With that title, I was certain that you were going to finish off the rest of the sentence implied by your thread title with "...when we might actually find out after all this time if LSC is any fvcking good or not".
I am disappoint.

Good point. It has been a loooong time coming. LSC hasn't faced anyone near Mares' level. Meanwhile, Mares has faced superior boxers and punchers than he will see in LSC tonight. The question is if LSC brings a high enough combination of boxing skills, punching volume and size to overwhelm or squeeze by Mares?
I have Mares squeaking it out on the power of a KD or two.

Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
In fairness we've had a lot of quality fights recently, sadly however they've been missed by far too many fans. Bouts like Kaneko Vs Nakamura, Higa Vs Kongfah, Huck Vs Glowacki, Yamamoto Vs Kawaguchi II were all brilliant fights and yet, barring the Huck fight, they had a tiny audience.Tanzio wrote:Finally, a nearly can't miss quality action fight.

Last nights fight with Rossy was action packed as well.
If you want to get in the mood for tonight's fights I suggest you watch Nakamura/Kaneko, it will serve as a brilliant warm up
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
Mares. Going with the proven p4p level fighter. No shame in losing early to JG and hadn't it been for that loss i'd certainly have Mares among the top 15p4p in boxing.

Thank you. Good point and suggestions. The card on YouTube live right now (Usyk) has been good.Boxing Prospect wrote:In fairness we've had a lot of quality fights recently, sadly however they've been missed by far too many fans. Yeah I'm waiting to see the big man myself. Loving how many cards have been stream for free recently. Well done to the promoters. Just a shame yesterday's stuff from Tijuana was...well "custom'd"
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
Been over thinking this fight today. At this moment I am questioning Mares ability to deal with LSC's size and volume. Abner has to make Leo respect his pop or it will be a long night for the smaller fighter.

Going with Leo here, think Mares is still..."mentally" done from the Gonzalez fight

I said on the thread in the British Forum, pre-Gonzo Mares wins this at a canter, imo (depending on just how big LSC looks next to him in the ring, obviously). The post-Gonzo Mares I've seen?
No chance. But then again, I am forced to hedge my bets, 'cos no-one fvcking fights anyone once they've reached a certain level. It's once-a-year marquee "event" between "names" or it's cannon fodder. Today's matchmaking caution makes for better brain cells (probably) but a fvcking murky, almost impenetrable boxing landscape. I just can't tell how much Mares has left.
OTOH, Hugo Ruiz vs Julio Ceja looks better & better the more I think about it. I can't call that one, either. I saw the weigh-in pictures & I thought "Jesus Christ I'm now old enough to be the father of a Mexican bantamweight", which is a distressing revelation for a Saturday night, I tell you.
Anyway. Two really good (on-paper) matches, each with the potential to hideously disappoint or enthral as spectacles. But the only money I'd lay is on the Ruiz vs Ceja fight to be the fight of the night...
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
boy i am pumped for this one
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
I'm hoping Ruiz v Ceja is as good as you are thinking it could be and that LSC v Mares surpasses it.Datsue wrote:Tanzio wrote:Been over thinking this fight today. Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
Ruiz was hurt but seeing as he landed on the ropes at the stoppage he probably earned a count for his efforts earlier
Actually just watching the replay maybe ref was right

Great fight. Ceja was down hard in the third. Ruiz could not finish. Ceja walked down Ruiz taking fire and catches Ruiz with a picture perfect left hook then finishes beautifully.
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
Yeah, I think the ref got it right. Ruiz simply did not go after the finish hard enough in the third.handsofstone wrote:Ruiz was hurt but seeing as he landed on the ropes at the stoppage he probably earned a count for his efforts earlier

I love Ceja's calm, menacing ring awareness
Re: Mares v LSC - The Day Has Finally Arrived
They both put each other down with a left hook but Ceja was the better finisher by applying non-stop pressure.Tanzio wrote:Great fight. Ceja was down hard in the third. Ruiz could not finish.
