Taylor will be out of action for at least 3 months but might be able to spare in 6 weeks

BRENDON SMITH CALLS ON WBU TO OVERTURN ASKEW VS TAYLOR DECISION.
Following Darren Askew's controversial loss to Anthony Taylor Brendon Smith has demanded action from the WBU.

DARREN ASKEW SHOULD BE THE WBU WORLD CHAMPION. Those are the sentiments of trainer/manager Brendon Smith. Smith has called on the WBU to deliver justice and the belt to Darren Askew.

"To say Darren was hard done by in New Zealand is an understatement," Smith said.

"For the integrity of the WBU - this is a decision that needs to be overturned.

"A full investigation into the performance of the referee Dennis Enright on Saturday night needs to be undertaken.

"I have spoken to the WBU this morning and requested for a full investigation into Saturday night's World title bout between Darren Askew and Anthony Taylor.

"I made an initial complaint with the WBU supervisor straight after the fight and I was told it would take at least one month for the video footage to be available.

"Well that's not good enough.

"I have requested the WBU either overturns the decision or orders a re-match within 90 days.

"If they rule in favour of a re-match I will promote it here in Toowoomba on October 31 on our Smithy & TGW bring the big fight's 11 card.

"Saturday night was an injustice.

"Not only to Darren Askew but also to the integrity of the WBU.

"I'm confident when they review the fight they will see why Darren Askew should be the World champion - not Anthony Taylor," Smith said.

Sounds like a rematch might be the best way to resolve things.

Did my own mini Investigation
WBU Seems to be happy with the result
However they have accept that there should be a rematch
however in the mean time while Anthony Taylor Heals up
Askew can go for the Interim WBU Title anytime between now and end of this year
and if Taylor doesn't defend his title against Askew in 2016 then the title will be stripped
however there is still time to change minds

Personally looking at the footage which isnt the best video that was release by Askew team I can see that right before the referee stepped in
Askew received heavy blows to the heads and was not protecting himself even though he was throwing back but it seems the punches he was throwing back were slowly lowerly down and more tapping then punching

but thats a personal opinion and it is hard to see with this video

as for the knock downs they were all caused by body shots and not heads shows thats why it was lead to continue
The referee ask if Taylor wanted to continue which Taylor said yes everytime

Smith might buy Interim scenario 'cos he'll want Askew on upcoming local show, but no doubt he'll want Taylor's contract that he will defend in Toowoomba's first 2016 show & not leave it to WBU

Where can I find the footage released by Askew's team?

Edit: I found it. Not the highest quality and shot from far away, but Askew was obviously in big trouble and seemed to go limp momentarily. He was still fighting back, hadn't been in trouble that long, and wouldn't have been the first fighter to survive a moment like that had he done so, but I don't think it was a horrible stoppage based on the admittedly low quality video. It also seemed to me like Askew's glove touched down and hence a KD should've been called, which would've given him time to recover, but the referee let the fight continue.

Talking to the officials of the night the ref said the eyes was rolling to back of his head

(Which I dont entirly believe but I wasnt in the ring so I cant say otherwise but the body language doesnt suggest that yet keyword yet)

the judges say his arms were slowly lowering before referee stepped in which it was but still throwing punches but definitely not defending himself

Askew was trying to go for the KO and won every round so he could of boxed smartly and just dance around the ring

:TU:
IMO, stoppage was warranted. Askew should've jumped on his skateboard I got himself out of immediate situation.
Hopefully, in rematch he'll settle for points win & not KO

I might add, if I was title supervisor, I wouldn't buy into ordered rematch 'cos Askew simply stuffed-up

Askew granted rematch and interim world title fight

TOOWOOMBA boxer Darren Askew will look to turn the growing bitterness over his ill-fated world title fight in New Zealand last month into a positive as he sets about avenging the loss.

Askew and his supporters, including trainer Brendon Smith, were left gob smacked by a decision to deny the Englishman the vacant WBU world super lightweight title against Kiwi Anthony Taylor in their 12-round Tauranga battle.

Askew knocked his opponent down five times during the bout before the referee stopped the fight in the final round to award it to Taylor on a tko decision.

Smith immediately protested against the fight outcome and demanded the WBU declare the bout a no-contest or have a rematch rescheduled within 90 days.

Askew this week had a partial victory in his bid for justice when he was granted a fight by the WBU for the interim title left open by Taylor's unavailability through injury.

Taylor is still recovering from broken ribs suffered in the Askew fight.

Askew's interim title bout against a yet-to-be-named opponent will be staged at Rumours International on October 31 as part of Smithy Brings The Big Fights 11 show.

If Askew can win the interim belt he is guaranteed an immediate rematch with Taylor when the New Zealander is able to return to the ring.

"We have been able to get Darren his wish and we are thankful for the WBU for the decision it's made," Smith said.

"We believe they've made the right call and it's a great outcome for Darren

"He deserves this rematch, but for now we are fully focussed on his interim fight next month which will see another world title bout staged in Toowoomba.

"Darren pulled up so well and healthy from the fight he will be ready come October 31.

"His opponent will hopefully be finalised within the next 10 days."

Askew has remained gracious in dealing with the decision which shattered his world title dreams.

But the result aftermath has left the hungry Cumbrian eager to right the "wrong".

"I've actually started to feel bitter about it," Askew said yesterday.

"But I'll deal with that by coming here (Smithy's Gym) and using it to help fuel the fire."

"MAKING IT OFFICIAL
After some consideration i have made the decision to retire from professional boxing. I have been fighting competitively for 18 years as a boxer and now is the time for a new adventure. I've got injuries that aren't getting any better, worse if anything and the risk reward ratio aint too good now. Over the years i've met some amazing people and had fantastic support from my family and friends.
It has been awesome representing Cumbria across the UK, Canada, Denamrk, Australia and New Zealand.
A massive thanks to Joe Stewart (RIP), Norman Edgar, Joe Dryden, John Rice, Ian Foster, Martin Sewell, Tim Savage, Barry Acton, Joe Pennington, Dave Murray, Tony Farrell and Brendon Smith...
Big shout out to John Gilbert, Tony Marshal, Kimmo Baldwin, Matthew Comerford and David Nilsson..
All good things come to an end but as one door closes another door opens! I hold my head high and im proud of myself for what i've done..
Thanks again"
