Soro to win so this may work out better for Smith and FW

They did the deal with Arum for the fight, he signed, Warren signed and Smith signed, obviously that was taken as the fight being agreed so they announced it. Appears that Arum never bothered to see if Soro was happy with the deal, which he wasn't. It's a contractual issue between Top Rank and Soro, if he won his contract would have been automatically extended and with Haymon likely sniffing around he didn't want that and some sort of dispute was going on between the two. That was rumoured last night and Thompson has been brought in today, so they sorted it out quickly.

I'll be honest I've never hear of John Thompson in my life. Beefy won't get a better chance to win a world title than against a guy with 6 KO's and no 12 round experience.

Not as good as the Soro fight HOWEVER Thompson isn't the worse guy Smith could have fought down the belt. He looked pretty good in the Boxcino stuff and was touted as being one to watch prior to the loss to Galarza. Been on TV in the states often enough to get a read on him if you've never seen him.
