Tyson was definitely one of the best proponents of the uppercut, he had that left hook to the body followed by the uppercut to the head which was deadly.

What was unusual, was that he was almost always shorter than his opponent, so he had to drive the uppercut right through past his own shoulder often to land on the target - that's not something I've seen many fighters do, and shows how powerful he was physically. Though there were many flaws in Tyson's game, his explosiveness really was something to behold in his brief prime.

How about little Eubank's uppercuts vs Saunders---I'm not sure if I've seen someone consistently miss by a larger distance!
seen any Froch fights?

it's great to see heavies with one punch ko power.

they are a dying breed in this muscle-bound age of tatooed tanks

Charr has suffered two nasty big ko's of late...not sure if its worth doing any more.

Yeah thats right, maybe the fact that Tyson's uppercut had to travel at a longer distance to reach the target made sure he got more monentum on to the shot

Very tricky though, as you have to continue generating power when the elbow is level with the shoulder which is pretty bloody hard. Not only was he a lot shorter than most of his opponents, but he fought out of a crouch too. Never checked but maybe he pushed off with his legs too.

I don't know who the best guy was throwing an uppercut, but Ken Norton certainly got caught from some huge ones , against Cooney, Shavers and Foreman

I am sure I watched him smash a few people up in a overseas prizefighter format a few years ago on Eurosport. He has heavy hands, is an ex-kickboxer, and is a cruiser.

I thought there was good technique to the uppercut. His feet looked planted and it came right through the middle and landed on the button.
It worked well there but if you were going to be throwing them all the time like that you would get caught. He drops his arm too low and generates the force through swinging his arm, rather than generating it by dipping at the knees and transferring the power from the floor up and rotating his body at the hips in to the punch......in my opinion.

Azumah Nelson v Pat Cowdell.

Left hand uppercut. Literally perfect technique and placement.

Take a look.

Breidis is a really small heavyweight in modern terms, so this came as a bit of a shock. I'd suggest that Povetkin has well and truly shattered Charr's chin.... unlucky for him as his durabillity would have kept him as a lower level gatekeeper for years to come. I expect to see him in britain soon enough if the trend continues.

:OhYes:

Glad to see Charr getting KO'd, he's a mouthy arrogant prick who isn't the fighter that he thinks he is. His conduct at the end of his fight with Vitali Klitschko was disgraceful and realistically there was no point acting disgusted when he didn't actually do anything leading up to the stoppage he was getting thoroughly outpunched and outboxed at every turn.

Well I think his conduct was better than Vitali's conduct at the end of some of his, and his brother's fights.

Regardless, I hope Charr fully recovers from the shooting.
